I went to Herbert's Meat Market 3/7/2020. I have been shopping at that market over 40 years and this is the first time I ever had a problem with a purchase. I purchased 3 rib eye steaks, brought them directly home and immediately put them in zip lock bags and put them in the freezer. On March 21 I wanted to cook one of the steaks. I proceeded to open the bag to let it thaw and it had a very bad odor, so I checked the other two steaks and they had the same odor. I immediately called Herbert's to let them know what happened, I didn't want my money back, because maybe they just received a bad shipment. I wanted them to exchange them. The manager Rob told me I should season the meat before I put it in the freezer. I told him I have NEVER heard of that in my 60 years. I told him I would bring the meat to his store Monday morning. When I arrived he refused to see me, and had one of his workers point out a sign that stated returns must happen within 24 hours. So after being a customer for 40 years, they made me feel like an idiot, and I will NEVER shop there again. The police stated this is a civil matter, and I will now file a lawsuit. So to all the poor people in Hempstead, be sure to check your meat before you leave that store. Check it for the smell and for maggots because you never know when you go to feed your family if it will be edible. I would have accepted an exchange, but the owner standing next to his worker would not even converse with me. I am reporting this to the Health Department, and I will go to Civil Court. DO NOT TRUST HERBERT'S MEAT MARKET!!! Eat safely! With all these viruses going around you have to be careful about your food. This review is being posted for Roger D. read more
