24/3/18 Very surprised by the Food Standards Agency rating of 3/5 (December 2016). However, the food and service was excellent. Group of 8 people and we chose to have the: Special Banquet (minimum for 4 ppl) - £29.00 per person Yuk Sung, Sesame Prawn Toast, Aromatic Duck with Pancakes, Honey Pepper King Prawns, Seabass with Thai Chilli Sauce & Basil, Cantonese Cripsy Chicken, Sizzling Beef Fillet Cantonese Style, Mixed Vegetables in Satay Sauce *Contains Nuts and Special Fried Rice The Yuk Sung was the best I had ever had before. The sesame Prawn Toast was not the normal flat piece of bread, but huge and filled with prawn. The king prawns were huge!!!! Vietnamese King Prawns (???) The chilli sauce that we had with the duck and pancakes was really hot, but nice. It was sizzling on my tongue. Highly recommend like every other reviewer. I can't wait to take the kids. read more

I don't even know where to start with this fabulous place!! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! From the moment I walked in and was greeted, I instantly fell in love with this place. There's a large reception area for meeting friends and having a drink at a large, exceptional bar, before being shown to your table. Enter the dining room! Wow, exceptional tables, laid out beautifully and the decor is astonishingly great! Everything about this place says...Swish! Most importantly the food...we began with a traditional crispy aromatic duck and pancakes. The duck was mouthwatering and plenty of it! For £18 it's pricey, but you could have shared between 4 people for a light starter. But between two of us was better, you wanted more and more constantly! Before the mains were served we had a little bowel with a very tiny cloth in, before warm water was poured in and it became a full hand cloth...swanky! The mains continued with the highest standard of Chinese food I have ever had. And surprisingly it's the first time I have actually used chop sticks throughout a meal before giving up and asking for a fork...I was so captured by the food that I didn't even consider putting the chop sticks down!! Now whilst this place is a more premium venue. You really do get what you pay for...exceptional service, delicious food and even a violinist playing a mix of songs the entire time - how she continued or knew that many I do not know!! read more

The first Chinese in Harborne, and far the best in the wider area. Sited in what was the Trustee Savings Bank, Sunday Times called it in the 1980s the best Chinese north of Watford. Henry Wong never seems to come here now - Marianne (front of house) and Ricky (manager and back room boss) look after the place extremely well. Henry Wong's food is excellent in range, quality and quantity and only a little on the costly side for that. The photo is the lion dancing at Lunar New Year 2008. This should have been a lovely experience for me my wife brother and partner. The service was pretty poor, the food was cold and some members of staff were quite rude and abrupt. We had a booking slot from 6 -8 pm, we waited 45 minutes for the main meal to arrive and then we ordered our sweet at 7.35 only to be asked to move off our table to the bar area to have our sweet, needless to say we paid £160 and left and will not return or recommend this establishment again. 4 very unhappy customers. read more

Went for a meal with a friend. When we arrived we were greeted very well and taken straight to our table. We were given ample time to look over the menu and then we ordered our starters, main course and a lovely bottle of sweet wine! Our starter was half a duck and it was absolutely delicious! I'm a big fan of sweet things, so the sweet wine went perfectly with every mouthful! Our glasses were topped up whenever it was needed so we didn't have to lift a finger! Our main course then came, we shared a bowl of rice. My meal came on a hot sizzling plate, the smell was mouth watering! The taste was very good. Hot and spicy, yet the right balance of flavours. We did not have a suite due to the amount of duck and main course that we had consumed! We were given a cleaning cloth that was a little dry block, but when some warm water was poured on it, it became a lovely big moist cloth! During the evening, we had a lady playing the violin. She continued to play a massive range of songs and came around to all of the tables ensuring that everybody was equally entertained! I cannot recommend this restaraunt enough! I have eaten at Henry Wong's for over 20 years. At the Hockley Resturant and Harborne the food as always been very good and still remains so. Henry Wong's has recently had a refit, and now has lovely large windows which give it a cafe feel - shame the view is only of the bingo hall across the road. There's more room, too, which is good, because this is a very popular place. One of the things that stands out at Henry Wong's is the service - which is polite and efficient and helpful. The other thing that stands out is the food - the menu has everything you would expect from a Chinese restaurant, and some surprises as well. The set meals are all excellent - tasty, interesting and well-balanced, with generous portions so that everyone has plenty to eat. There's no problem swapping out a particular dish if you have allergy issues, either. And all of the food that arrives is top quality - freshly made, hot and delicious. Whatever you order, you won't be disappointed. We make a point of visiting Henry Wong's whenever we're in Birmingham. read more

Henry Wongs is a Harborne treasure. I've eaten here several times and have always been impressed. The décor and atmosphere is very stylish and the menu extensive. This is a real treat restaurant if you like Chinese or Cantonese food. Service is refined, the staff are always watching ready to top up glasses or take orders but are never intrusive. You pay a little more for the experience but it's worth every penny. read more

Henry Wong is situated at the top of Harborne High Street, and offers really high quality Cantonese food in sedate surroundings. This isn't really the kind of place you'd book for a leaving 'do' or a works night out - more a kind of couple/close friends/come with the in-laws type of place. It feels very hushed, a little uncomfortable at times perhaps, and as such lacks a bit of atmosphere, but this is more than made up for by the quality of the food - a real treat. Right, what a lovely place to eat. While I always order my Chinese from somewhere else in the UK, when we choose eat at a Chinese Restaurant it would always be Henry Wong's. Great service, excellent range of food. Can be a bit pricy. Great atmosphere and has had live music the times that I have been there. Parking is limited due to the high street location. read more

I havent actually been inside this restaurant as i was on a busy errand elsewhere but it did catch my attention of how nicely presented the cutlerys and tables were prented which you could see from outside. The restuarant is also of a modern and stylish design. read more
