He loaded the car onto the truck and off we went to Rapid City. After a 3 hour drive, lots of suggestions regarding what we should see during our stay in the area, and some other funny stories, we arrived at the Nissan dealer, unloaded the car, and he insisted on dropping us at our hotel so we were safe. A few days later he called to ensure that our car was fixed, that there were no further issues during our trip, and of course inquired about the sights. Thank you Tony for helping to make our holiday a good one. I would highly recommend Tony's Custom and Repair Service.

In no time Tony was at our side with our decommissioned land boat on the back of his truck. The AAA rep had asked Tony to take us to a small town just west of us about 30 miles, to a GM dealership no less, thank the Grass Gods of South Dakota that it was Tony who picked us up. Tony informed us of the fact that the GM dealership doesn't actually carry windshields in stock, they have to order them, which can take upwards of 5 days. Tony recommended a friend of his in not so near Pierre, which was still within the AAA 100 mile tow range. Boy, Tony was right, the next morning we drove the one block to his friends auto glass shop, and had a new pheasant guard installed within 3 hours... Thank you Tony, you saved us a hell of a lot of time.

We limped our camper trailer to the off ramp and the dirt lot at the Clark gas station... to discover we had a busted leaf spring on our Jayco 22ft trailer. After a google search, found a number for the one local auto shop, Charley's. They had an on call number and Jordan answered. Very kind. Very helpful. Gave advice. Came up with a plan for the next morning, when they opened back up. Crawled our way to the KOA just down the street (and happens to be conveniently located across the road from the auto shop...!) Jordan and all staff were incredibly polite, helpful, affordable, and efficient in helping us solve our SOS camper break. We are so appreciative.

Following our manual instructions for adding oil, the warning light goes off, infotainment shows good level. We drive approx. 1 hour and warning lights come on "excessive" oil!!! It's Sunday, we are 300+ miles from Sioux Falls (nearest authorized Alfa Romeo mechanic). AAA will tow but, only 1 of the 3 of us will be allowed to ride in the tow truck! Unacceptable!! Against all recommendations, we drive an additional 140 miles before we are scared to go on. At the Vivian Eastbound Rest stop, a worker gives us info on Charley's Welding & Auto Repair and their mechanic, Jordan as well as King's Inn that is within walking distance of the repair shop. Jordan answered and said he'll be able to do the oil change on Monday at 9:30 am. Nick, from King's Inn was able to accomodate us for the night. Nick also suggested Henriksen Auto Body Towing 24/7 in Presho. Dave Henriksen, owner, assures us that he'll get someone to tow us asap. In no time at all, Don, tow truck driver, shows up, tows our car, with all 3 of us to Charley's. We were told to leave the car in the yard. We get there and Jordan is at the shop!! Unbelivable!! On a Sunday, on his day off!! On Monday, the car is ready before 10am. Jordan, Don, Dave, & Nick you guys are AMAZING!! We truly appreciate all of you!! Highly recommend 100%. These guys are experts in their fields and their hearts are pure gold!!

If Mel opened a shop closer to where I live, it would be my go-to shop!…read more My girlfriend and I were driving through South Dakota on a road trip and right as we went down into Chamberlain to see the nice view of the Missouri river, a "low oil pressure, shut off engine immediately" warning displayed on my dashboard. I pulled over right away opened the hood to find my battery smoking and it smelled like rotten eggs (which is a sign the battery is in a terrible place). This happened later in the evening so we called a local tow service and they dropped it off at Mel's with us hoping he would be able to take a look the next day. This was day one of our week long trip and with a low oil pressue warning we were a bit worried about our situation. I arrived first thing in the morning at Mel's shop to speak with him about my car. I told him the situation and then Mel asked for the keys and went to work right away. There weren't many places to go around his shop (that I knew of) so I hung around while he looked at. After a few minutes he found that the oil pressure sensor was bad. He replaced that and then worked on replacing the battery as it was obviously not ok. When he finished replacing the battery we went for a drive on the highway to make sure the voltage and the oil pressure were fine. It is my understanding that in some cases where the battery has the characteristics as mine did in this case that the alternator could be overcharging it. The voltage and oil pressure were consistenly fine on our ten minute drive so it seemed the only problem was the battery had just met its time. The bill was very reasonable and we had no further problems the rest of the road trip. It was almost nice in some ways to have my car break down when it did so I was able to bring it here to save on repairs. Mel is plesant to talk to, seems like a smart guy, and helped us out in a pinch. As long as Mel is still in business, don't worry too much if your car happens to break down while passing through Chamberlain.
