Well, the time finally came this Spring. Having reached my 37th week, I made the appointment and waddled to Anju's house. My visit was incredibly exciting, as Anju was a absolute pleasure to meet and incredibly talented. I had previously picked out a belly design from her website gallery and the fun began. As stated in previous reviews, her ability to freehand these amazing, intricate designs is most impressive. I had quite a soothing time sitting on her couch and letting her create this magnificent art on my swollen belly. Kudos for being able to keep a steady hand while my baby kicked about her canvas. After we were finished, Anju took some pictures for her website and kindly sent them my way afterwards. She didn't have to extend that courtesy, and again, I am very grateful as they turned out beautiful, as did her design. Fast forward to the next morning. As I am in the shower, scrapping off the paste I slept with overnight something unexpected happens. My water breaks. That afternoon my daughter arrives into this world, again quite unexpectedly and 3 weeks early. Even though I can't medically prove it, I give all the credit to Anju and her belly blessing. She gets my 100% recommendation and her artwork and this experience will always remain unforgettable in my life.

She had great recommendations for getting the final henna color to be as dark as possible, and it smelled like eucalyptus. She even gave me good advice (which I refused) about not doing my henna during my ladies' sangeet - I wish I had listened! Anju had to put up with me being incredibly cranky while putting henna on me during the party (i wanted to dance!!). She never made me feel bad about it- and I'm grateful. Weddings are a stressful time. I hear she does a lot of belly henna works for pregnant ladies. Sounds awesome to me! As good as it gets - Anju is the best in Austin for the henna arts :)

I've gotten henna done so many times, but I don't recall enjoying the experience of getting it…read more However, I will never forget getting my henna done by Surinder, the beautiful lady who runs All About Henna. It's with Surinder that I realized that the artist matters just as much as the art does. Surinder did such a WONDERFUL job of making my friend and I very comfortable at her place, patiently helped us find the ideal henna design, and shared everything about the process of henna, right from the start and till the end. I also want to note that Surinder makes her own home made NATURAL HENNA. I never realized how important it is to use natural henna versus store bought black henna until I saw the damaging effects of black henna online. (Google search it at your own risk). Besides the fact that Surinder's henna is all natural and safe, it smells amazing! I kept sniffing my hand as the smell lingered for a close to a day. When you're getting your henna done for your special occasion, it really matters who does it for you. I would definitely recommend Surinder and her artistic skills any day.

Yelp had some crazy directions where it wanted me to make a left and the location would be on my right. The location; a lake!! After a long failed attempt to find, All About Henna, I called Surinder and let me tell you, she is fabulous! Surinder, was just getting off work and she told me she would stay on the line with me and help me find her place, even though I had not made a previous appointment. When I arrived, very late, Surinder offered me water and made me feel at ease, she is quite charming and very hospitable. Not only is she detailed with the after care of your henna, the henna, Surinder used is fresh, never store bought and all-natural; it smells devine! (Think of a honey & sugar scrub) I was so pleased with Surinder's art, that I dubbed her, 'The Desi Pablo Picasso' ! If you've never gotten a henna, or are contemplating getting one, go to Surinder! If you are not sure about getting a beautiful and temporary art piece on your dermis, yet you love Indian culture, get a candle! I'm genuinely shaking with anger as I write this. Yesterday afternoon I went in to get my eyebrows…read morecleaned up. I walked in. They were polite. I was greeted like normal and asked to sit in a chair. The lady who I assumed was to do, my eyebrows came up to me, and I began to tell her what it was that I wanted done. She waved her hand at me motioning for me to put my head back on the headrest and I continued saying I just want them cleaned up little. Keep the same shape. She said nothing to me and immediately put her thread on my face. I sat back, didn't say anything and let her work. I knew what my eyebrows looked like before and how much needed to be taken off. So when I recognized that she was going higher and higher making my eyebrows thinner I asked her to stop to which she tried to tell me that it was fine and to let her keep going. It was clear she couldn't really understand me, which is frustrating. I have no prejudice against immigrants, but Jesus Christ if you're gonna work on someone's face at least understand what they're asking you to do. However, it was also clear that I was upset and not happy with the service. The owner came over who I recognized and has done my eyebrows every other time I've been in. She was extremely apologetic. She cleaned up my other eyebrow and then used me as an example for her employee. I did not sign up to be practiced on. Let me tell you that. I came in to have a licensed aesthetician thread my eyebrows. When I called back asking if I could get the name and license number of the woman , I was told that a license isn't required to thread eyebrows. That may be true, however, it told me that there is an employee working in a spa where facials massages shampoo conditions blowouts threading waxing are all performed, who is unlicensed. If you are training people at your salon who have less than 750 hours of training you need to let the client know. End of story. I now have 2 obviously different shapes on my face and am beyond embarrassed and enraged. Don't come here. It's not worth the inconsistency, it smells funny inside, it's outdated, everyone but the owner lacks in customer service skills and she's letting unlicensed people provide services.

The artists were pleasant and did such an amazing job on all who stood in line. Even with the line, they were able to work through it in a reasonable amount of time. I dunno how they were able to doodle without drawing a sketch beforehand... It was as if they were making it up on the spot and i had a front seat watching the magic happen. I don't think i was supposed to rub off the henna as early as i did (i saw someone else doing it so i did it). Apparently you're supposed to let it naturally fall off, not wash the area with soap or water for 24 hours, and apply thin layer of Vaseline to get the best results. Afshan has a very pleasant demeanor that put me at ease and she's very personable. She was patient while I looked through the binders for the design I wanted and yet it only took her about 5 mins to paint it on. My hand was under a fan for about 5-7 minutes to let the henna dry then she sprayed a lemon/sugar/water mixture on my hand to help the henna stick longer to get a nice dark stain and my hand went back under the fan for another few minutes. I love that she makes her own all natural paste. Although she is quick this does not diminish the quality of her work. She makes applying the intricate and elaborate designs seem so...simple. Don't let the lack of reviews deter you from booking with her as it ALMOST did me. I will definitely be back again and again to get my beautiful mehndi from her.
