It was still early when we grabbed a table but it filled up fast. The friendly staff took our order and directed us to the serve yourself salad and bread. Both were quite good. My wife got the tomato based fish soup that was not only delicious but packed with large chunks of fish. I got the smoked salmon on rye with cream cheese, dill and red onion. A classic combo and quite good (and a good size portion). This was probably one of the best value meals we have had in our two plus weeks in Scandinavian. Highly recommended.

That is why I stepped into Buljong (broth in Swedish) in the middle of a hot summer day. I didn't find the attitude I am always looking for but boy did I find a kick ass soup kitchen! Amazingly Buljong is a small soup kitchen acting and operating and maintaining quality and standards usually seen in finer restaurants. Buljong is the smallest soup kitchen possible in fact I am pretty sure the owner who also works in the kitchen could just as well save on rent moving to and operating from a street food vendor truck. No worries he won't though: regardless of global warming we still have 8 months and shades of winter grey even in tha south of Sweden! The menu is simple; at least 4 and sometimes a few more weekly and seasonal changing soups. All containing organic and eco-friendly ingredients made with love and care (or how would you describe handpicked chanterelles!?) served with own made herb infused cottage cheese and nice slices of sourdough and some sort of olive mash I could for one happily live without! We had chunky and el dente asparagus soup nicely under the spell of dill and smoked salmon; a perfect dish. We also had the tomato soup with root veggies and spicy sausage which I will be consuming winter time as a new staple food from now on! A friend in the group also vouches for the chanterelle soup which in fact I tasted and liked a lot. But to be honest at the time my taste buds were heavily under the influence of a spicy sausage slice and in my mind I was imagining how wonderfully tasty a mixture of both soups could be.

When In Sweden, when in Lund and most importantly when in raw-fish abstinent the best place to get…read moreyou fixed is at Zen Sushi & Tea! This is where you want to go for the best as well as affordable & reliable SH#@ or fix! I'll only recommend two sushi joints in Lund! One appeals to the green and environmentally-correct personality of mine, needless to say aside from great taste, value and quality! The other, Zen Sushi & Tea is where I go to silence the cravings that might not be so attuned to the red fish list! Occasionally I can't help myself wanting to enjoy species such as tuna and prawns! Also I might add that the black & white design is charming as well as sober and suiting! Now to why this place is a (guilty) pleasure of mine; Nigiri pillows that will not fall apart, go ahead laugh but remember this is Sweden we do frequently mess up with the rice. The rice pillows are well-seasoned and in good sweet contra sour- harmony. Fresh fish slices that are cut perfectly thick or thin depending on whether your pleasure happens to be Sashimi or Nigiri! The usual Cali or salmon rolls are spot on, but they do offer Makis with twists and I do urge you to order such. I for one love the shake garlic roll that is made with garlic marinated salmon as well as spring onion which adds a great texture to the roll. Another roll to love, depending on how one might feel about Saffron, is the Golden Gate Roll. The ironic taste of the Saffron adds another dimension to the sweetness of prawns and avocado! I do also love the spicy tuna roll which get its zing from the Kimchi-mayo (chili & garlic) and especially when upgraded to the inferno version which is grilled and even hotter. If you, much like me, think highly of lemon, be sure to try the Lemon Suprise Roll where you get lemon marinated prawns as well as lemon zest, the fusion in between the citrus and nutishness from the sesame seeds is exciting! To be honest the biggest problem I have with Zen is the lack of tofu and leek in the ever so too zingy or chili-spicy Miso soup. I love Zens innovation abilities but one this one they gone a little too far. The saltiness together with the smokey flavor accompanied with this much chili doesn't add or improve the soup. It becomes ratter an unpleasant roller coaster ride on the taste buds! Also Zen offers only 3 hot dishes and they nowhere near the sushi served in terms of quality, authenticity and value. The Yakiniku beef neither is tender nor offers the required depth. Furthermore the reason behind added Kimchi-mayo to the dish is a mystery to me! I would also have liked Zen even more if the fish selection wasn't this limited and predictable. Nevertheless as long as you are at Zen to get help with your raw fish cravings you wont find many other words best to describe it than; bravo, bravo and bravo!

Food was phenomenal -- first time having Senegalese and I loved the seamless combination of spice flavorings. Sausage was delicious, almost melt-in-your-mouth, I liked it more than the wagyu meals I had in Japan last week! Really surprised by the brød, it was flaky and almost like a sugarless dessert (reminds of Chinese street pastries) -- I think texture-wise I prefer it to the ramen I had in Japan last week, which is saying a lot! 10/10, wholly rec! It's a buffet so you can have all you want, as supplies last! I ate all the chicken + sausage available, so Iesha had to make more . Ambience - 9/10 -- Cute store inside restaurant! Homely feel! Service - 9/10 -- Not all self-serve (prob for sanitary reasons), the entree dishes + sauces are served to you by the proprietor. Very friendly + responsive. Offered big chili sauce bowl. Offered hot water. Very considerate + knowledgeable about the foods! Main caveat is some of the items can run out (ie chicken + sausage) so you may have a wait while more is cooked. Quality - 9/10 -- Sausage was phenom. Chicken was delish! Great spice flavorings!! Really cooked with heart!! Some dishes (eg a rice one) I found waaay too salty, but as a buffet, you can try everything a bit + eat more of what you like! Value - 11/10 -- 105 kr (~$7) wow!! Overall - 11/10 !!!
