This is not just any park...here is a little history: In the early 1940's, several Troy residents began clearing the river and the banks of rubbish in hopes of using the area for water activates. They even cleared away the remains of an old wooden damn located just north of the Adams St. Bridge. Then, Edward Alvah (E. A.) and William Hobart took an interest in the park and provided the heavy equipment needed to assist in the process of clearing. That's right...E.A and William Hobart of the Hobart Brothers Corporation. The Hobart Corporation used to be based in Troy, Ohio. Yes, that's right...the ones that created and made Kitchenaid for the home and for commercial use...and they are still made today (just not here). Let us not forget the welders, generators and industrial equipment as well to name a few. They weren't always made in a foreign country. Indeed, Hobart was alive and well in Troy, Ohio and the surrounding area once upon a time. The Corporation put quite the thumbprint on Troy, this is one of them. The leaders of the Hobart Brothers Corporation wanted to provide a location for not only boating enthusiasts, but also for their employees to enjoy the Great Miami River and all activities related to water. So, they constructed a marina, a boathouse, and a launch area with a lighthouse all from the profits of the company. At one time there was a baseball diamond located here and playground equipment as well. The place boomed with boating activities, festivals and company picnics for many years. My grandparents and parents used to speak of the fun times here. In the 1960's, E.A. Hobart gave the boathouse and property to the city of Troy as a gift. Troy accepted and decided it had great recreational potential. It has been utilized in many ways over the years. It has even seen days of non-use and dilapidation as well sadly. Some of my fondest memories growing up were playing out on the island after crossing a bridge...and we always fed the ducks. I used to love to ride my bike down that steep hill coming in and lift my legs & feet off the peddles. We used to rent canoes and paddle boats below...sweet memories. But what was once old, is new again. It brings me tears of joy to see this place come alive again and alive it is indeed. This place not only has its own website now, but it has a Facebook page too! There is a fairly new restaurant in the building called "Smith's Boathouse". The Smith family has a history of their own. I went to school with one of the brothers and was able to enjoy the family restaurant in Maui (Yummy). It is a great addition to the Park. And if you get a chance, please check it out. But not only that, there is now an area for concerts in addition to the typical walks, playing, biking, picnicking or just hanging out and enjoying the view. There is quite the venue these days at Treasure Island. It makes me smile that it is alive again. Although people call it "new", please don't forget the history, how it started, why it's here and how it has evolved. When in Troy...stop down...a water activity may interest you, a stroll, a bike ride...or maybe just the view. It is a cute artsy exhibit full of little treasures to exam at your own pace! We took about 15 or so minutes to look it all over. They have printed brochures of the exhibit (the Highlight Tour) and flowers. There was even a fun scavenger hunt to do. So many different rocks make this up. We were glad to have found this hidden treasure. T

It's so awesome! The kids love it and even adults have fun!! I do have to say there isn't much for the real little kids. It's just got one little train with a small slide and for some reason my daughter just isn't into it. But by next spring she'll be big enough for some other things and she'll be more entertained. This place also has swings, trucks to dig in a sand pit and some big slides and things to climb.

This 900-acre park is a great place for a hike, for a picnic or to just to hang out on a pleasant…read moreday. The park is comprised of a rather nice, small lake, a pond, a boardwalk, several wooded stretches and some farm land. I did not get a chance to go to the Visitor Center, but it looked quite nice. Horseback riding facilities are also available and there are some picnic pavilions that are rather nicely kept. I visited for the first time on a nice crisp early spring evening to take an hour hike. There are four trails of varying lengths. There is a short trail that just traverses the lake for about 3/4 mile. The remaining trail lengths are 1.5, 1.8 and 3.4 miles, respectively. I chose the 1.8-mile trail since I had a short time before park closing. The terrain, scenery and air were invigorating and certainly beat using a treadmill. I'll look forward to the chance to take the longest trail at some point in the future and perhaps also to visit the Visitor Center. It's a great place to collect one's thoughts.

Well-marked, easy to follow trails, and such a peaceful, scenic walk along the creek!! We were lucky enough to catch the early spring blanket of GORGEOUS yellow flowers that covered so much of the ground on both sides of the path. Although this park is not far at all from "civilization," and borders on what appears to be a booming/never-ending development of suuupersized "mansions," you do still feel like you're "getting away from it all" while here at the reserve. There are two entrances, neither of which have very much parking available, and we were lucky to find a spot on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Don't miss the nature center, (closed while we were there), the bee apiaries, and the bird rescue house at the smaller, less well-labelled entrance. Worth a visit!!!

The park provides an access point to one of the best bike-trail systems in the United States running all the way north to Troy and south to Dayton where it branches off to Xenia, Hamilton, and Cincinnati. The former town of Tadmor is located just a mile and a half down the trail. It is most gone except for the foundation stones of the old mill. You can see the remnant of the canal almost the entire way. The east side of the park, near the top of the dam, has a wooded, unpaved trail with a 4-5 mile hiking/trail running loop that has a great view of the river. Along the way there are some great rock outcroppings, and the opportunity to see deer, heron, woodpeckers, and the occasional eagle. Taylorsville is a great little gem of a park on the north side of Dayton.

Bike, fish, hike, picnic, take zillions of pictures, watch for deer and other "residents," and more!! Be sure to view the MASSIVE dam, it's impressive!! There are also bathrooms. The trails are well marked, but they really do not seem to match the map. That's my only complaint. But it's a small enough park that now that I've been there, I would know where to go next time. The gorge, the bridges, and the waterfall are all beautiful. There are several lookouts around the waterfall. It's all very picturesque and would be a great place for engagement or family photos. The river was also very clean and I was tempted to wade in to cool off.
