The yard staff at this place are not only incompetent but have a serious attitude problem, especially the guy with the bleached hair, he is due a good smack. I will say the yard guy with long kind of wild hair was very friendly but on my 2 occasions here I never dealt with him directly, he spoke to me more than the guys that were actually helping me. It should be open on Saturday or Sunday. Even for half a day would help! Used to be a big customer but am no longer due to it being closed on weekends. Maybe since Herc bought out San Mateo Rentals they no longer care about homeowner rentals and propane fills and only cater to contractors. read more

Great service, helped me even when I didn't know the correct name of the tool I was looking for.

We rented out a 3ft deep Ditch Witch for ground squirrel fencing and worked with Charlie. All the service over the phone and in person was great. We had to troubleshoot multiple times with extending the reservation due to getting sick and also with my truck not being large enough for transport. Throughout the entire time, Charlie was very supportive and understanding. He made the rental of machine really smooth and stress free. read more

Equipment is well maintained, yard staff very helpful and professional. Billing practices are very questionable. Final invoice is always 25-30% more than quoted. Always an "oops ". Will not use again if I can help it. In my line of work, I need to know what my "real" cost is going to be. read more

I've been going here, when it was San Mateo Rentals, for propane bottle refills for years. Never an issue. Now it is Herc Rentals, and they have instituted a "5 gallon minimum" for propane. Why? I have a 1 gallon tank. Do you think I'm going to pay 5x$4.50 or $22 for 1 gallon of propane? There is no reasonable business justification for this other than greed, because you can't actually put 5 gallons into the typical "5 gallon" tank (due to needed room for vapor). But what their "policy" did manage to do is have them lose a customer for life, and get them a bad review. I went down the street and filled the bottle for $4 at Uhaul. read more

My Contractor rented a piece of equipment from Herc Rentals in San Mateo for my job, he left a cash deposit, once we returned the tool on time I went there with my contractor to return and pay for the rental with my credit card. I walked in and spoke English stating I need to return equipment and pay with my credit card to the man behind counter. He immediately responded in Spanish to me. I don't speak Spanish I'm not even Latin. There was a woman behind counter who got involved and tried to help my contractor and I and as I reexplained everything again, she rolled her eyes and shook her head at me in disgust. Everyone at the counter was incompetent, rude and in my eyes racist. They all had a very disrespectful attitude especially when I gave them my credit card to pay they rudely asked for other forms of ID, which I understand why, but there's no reason for rudeness, rolling eyes, shaking head and looks of disgust coming from all 3 employees behind counter.
