I found a real neat Bison necklace carved out of pipestone for $15. I wanted the larger chain and the lady changed it for me. There were pipestone pipe displays and other neat things on the walls. There was an artist station at the front of the store, but he would be there on saturday. Since the visitor center was closed at Pipestone monument, the lady gave me a brochure. Hope Bison beat the Jackrabbits today. I'll wear my lucky pendant.

I came from the shop in Pipestone National Monument seeking more things to buy and admire. It's the…read moresister shop from the one in the NPS visitor center, and it was staffed by an amazing gentleman. He is a pipestone craftsman and quarries his own pipestone and does all the carving too. He said that his workshop in the NPS center is the one with the bison skull and answered a bunch of questions that I had. He was very patient and I learned a lot. He also has a workshop area in the front by the windows where he does work on carving the pipestone, but he was manning the cash register today due to someone calling out sick. The shop itself sells a bunch of pipestone crafts, and unlike the NPS shop does have pipes for sale. There are black pipestone pipes (from Canada and carved here) for sale as well in addition to the red pipestone that is mined locally. There are also magnets, jewelry and more. You can easily find gifts for everyone.
