From the signage and design I assumed that this might not necessarily be the kind of jewellers for me, but then that was somewhat of a flip judgement. On closer inspection there was plenty there to entice me inside for a quick browse! Cleverly, they had a lot of the second hand deals on display on the outside window. Loads of vintage-looking rings with beautiful stones, all for between £50 and £100, stared out at me temptingly. Most especially pleasing were the garnets, but then that's my personal taste! Along to the other window display I went and saw a lot of items that were perhaps a little more contemporary, sovereign rings and large hoops etc, which although reasonably priced were of less interest to me. Inside they had their more high end collections, displays of some really lovely contemporary items by Fiorelli, Silverline, Fluid and more. They had those ever popular charm pieces too, which don't really pique my interest, but I know a lot of people who buy into them. Interestingly enough, I spotted some 'dog-tag' necklaces for £47, which I thought bizarre and there was also a large range of watches, clocks and timepieces on display too. All in all, a pretty all inclusive range of jewellery, with truly something for everyone! Not bad.

Well aren't I in for a treat. It stands out from some of the other high street jewellers as the window display is kept so clean the diamonds are extra sparkly. All the designs are classical and elegant, I have difficulty finding something I don't like. I know I am here just to browse, I am pretty sure the sales assistant knows this to but bless him he treats me like he would a paying customer. I don't feel like I have to walk out of the shop when I notice a ring that costs more than my house and can just stare in awe for a while. When that lottery win comes in I will be back to actually buy something. In the meantime this is just one of my places to look but at least you aren't made to feel uncomfortable for doing so.

This is not an aesthetic that would appeal to everyone, in fact it probably only appeals to a minority of people for whom gold 'bling' has a particular appeal - whether genuine or ironic - or possibly to some Travellers, for whom St. Christopher is the Patron Saint. I happen to love its brashness and I think it adds character to the range of shops on offer in the market and helps to ensure that Leeds Market appeals to as many different cultures, tastes and people as possible.

They also buy scrap jewellery so you could trade an unworn piece in to begin saving for one of their impressive necklaces or rings. When I popped in for a browse I saw some rather cutesy-looking cartoonish flower studs and figured they would probably be the cheapest thing in the shop, upon enquiring about the price (the helpful and friendly young woman assistant had to act as translator for the elderly male proprietor), the earrings were weighed and I was informed they were £140. Now I'm sure this reflects their value gold-wise (as they were 22 carat gold) but they just didn't have the look quality and beauty that I think expensive jewellery ought to have and can't quite imagine why someone would by these over a similar pair on the high street for probably a twentieth of the price! However, there are many pretty pieces in there that do own their price tag, with elaborate necklaces and earrings that look to be of very high quality and carefully designed. If you're looking for jewellery with an Asian aesthetic or just something different from the traditional British jewelers in the city centre you may find something special at Rajput Jewelers, but you must be prepared to pay the price for the quality.

I am allowed to love more than one jewellery store, it is not cheating. They always have beautiful and inspiring second hand vintage jewellery on display in their window, often at discounted or competitive rates. Usually there are ring boards which cover all the precious stones - rubies, sapphires, opals, emeralds, diamonds, garnets, amethysts and so on. Those alone are enough to make me stare for ages! As well as this there are a number of chains, necklaces, pendents, cuff links, watches, ornaments and all other associated items - many more of which you can view inside, with lovely patient staff to help you. Excellent stock, great staff, lovely prices and all that jazz.

They have a glass cabinet full of vintage ornaments, many including their original boxes and mostly animals. One memorable piece was a Humpty-Dumpty sat precariously on a wall with a comically aghast expression! Some larger ornaments sit on shelves at the back including some quirky dogs with bizarre yet lovable faces. The shop is small but packed full of glistening goodies to suit a wide range of tastes. The staff are friendly and helpful but are more than happy to let you browse at your leisure. Their product range is diverse and in addition to the items listed earlier, they generally seem to specialize in anything that's unusual with a bit of history, including medals, trays and pocket watches. A wonderful place to find unique items if, like me, you go for things with character and delight in the fact that a piece has been pre-loved in a mysterious past life.

My favourite items are usually antique/vintage but generally, if it shines I'm interested. This shop, however, was a bit of a disappointment. I had a bit of a gaze at the window, almost at this point becoming disaffected, and so decided to venture in hoping for more interesting bits. There was no one there but the door let off this almighty buzz as I entered and then again as the door slammed shut. At this point a lady came rushing in and offered an obligatory "Hello, yes, how are you?" I told her I was fine, and really only having a browse. At this point she sighed and I went to look at their brooches. After a few seconds I heard this tapping - she was standing there, literally drumming her fingers on the counter as I browsed. I did not appreciate that, and began to feel uncomfortable - like I was some kind of unwanted burden. At this point I turned to leave, trying to avoid her awkward stare, and nearly tripped over a huge cardboard box that was next to the counter. I thanked her and left - there was only one brooch I liked anyway and none of them had visible prices. All in all, a bit of a let down, and I don't think I'll be back.

My experience wasn't that bad - I wouldn't say I was welcomed with open arms but I didn't feel the immediate urge to leave. The jewellery here is, well, pretty average. Like Rowena I'm into vintage or antique jewellery but generally like anything with a bit of character and unusual or interesting design. The jewellery at Oakwood consists mainly of gold and silver chains and a variety of rings, which were ok but none really caught my eye. There was a very pretty pearl necklace in t he window, and a few broaches that looked promising but on closer inspection I didn't really feel that there was anything very special. They also sell a selection of watches and a large range of clocks of the sort you'd imagine sat on a mantelpiece, many with glass domes and brass detailing. If you like quite traditional, unassuming jewellery or clocks and watches of a classic, understated design then you may well find something here to suit your taste but if you're looking for an unusual piece that will stand out you may be disappointed.

I know a lot of…read morepeople may not find it romantic to go shopping for the ring together, but if you are spending money on jewelry, you want to make sure that it is something the other person wants AND that it is quality. Having worked in jewelry while I was in high school and college, I like to think that I can at least see when I am being ripped off. I actually found this store online while searching for 'jewelry stores in Manchester'. The store is in Leeds and the other branches of the store, also not in Manchester. However, I am glad I looked and glad that Mr. Snarky was up for a trip to Leeds. If you call the number at the bottom of the website it goes to their head office and they can provide you with the number of the store you wish to contact. I didn't realize there were multiple locations. And if you are shopping online, I don't believe they include which location a particular item is at. While I realize it might be a security issue, driving an hour and a half (traffic was a bit of a nightmare) to Leeds to hear a staff member say, "Not sure if that one is here at this store" made my heart sink. If you are looking for a particular item, you may want to call ahead to make sure you end up at the right store. This location is in the Crossgate Shopping Centre with a couple of car parks available. From the outside, I saw that they do a bit more than jewelry... like pawnbroking, cheque cashing, etc. The store is small, but it is very nice inside. Mr. Snarky suggested we have a look at the window display and see if there were any rings I liked the look of that weren't on the website. After having a look, we buzzed to be let in and were warmly greeted. We did have to go back out in order to show them what rings we were interested in looking at and I did have to pull up a picture of the ring I was interested in so they could locate it. Fortunately the other staff member recognized it as soon as she saw it and said that she had seen it just the other day! Phew! I got to try them on and the lady told me more about each of the rings... the one I was very interested in was a previously owned ring, but was specially made... meaning it is one of a kind!!!! That's what I was looking for as I don't want the ring everyone else has. They offered free ring sizing, but were unsure of when it would be ready because of the holidays and offered to call me in a day when the man who does repairs and ring sizings would be in. First thing on Monday morning, I had a call and my ring will be ready this week! The two staff members have been so helpful and friendly and really made the process quite easy. They also asked what I was looking for and what the budget was and were able to provide some other options to look at... because every girl enjoys trying on rings! While I know they want to sell jewelry, they seemed genuinely excited about the ring I chose over the others because of its uniqueness. I am excited to go back and pick up the ring and we are even considering getting our wedding bands there!

At very nearly four months after several emails & calls telling me it wont be much longer, I receive an email out of the blue telling me they've refunded my payment & will be cancelling the credit agreement. I cant remember a time when I've been treated so badly by a company. The watch I ordered is still freely available in reputable retailers not buying from the "Grey market". This company should honour their agreements with customers, but don't feel the need to treat customers with the respect they deserve. I'd avoid this company like the plague in future, opting instead to purchase from a reputable source. Disgraceful to say the least!
