Where do I start in writing a review for my favourite place?!
And I can't make it too good or everyone will come and it's already getting crowded....
It's an easy distance from town and plenty of parking (although as popularity grows, it's becoming more tricky and one has to be prepared for parking a couple of streets back, but compared to other parts of the world or even Australia, the parking is still really plentiful and easy).
I love how friendly this beach is, or rather the people who regularly frequent it. You can never be lonely at Henley Beach.
Some of my favourite moments are when the weather is extreme. The fierceness of winter when only the die-hard dog walkers are out in the embracing winds and rain. The waves are crashing and the swirling sand is abrasive. It's invigorating (or just plain madness at times).
In contrast, the still evenings after a very hot day are sublime. Many sun lovers have gone home and the beach rests. A collective sigh as all move and breathe as one. The beach, the people, the dogs and the birds, all as one. It is quite magical. Those nights can often see fire twirlers or guitar players adding to the atmosphere. For those of you who have seen my crazy dog running around, even she is calmed on these nights. Nature is a healer and an influencer.
On a lucky day a dolphin may join you or a pelican. Other days, just seagulls, but lovely all the same.
For fear of writing a tome, I'm not going to talk about shells, but suffice it to say, I've collected some beauties! Hours can go by when I'm in collecting and fossicking mode, usually to the exclusion of all around me and it's one of the most peaceful activities I can think of.
Henley Beach makes memories and also keeps memories. A truly magical and mystical place. read more
