The state and DA unfortunately work in a corrupt fashion, unlawfully and unfairly, using the innocent lives of civilians for profit. In my family's case, a close relative was in need of mental help, having gone through trauma they wouldn't speak of to the family. We didn't know what to do or who to turn to. When we reached out to the mobile crisis program (a state therapy program), for help, we didn't get anywhere, let alone resolve the issue. The Mobile Crisis policy is as follows: they visit your home 3x, in hopes of speaking with the person in need, and whether the person is home or not, they close the case after fulfilling 3 tries. They put it on record that they've attempted to help. If you ask us, that was little to no help. Visiting the person's home and realizing they are not home or will not speak to them, and counting it as "trying," doesn't do much. They then advise you that the next time the individual acts out, to call 9-1-1. So what did we do, never having dealt with the police? We called 9-1-1, in hopes of getting some help or therapy. Little did we know, the police can press charges even if the family does not. So we got ourselves into a terrible, messy, and extremely costly case. We had our relative charged for things we didn't want to press charges for. To make matters worse, they handcuffed this person to the hospital bed because they were in "police custody," adding more trauma to an already traumatic experience . This put a strain on our family, making things extremely hard- emotionally, mentally, and financially for us all. Luckily, Robert Tsigler eased the tension and worked quickly to get our relative out of police custody. He represented them to hurry along this tragic case, brought on by the wonderful system we live in. A terrible system it is! The office communicates everything and keeps you in the loop, while the DA and state officials fail to let you know what is going on, dragging out the case. Thanks to Robert Tsigler and his incredible team of lawyers, we are now all doing okay, and our relative has gotten the proper care. The case has been dropped. It took approximately 11-12 days for the firm to file its appearance, and nearly three weeks before I had a meaningful conversation with the initially assigned attorney, John Fink. During that time, communication was limited and there was little sense of urgency. In late February, after I raised concerns about communication and the handling of my case, Mr. Fink stated that "we will be withdrawing as your counsel" while my case remained unresolved and an active warrant was still outstanding. I raised these concerns because of the firm's reputation and expected the issue to be addressed by management. Instead, I was reassigned to Scott Migden and told the matter would be handled quickly. However, over the following weeks, I did not observe meaningful progress. No motions were filed, and I was repeatedly told the firm was "waiting to hear back from the prosecutor," with no clear advancement in my case. When I requested updates, I was often directed to phone calls instead of receiving written responses, and those calls consistently provided the same information without new developments. When I reviewed the billing statement, a significant portion of the charges appeared to be for communication, internal discussions, and administrative tasks rather than substantive legal work. I was also told there was essentially no case file beyond what I had provided, yet the billing reflected work on a "case file," which I found inconsistent. I also later learned that the original attorney remained listed as my attorney of record in the New Jersey court system as of April, which added to my concern about who was actively handling my case during that time. After all of this, I was informed that continued representation would require an additional $6,500. I had no issue paying additional fees if meaningful work had been performed, but based on the billing and lack of progress, I did not feel further fees were justified. After I indicated I intended to leave an honest review, I received a response from Joseph Caldarera stating that the firm would respond through legal or professional channels if necessary, which I found concerning. Based on my experience, I was dissatisfied with the communication, billing practices, and overall handling of my case, and I am pursuing fee arbitration and an ethics complaint in New Jersey.

We had an extremely negative experience at Zimmet Law. We worked with the lawyer Debra Hammerman,…read moreas well as Monique Gravely and Jacqueline Constante. We used Zimmet Law to purchase our home in Brooklyn, NY. Besides being generally hard to get in contact with the lawyers, 12 hours before our closing, the lawyers sent us a final Closing Disclosure with over $100,000 in mistakes that they did not catch. There was a mistake in our taxes that they did not catch. The title company they hired also made significant mistakes, leading to them giving us documents with huge mistakes in them 12 hours before the closing. Our lawyer, Debra Hammerman, did not come to our closing and was not present for most it, so we had to sort out all of these issues on our own. There were even more mistakes she didn't catch, and it led to an extremely stressful closing that lasted well over 8 hours. Her employee Monique was rude to me for asking more clarifying questions during the closing, saying we were "going in circles". I don't understand how someone who has made a $100,000 mistake could possibly feel justified in thinking that victim of that mistake might want more validation on other numbers they have created. Furthermore, the paralegal Jackie was looped into conversations for closing details about a week before the closing. I spent 3 days straight emailing her and calling her to try to get answers to questions about the closing, like how the money would be transferred, and she never responded. I confirmed with the front desk that she was not sick or on vacation, and our lawyer Debra Hammerman was also cc'ed on those emails and neither of them ever responded to our emails or calls. I have no idea why they waited until 9:30 PM to give us the final closing documents, when our closing was at 10 am the next day. It was a nightmare. Finally, Debra Hammerman herself provided a POA since one of our purchasers would be out of town at the closing. Despite us filling out the POA as per her instructions, it turned out she hadn't requested addresses of notarized signature witnesses which led to us desperately trying to contact our witnesses during this extremely chaotic closing to get their addresses. Why didn't she request addresses in the POA itself? Pure incompetence is my bet. Finally, the lawyer, paralegal, and all of the staff from Zimmet Law completely forgot to bring up holding money in escrow from incomplete punch list items. It fell by the wayside as we attempted to hammer out all the other mistakes the law firm has made, and it meant that no money was held in escrow as requested while we awaited final punchlist items to be addressed. This was a totally terrible experience for us and I would never recommend this law firm to anyone.

Prior to this, the landlord or the agent suggested I should hide my underaged child from the occupant list so they don't need to put up ugly window shields on their nice-looking apartment. I refused to do so and they ceased the lease. Mr. Brian Zimmet: 1) 10 min late for the call without explanation, 2) said neither the landlord nor the agent had done anything wrong, 3) I brought to him I think the agent has broken the code of ethics in several ways and the landlord's decision violates NYC tenant law by refusing to rent to a family with a child; he said he's not familiar with the code ethics (despite him being the real estate lawyer) and asked me to call the police if feel discriminated (what a nice person), 4) refused to help me with filing a complaint on the landlord or the agent, asking me to find a long island lawyer (the property is in Queens but nevertheless he should have a license covering NY state). Throughout the whole process, he is impatient and rude and ended the call in 10 min despite his assistant booked for 30 min. And the fact that he called the action of the agent/landlord "nothing wrong, nothing illegal" seems weird to me. Will not do business with them anymore.
