So far it's one of our favorite spots in Hamburg for ice cream. We've tried a few neighborhood spots and some popular local chains, but we just keep coming back here. There are many reasons (or flavors) why we come back, but the main one for me is the sour cream mango! It's just perfect. And hard to describe really, other than sweet (not overly so) and flavorful. Many of their other flavors are excellent as well, especially the butter almond (wow!) we just recently tried. This small cafe doesn't seem to be as popular as many other ice cream shops, and there is a really popular one just about two blocks down, but I like it that way. Zeit für Eis!

Staff, although friendly, seemed really unprofessional and didn't really care that our food took FOREVER. We sat there for long extended periods with empty drinks and growling stomachs. Both our tartars (beef and Asian) were bland beyond compare. Lime mayo was nothing special at all. The worst part was when we got cold and moved inside and they were blasting the most cheesy, awful elevator music. I kid you not, Marvin Gaye covers for saxophone. I asked them repeatedly to turn it down but it was still louder than we could talk. I left extremely disappointed.

Unfortunately, I was very unimpressed by the quality of ice cream we had there yesterday. This location is fairly large with a couple seats outside. I found the inside to be a bit disorganized and kind of dirty. Staff was also a bit disorganized. Not necessarily unfriendly but not really helpful. Finally, the worst part is that I found the ice cream to be bland. I had two scoops and neither really tasted of what it was supposed to be. I've had significantly better ice cream in standard locations. It's a shame as I'd love to like a local chain but I probably won't be going back to any of the Eis Schmidt locations in Hamburg.

You pick your base ice cream and then some toppings and they mush it all together on a cold platter. They claim to have over 100 toppings to choose from, but it's kind of hard to see them all as they're on top of a shelf facing away from where the customers can see. The people working there are always friendly though and give suggestions of what they have fresh made (cheesecake, cookie dough, etc.) or what they suggest would be good with what you have already. Not cheap for an ice cream! For 2 ice creams you can expect to pay over 10 euros. But it's definitely the best in the area so I'll keep coming back!

We sat by a window table inside instead, which was actually as good as being outside but not as cold, and had the filet steak, and a (forgive my spelling) schnitzel. The food wasn't bad at all, the service was great, and the beer was nice too. So all in all, it's not bad!
