Good breakfast. We eat at Herby's every year while camping in the state park. Loaded hash browns, pancakes.

I haven't been to Chet's for a long time. It is located on a small lake near Miltona, MN and it is…read morePOPULAR! We tried going on a Saturday night and it was packed. We decided to come back about 4:30 on Sunday, thinking it would be less busy. It was not! We were seated towards the back of the restaurant and could view the lake from our seat. Pretty cool. Our waiter was a nice guy and I ordered a Summit Pale Ale to start us off. No draft beer, OK. What do you want from a small lakeside restaurant in a small town? The place does seat quite a few people and the first thing you notice when you walk in is the well-stocked salad bar and bar off to the side. They are known for their broasted chicken, but I ordered 2 walleye fillets, and it came with a trip to the salad bar and I got a side of some of my favorite things ever, but you rarely find, fried chicken gizzards. I disregarded the salad and stocked my plate with tons of chopped olives and mushrooms and all the goodies. They had cold salads and chicken noodle soup that all came with my trip. It was AWESOME! The chicken gizzards came out first and were perfect! Not too much batter and nice and hot. Tater tots came with my meal as well. I mean come on. Who doesn't love tater-tots? I rarely get them, but they were delectable. The fillets were good size and a dip in tarter sauce and a squeeze of lemon made for some perfect fish. Unfortunately, I was STUFFED from my accouterments and could only have a few bites of my fish. It made for a great lunch the next day and heated up well in the microwave. Great place for a family dinner and good people all around!

This place was a little worse than expected for a dive. It's super dark inside and very dated. Our…read moreserver was super aggressive--coming up roughly 5 minutes after we sat and standing there until we ordered (and not really interacting at all with us other than taking our orders). After that, they vanished until they brought the check. Also important to note--They only take cash or check at this place. We started with the salad bar, which was really basic, but not terrible. My insider tip is to get the chocolate mousse and save it for dessert. It's really good! Our appetizer was onion rings and they were surprisingly good! Hot and not too heavily breaded. I got the chicken tenders and baked potato for my main. Chicken tenders were subpar and had almost no flavor. The baked potato was hardly even warm. Wouldn't recommend either of those!

It's a little hard to spot because the sign doesn't stand out and it's tucked between buildings. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. I love the idea the owner has about bringing fresh locally farmed ingredients to the menu. The menu is simple and it was perfect for lunch. We tried the tomato basil soup, smoked turkey sandwich and chicken salad sandwich. Everything tasted so good! Just a heads up, they aren't huge sandwiches but it was plenty for me.

We were traveling and our anniversary was while we were in Alexandria. We wanted something special, and a french dinner seemed cool. But wait. They had a "chef's table" as well. Not an everyday thing, and not inexpensive, but - a chef's table in Alexandria Minnesota? We were totally there. A five course meal, wines accompanying, and it was totally delightful. We often blog our travels, and we wrote pages about this meal. Kudos to Matthew and Amber!

There are a lot of things with walleye in them and I had the walleye tacos which weren't amazing, but we're definitely passable. We love the fries! People ate some fun burgers. First off we waited for 15 minutes before someone even came to our table. In the meantime a few of us went up to the bar and ordered our own drinks. When the server finally did come, i ordered another beer along with a water, neither of which I ever got. The girls at the table who got soda water in their drinks couldn't even drink them because the water smelled like sewage!! We put in our food order, along with appetizers and specifically asked for them to come out ahead of our dinner. Never happened. They came out after our other food came out. In the meantime I had to go back to the bar to get my own drink...AGAIN. Our server seemed very new and was obviously struggling, while several other servers looked on. The food..less than a 1 for a rating. I had the fish tacos and they fish was basically burnt, low budget fish sticks. Not one person enjoyed the experience there and I can't warn you enough to avoid this place at all costs!! Also, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting!

The service of all the bartenders and wait staff was above and beyond 5 stars! I was seated where I could watch kitchen and I observed the 1 and only cook handle food without gloves (FDA recommends avoiding bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods) and boasted chicken is considered just that. There was a very bare simple menu so I ordered a cheeseburger and chips and he got the white chicken. I literally saw cook put the chicken in basket bare-handed and let my husband know that while he brought our order to window and I watch waitress bring over. My cheeseburger was well over-done as was the grilling of the bun which I ate some due to not having eaten and didn't want to wait longer, but the chicken was so overcooked that you could barely use fork to peel away a bite on the breast. When he finally got a bite, it was so dry that even dipping in ranch didn't help. The outside was very dark considered to other places we've gotten chicken from. Now, I was very impressed with the service compared to prior years at watermelon days, but the food was much better. I did see staff going back to try to help, so bonus stars for that. My husband did talk to owner who was very understanding and seems to really care about her bar and restaurant, and had 2 breasts remade but they ended up to be the same way unfortunately. Maybe for bigger crowds, have more people in kitchen the whole time so food is not overcooked for which should be discounted some to customers that do receive it that way. Next year we will eat at cafe or drive to Battle Lake before street dance.

The new owners are very friendly and my husband spoke favorably of the changes inside. (He picked up the order.) Said it would be a really nice place to watch a game, etc. As to the food. The chicken was very moist and hot, but for us it was disappointing as to taste. A little bland for us. We kind of felt the same way about the potatoes. The coleslaw was fine but nothing special. Chicken places are a dime a dozen in the area and there are others that we prefer. But I could also see why this option would be preferable to some people. We still intend to try the place again and try some other things on the menu and perhaps watch a game.
