Been going here on and off for years, mostly off now, food quality,quantity down, prices up. All my orders were take out. I used to be a fan of beef chow fun, they stopped using fun and went to rehydrated wide rice noodles. Meat and seafood portions have been reduced in dishes. One time I ordered Chinese broccoli and beef, they used old tough Gai lon/Chinese broccoli it was awful and cost extra, they should not have served it. Another memorable dish I ordered was "cashew chicken" with no cashews at all in it. Will not be going back...... I ordered the combination plate, there was an option with orange chicken, I asked if I could swap orange for lemon, answer: sure but there is an upcharge. We'll, it was tasteless, the chow mein was only noodles with a small piece of cabbage , and soy sauce and the fried rice was nothing more than rice with soy sauce. I like the eggplant pork, big chunk of eggplant, not no small pieces and they ask if you want the Chinese bbq pork instead, it was something different. Something different good. The twice-cooked pork has a good flavor to it but next time maybe ask for more cabbage and throw in some whole pepper to give it more flavor. The wonton soup was ok kind of bland and the meat has a little sour taste to it that I didn't think it taste good. Mongolian beef was alright. We waited about 30mins. Take out. This WAS my favorite restaurant for Chinese food. Today I ordered hot and sour soup, beef chow mein and beef with mixed vegetables to go. Upon getting home with the food there was NO beef in the veg dish, just extremely mushy, over cooked vegetables floating in an unappealing clear 'sauce' and absolutely no seasonings whatsoever. The beef was almost non existent in the chow mein and the soup tasted like cinnamon, not a bit of spice at all. I will not be going back ever. I called the restaurant and they wouldn't refund for the one dish, telling me they have a note when we go back so they can give me a free redo. No thank you. The guy working there is a complete racist! I ordered from DoorDash and they wouldnt let my doordasher bring me my food because she didn't speak English. She notified me and I called to let them know it was ok for her to give me my food and he said he couldn't because she didn't speak English and it was a safety hazard? I asked him why that mattered? Simply put I would not recommend this place. I ordered my food and was told 20 min. I arrived at 30 min and it still wasn't ready; which is fine I understand stuff happens. The hostess, who was on her phone when I walked in, asked my name and what my order was. She then walked back to a booth and sat down. After another 10 min someone else came out and asked me what my order was, I reconfirmed it with her and let her know I also told the hostess. Aside from that lack of communication, there was no one in the restaurant. The phone was ringing and the hostess didn't care to pick it up. Another family walked in to sit down, and in the almost hour it took me to get my food, they had only received water. When my food was given to me, the price was higher than what is listed on line. I ordered the general's chicken and the first bite tasted funny, so I broke open a nugget and there was a single sliver of of chicken in the middle of a huge nugget. It is made to appear like a lot of check but it is smoke and mirrors with a ton of batter and a 2mm strip of meat. When I pointed it out to the chef he yelled at me and said "everyone eat it!" I tried Heng's cafe on a sunday night. I was again on my quest to find the best pho and sweeet and sour chicken in the yuba area. The place was tucked away in the corner of the shopping center, but the open sign was flashing. I took a seat in the corner of the store and ordered the pho for dine in and the sweet and sour chicken for take out. The broth was very good, slightly spicy hot, but flavorful. The noodles were fresh, and proper hoisin was provided along with hot sauce. The amount of meat was average, especially for $9.50 a bowl. I preferred the beef slices over the meatballs, but in total, it was a good dish. The sweet and sour chicken was very good. the chicken was not overly battered and the sauce was awesome. The service was slow for 1:00 pm. Only one guy working. We stood for ten minutes before we decided we to just seat ourselves. A lady came on duty at 1:45 pm. The chicken chowmein was dry no flavor. They said as we were leaving that most people love their chowmein dry. The chicken had funky taste. Sweet n sour was good. No ice in our water cups. They serve Pepsi in a can for $2.29 each. No one checked on us to see how we were doing. We had find someone to get us more water. To top it all off they forgot half our order. I love Heng's cafe and eat there regularly. In my opinion the food is wonderful! I have eaten there once a week for the last 6 weeks. Yes there is a new owner. Yes it is a bit different than before. After the pandemic there are not as many people dining in and as far as I can tell only two people operate the entire restaurant. The waitress is truly wonderful! She never makes a mistake and is very kind! She is on top of refills and works hard to please everyone. The owner / chef is a great cook! The egg drop soup is complex and the best I have ever tasted. The almond chicken is perfect and has a wonderful component of fresh vegetables. The pork fried rice is so flavorful. Just the right about of char and saltiness. The sweet and sour chicken/pork is great. The portion size is abundant but not glutinous. Every person or couple that has joined me has also enjoyed the food and expressed a desire to return. Give the restaurant a shot! For being a two person operation I think you will be very blessed!
