When Hendrick bought the hospital on the south side of town, they became the only game in town. Recently, I've had several procedures done here, and they've taken very good care of me. My mom is currently there and has been since Saturday the 10th with a traumatic brain injury! This hospital is absolutely awful! They have done 5 CT scans but haven't been able to find a neurologist to read them so we still have no idea how much damage was done! She started having seizures so they did an eeg over 48 hours ago and we still know nothing from those either! I asked to have her transferred and was told it would be against medical advice so her insurance would deny her! They refuse to help her! I have contacted the social worker, patient advocate and still NOTHING! My mom is literally declining by the day and they don't care and won't let us take us somewhere else! I spent a year working here as a contract nurse. The staff are friendly, and the hospital is clean and nice. Some areas are obviously older, but it's a well maintained hospital. I'll recommend anyone needing cardiac care to use this facility. Their Cath Lab staff and physicians are very good and extremely knowledgeable. read more

My husband went in thinking he had high blood pressure. Once he arrived his blood pressure was taken, it was normal. So what do they do? They trump up conditions that he has never had. Is this hospital that broke that they have to make up things so they can run bullcrap tests? They tried to say that my husband told them he was on anti-platelet therapy. He doesn't even know what a platelet is, let alone be on therapy for it. They also said that he was having acute chest pain. He told them multiple times he was in no pain had not had any chest pain especially that day. So why would they run just one troponin 1 test when it is a two-part test run 3 hours apart and my husband was only there for 1 hour and 5 minutes talk about clearly over billing and overdoing. Also ran a $330 prothrombin time with INR which is to test the platelet count. Because they had him as being on anti-platelet therapy that is the only reason they had to run this. Again he has not nor has he ever been on anti-platelet therapy. They gave him a chewable aspirin and sent him on his way telling him that the blood pressure machine at home was faulty you cannot trust them. Told him to stop taking gabapentin and metoprolol which he has never been on. But sent an order to Walmart for metoprolol. What kind of quacks are working at this piece of crap hospital I wouldn't send my worst enemy, let alone a loved one to this money sucking, diagnosis trumping, excuse for a hospital? A real hospital doesn't have to make up things. They tell you it's unnecessary to do anything more when you come in with normal blood pressure. If you are still concerned you should come back in an hour and have it rechecked. Maybe if they did like they were supposed to, people wouldn't die from not going to hospitals because of stupid crap like that. I don't​ understand how they can bill 8234.44 for an ER evaluation, yet they are incapable of doing a proper evaluation. My Father in law was experiencing shortness of breath and could not walk from the bed to the bathroom without huffing and puffing. We loaded him up and took him to Hendricks hospital in North Abilene. What a MISTAKE! he was shuffled into a holding room where he had ZERO attention from any of the staff. when I went to the desk about the machine monitoring his vitals was beeping. The nurse who was chatting on her phone finally looked up and told me that there was nothing they could do about his irregular heartbeat and he was fully oxygenated 100%. Dismissing me to go back to her chat conversation on her phone. Finally they administered some pain medication and told us they were releasing him to go home and for him to see his heart specialist the next day. Where in all of this is the CARE. I have been an ekg tech for 2 years in San Angelo. I finally got an interview at Hendricks when the position opened and they canceled it the day before I was supposed to interview. I have the PERFECT qualifications and have been waiting for that position to open. Hendricks couldn't even take the professional courtesy to continue with my interview. I've lived in Abilene my entire life and I just recently turned 18 in January and I cannot stress this enough but Hendricks is the shadiest and the worst hospital I have ever been to anywhere in Texas and outside of it these people treated me like a drug seeker even tho I was on a ventilator and i was technically dead for 3 days and when I woke up the amount of pain I was in being a 10 was an under statement the only way I can explain the pain I was going through and am still going through a week after being discharged is like giving birth too a soccer ball out of my butt but multiply it by 100 but the fact that I was in intense amount of pain starting from when I woke up and I still am struggling with it I can't even sleep at night because of the pain in my stomach but the fact they were treating me like someone that was tryna score drugs as soon as I was awake and technically alive again but the fact that they didn't want to help me feel any less discomfort n jus wanted to treat me like shi they had me restraint to a bed not able to move my arms or legs the doctor slammed my hands on to the metal railing and bruises my wrist super bad it was litterally like I was wearing a purple bracelet and when they tried putting an iv in my arm they messed up 22 different times they couldn't get it in my veins n i have good veins i have not once and i never will use iv drugs I didn't have track marks I had perfect arms but now because of hendricks staff my arms are covered in track marks and my veins hurt everywhere n ts is so sore n i hate needles with a passion so i sat as still as possible so they could get my ig in as fast as they could but the doctor couldn't get it in after sticking me 22 different times so they put of of those neck stitch things on instead and still messed it up 2 times before getting it right and when i got out of the icu and a nursing student was learning to do an iv on me and she saw how badly they messed up my veins n how they slammed my arm on the table n bruised my wrist this nursing student was able to find a vein on her fist attempt and didn't mess up n she got super mad and said wait right here im about to go bitch out these doctors cause I found your veins first try and Instead of the doctors giving me any pain meds they tried giving me Tylenol but I can't take that stuff it's not strong enough and everytime I would take it I would throw it back up but I over heard the doctor and her student my main doctor talking about how they gave me a placebo n jus gave me a shot of water n they were laughing about it n I over heard them saying how many times they have done that to patients that were in actual pain and I was screaming in agony im tslking To my lawyer tmr and I'm getting her to get the camera and audio from the cameras too prove that they were torturing Me I am going to get these doctors fired no good doctor says someone that's in agony is just trying to score drugs and then gives em a shot of water to prove that their faking and their still screaming in agony n then yu laugh at it while I'm in excruciating pain these people at this hospital are horrible people that deserve to be in prison any doctor that laughs at a patient for being in pain deserves to be right there with them in excruciating pain I'm going to make it my duty to make These doctors lose their jobs they deserve what's coming for them I got discharged sbiut a week ago and they didn't give me anything for the pain I still can't sleep at night because of the amount of pain in my stomach but still they could have given me something that would have lessened the pain these ppl at this hospital don't deserve this job they deserve to be in the ground along side the countless people they put there read more

Went to ER with chest pain and difficulty breathing. They did X-rays, told me to follow up with a PCP, which I didn't have at the time, and sent me home. They treated me like I was crazy and there was nothing wrong with me. Only after I got access to my online patient portal, I found out the X-rays showed both of my lungs had partially collapsed. Went for an outpatient CT scan of the abdomen without contrast. This hospitsl charged our insurance 5000 dollars for it. My part to pay is 2500 dollars. My recommendation is to use MD save and drive out of town to another hospital and pay 250 dollars cash and never get another bill. This is ridiculous! read more

took my wife to Hendrick Hospital North this morning. she had open heart surgery a few months back and was having serious stomach pain and had been throwing up bile for 14 straight hours. i checked her in and she was in the lobby throwing up non stop in a trash can. she was shaking violently and after 3 hours i asked the nurse, who said her name was Reina, what was going on. She told me my wife was not sick enough to be out in a bed. I asked her what would happen if my wife was to die in the lobby. She said thats on you, I'll Take her name off the list. Good luck. I asked for her name and she gave me just Reina, and then threatened to call security. I had to bring my wife home, she's been throwing up since we got home, and is in bad shape. I have no idea how I'm supposed to take care of her when the one hospital in Abilene. Refused to treat her. I called the hospital and they made excuses for all of it, there's no one at that hospital that will take any responsibility for how they treat patients. read more

Hands down the most disgusting hospital I've ever seen. I've been waiting and checking for a week for this bathroom to be cleaned. Still hasn't happened. It's on the seventh floor. That's the oncology floor, where people with compromised immune systems stay. The photos of the floors are from multiple locations, including the oncology ward, and they look like that all the time. The elevators always have trash in them, and as far as I can tell, the button panels are never cleaned. Guess where most germs come from. My dad contracted a pneumonia superbug while having a biopsy here. After seeing the procedure to replace the needle for the port in his chest (which connects to his heart and by the way he has stage four cancer) yesterday, I understand how it happened. The nurses used his food tray as their "sterile workspace" without wiping it down or removing half empty drink cups and leftover condiments. They didn't even put down a sterile disposable cloth. I regularly find discarded medical gloves and soiled bandages on his floor. Neither nurses nor housekeepers pick them up, and the nurses make no effort to get them into the trash can much less the biohazard disposal bin. I once saw a blood soiled medical glove that had been dropped in front of the biohazard room, and when I passed by two hours later, it was still there. Mind you, my dad just had major surgery, has two large open wounds, and his immune system is compromise by both cancer and the treatment for cancer. If you value your life or the life of your loved one, avoid this cesspit at all costs. read more

Came in to have some blood taken for some tests. Was promptly checked in and taken to the back waiting room where I proceeded to wait for over 90 minutes. The reason I know it was over 90 minutes was the lady next to me congratulated me on the time. Seems she had been waiting as long. Not sure of why it took so long, but there were people who came in after me that got in and out ahead of me. Once inside the actual procedure lasted about three or four minutes. For the amount of people working there you would think it would have been a relatively short wait, but no. Inexcusable! Also was surprised at the dirty floors in the lab area. read more

On July 18, 2022, my husband was experiencing chest and jaw pain. Since he has ongoing heart issues, our local clinic advised him to go to the ER (we chose not to have him transported by ambulance so I took him). We went to the ER at Hendrick North. We have NEVER had such a terrible ER experience at any other hospital. He got registered and checked in a little before 2:30 pm. They then took him back for an EKG. A while later they took him back for a Chest X-Ray, and then another half hour or so before they did blood work. We returned to the waiting area as instructed and waited -- and waited -- and waited some more. Finally about 8:20 pm my husband went back into the admitting area to check on progress (or lack thereof). He was sent to registration when the clerk asked for all his information and then said "OK, I've got you checked in now. Someone will call you soon." He told her that he had checked in almost 6 hours earlier. She looked confused, looked through the records, and then told him that they had him marked as "Discharged." He NEVER saw a doctor. How does any even halfway competent ER "discharge" a patient who was presenting with chest and jaw pain (with a current history of heart issues) without having him seen by a doctor? Perhaps even worse is that they "discharged" him without telling us. read more

They push patients out the door into nursing homes after MVC traumas rather than into rehab. They claim nursing homes are rehab facilities when in reality they are not, I'm in healthcare and have worked and cared for MVCs and other high level traumas and know the type of rehab required for recovery. So if your loved one is hospitalized there, pay attention when those finance people come by when admission first happens, they tell you that you have the right to refuse discharge but that is the only time you may hear that. They sure won't tell you when they are trying to push you out the door. read more

A very nice, friendly, and attentive group. I went in with an ear ache and was seen quickly. Doctor Wesley Hamilton came into the room where the nurse was taking my vitals. He didn't wait for me to go to the room. Dr Hamilton provided me immediately with a Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist and I was able to be seen right away. Went to the ER for what I considered to be serious problems. While the nurses were nice, the doctor who was assigned to look after me didn't do shit! He basically told me the pain and symptoms I was experiencing were 'in my head/just a feeling' and that I would have to wait to see a different doctor at a later time to see what was wrong. Took my daughter here for care in the ER and was throughly disappointed. Daughter had been barely eating or drinking for a week. Lost 10 pounds and couldn't eat or drink. Doctor looked at her skin, ran no tests, did absolutely nothing for us and sent us home. Refused to even give her fluids. Dr. Lyon something. Horrible experience. In one case, I flat-out already paid the bill, but they still fumbled it over to an agency (Lucky i kept my receipt) 2.) They were supposed to get back to me with a corrected bill .... but while i am waiting for the new bill ... yup -- they handed it over to a collection agency. - Keep all payment receipts! - Check Hendrick's math on your bills. This place is greedy and guilty of horrendous price gauging. My daughter visited the ER a few months ago and we were left with the most ridiculously expensive ER bill I've even seen for a simple visit. The total charges without insurance came to around $10,000. Even after insurance paid their portion, we were left with $2500. Others in our family have visited various ERs for the exact same issue and the total price without insurance was between $2000-$3000, NOT $10,000. The Trauma Center wait time at Hendricks Medical Center is a joke!! I was there over 3 hours and still had not been seen. I sat by an elderly couple, the man had COPD, having trouble breathing, shaking and very pale; after 4 hours they call him back for labs. Labs only!! At 5 hours, he's still there! Sad. I left after the 3 hours. I can suffer in severe pain in comfort at home in my recliner! You need more Physicians in the TC! I wish our insurance covered the Physicians in the ER at ARMC. Have never had to wait even 3 hours for treatment there. I will try the south side location of Hendricks next time. Ran unnecessary tests to rule out a heart attack and sent me packing with a gallstone (which they did not test for despite my insistence) and then released me billing for a doctor and a nurse practitioner to release me. SUMMARIZED VERSION: I had a STAT service referral from another provider. I went through the ER Trauma center. Waited over 2 hours. Someone finally looked in the system and realized the person that was to render the services had been waiting on me --THE ENTIRE TIME! ELABORATED VERSION: Waited over 2 hours for service over miscommunication with the staff. (I don't get sick often and I've never been to the ER dept of a hospital as an adult.) So, when I would try to ask what the protocol is because I'm new to this, I get interrupted and being told the person to see me is on their way. They are so used to people being confrontational and combative that they automatically assume I will be too, and I'm not. I'm just there to be informed. Had the staff listened to me and not interrupted, I would't be there as long as I did. I understand I will have to wait if there are other people being treated and they're short-staffed. I'm not expecting 'star' treatment, but to wait 2 hours as the person that was waiting on me the whole time...! I mean, after all, I was there for a STAT service. I want to thank Hendrick Hosp for offering family and friends of employees the Covid vaccine! My sweet neighbor knew I was having a hard time finding a shot. I am 70 yrs old and a stage 4 bone cancer survivor. She has a relative that works there. She sent me the info and I got on the list. I got my shot 2 days later! They gave me a date and time for the second shot. When we got there we parked up front walked right in Everyone was kind and considerate. It was fast and efficient. My father has been in Hendrick Medical Center for about 3 months, one complication after another. Overall, I think his care has been pretty good. Nothing is ever perfect. But there were a couple of issues that I cannot ignore. First, the whole campus is supposed to be tobacco-free. Signs everywhere indicate this. Yet, everytime I walked in or out of the hospital to visit my dad, I had to walk through a cloud of smoke because at least one and often several people were smoking. This was not only in the parking lot but on the sidewalk not even 50 yards from the entrance! This is not acceptable! Hendrick should not allow ANY smoking on campus. If the hospital administrators are going to allow such blatant violation, then they might as well take down the signs proudly declaring the campus as "tobacco-free." With second-hand smoke being so harmful, I prefer that they stop being so lenient with smokers. If EVERY staff member- not just security - would tactfully tell smokers that it is for the health of everyone that this is a regulation, and if security would reinforce this, then it would not take long for people to stop. But the hospital has got to stop turning a blind eye. Second, my dad has been moved into several different rooms during his stay. In the process of one of these moves, I witnessed an aide and two nurses coughing and sneezing without using the recommended precautions (not covering their mouths with their sleeves). One nurse said she felt so miserable that she should be home. I wanted to tell her that she should go home! Don't healthcare workers know that if they are sick, they should not be caring for patients? If the employee does not know enough to go home when he or she is sick, then it should fall on the manager/supervisor to tell the person to go home. It is ridiculous for them to be in the hospital infecting patients who already have health problems; they don't need the staff getting them sicker. Please, Hendrick, start providing a safer, healthier place for your patients and visitors! Pay attention to staff and visitors who are exposing others to germs and second-hand smoke. read more
