The other is Dr. Johnson of Johnson Family Dentist in Solvang. Although my first visit was today, Dr. Johnson and his staff were friendly and professional. The bent over backwards to accommodate an emergency that almost interfered with me making my appointment. Having moved from the Long Beach area, it is comforting to find a great dentist in our area.

I had been referred to a dentist who was willing to do a root canal and recrown of one of my lower molars. I located them as they were the only ones within a 200 mile radius that took my insurance. My regular dentist, Dr Smith, at Feather Dentistry in San Luis Obispo, California, was not willing to do the work. But she had recommended me to someone who would, based on her assessment that I had a need for a new crown and a root canal. I arrived at the dental office and was attended to buy a Dr Johnson. He saw what was required, based on what he read from my referral dentist Dr Smith, and suggested we do the root canal and the crown that very day. I accepted. During the process of the root canal and the crown, Dr Johnson complained frequently that the entire process was quite difficult and seemed to have a problem getting at a point where he was satisfied with the work. I was very roughly treated, although not remarking so because I had no idea if this was normal or not. After quite a heavy physical struggle, he completed the process of both a root canal, and a crown. The final half an hour was done by his dental assistant, whose name I do not have. She seemed like about 35 or 40 years old, Latina, and finished whatever was necessary to complete the medical process. After paying around $1,000 out of pocket as well as whatever was required through my insurance, I left. Within a couple of days I felt that there was something very uncomfortable about the tooth. On April 1, 2025, I went to my regular dentist, D. Smith and talked to my hygienist. I said that I was feeling that there was something uncomfortable about the tooth. So consulting with Dr Smith, my regular dentist, they proceeded to do an x-ray and visual inspection of the tooth. One was noticed that an adjacent tooth had been chipped. So my dentist filled that chip tooth. I asked her if this could have been a result of the actions of Dr Johnson. She said probably not. But of course she was not sure. At the same time, or at some later date, she let me know that in fact the subject tooth the one requiring the root canal and crown had been cracked. She said it in the long run, it would need to be removed, and replaced with either a bridge or an implant. She also suggested that I have a more detailed optical image taken of the injury. I was accidentally hit with a metal hot wheels car and it chipped my tooth. The worst part was, I was on a family vacation in the area. I did a yelp search and found this nearby office, which had incredible reviews and they squeezed me in 30 mins later. The results are amazing. You really can't even tell! Dr Morell and his staff were incredible. If I lived in the area, I would absolutely one of his patients.

I somehow made it to my age without ever needing an oral surgeon but finally needed an extraction…read more Dr. Merrell was the closest oral surgeon on my insurance plan. I wasn't excited about driving all the way from Paso Robles but called to talk about an appointment. I spoke to Susie and she was amazing, working with me on scheduling and on dealing with insurance. Staff is the first contact with health care providers and Susie made me feel like I'd made the right choice. This feeling was confirmed when I went to my appointment in Solvang. Susie greeted me at the front desk and a few minutes later I was in a room for treatment. Dr. Merrell arrived and I immediately felt at ease. He discussed the process and we also chatted for a few minutes about things unrelated to teeth. An extraction isn't high on my list of things to have done, but Dr. Merrell made is as pleasant as possible. I left with a list of prescriptions and specific instructions on post-extraction care. The next day, my phone rang with a Solvang number. I thought it would be Susie with a question about scheduling my next appointment, but it was Dr. Merrell himself following up on the appointment. He asked how I was feeling and whether I was taking the meds and following the procedures he recommended. It was really nice old-fashioned service. A couple of week later, I returned to have sutures removed and was in and out in a very short time feeling better. I have a little more work to be done and feel better knowing Dr. Merrell will be doing it with Susie's support in the front office.

I moved to the area and needed to find a new dentist. My neighbor gave me Dr. Van Dyck's name. She…read moresays he is really good. So I went to him. I got a wonderful feeling right away. His office staff is so friendly and put me at ease. Dr. Van Dyck is a good listener. I like how gentle he is while working in my mouth. He was very focused and Spoke to his assistant respectfully. I had a root canal and crown and it never hurt. I would highly recommend him.
