I wish all Dr's cared as much as Dr Hendler does. He takes time with all his patients. Very warm family atmosphere.

Not a Sun Dance (Dogs&Kids!)…read more Fair Disclosure - I am a Clinician, - Oncology at VM/ Main- Seattle became a de facto 2nd family, while working w/ Specialist's on both my parent's behalf over 2 decades and we still maintain contact. - The specific practitioner mentioned here- was thoughtful enough to sign her name to my father's End of Life plan, in addition to fitting me in on her load for said visit mentioned below. VM most recent experience and some history: - I was the first Patient in to see MD Sundance this AM. - She did not great me upon wheeling in her PC, she began talking about office set up to PA and about her dog. - When I did try to speak, she interrupted to bring up information she had- 15 y/o notes from some drop in visits (VM was not my provider) where apparently [a psychiatrist] was mentioned. I actually had dropped in Re a bed bug epidemic at work and I needed documentation on ongoing bites. - Only skin was mentioned by me in that old visit, Asia history came up along with duration of time dealing with condition- not sure, he may have asked if I had thought of seeing a Psychiatrist D/t health stress etc. Odd though, she only focused on that, not even the redundant bed bug's came up- then again, for unknown cases- Psych will always come up as a baseline. Odd as well, VM MD's are not able to utilize EPIC's broad charting software , or rather, if they want to take the time. - My father had just died, I had had recurrent welts on body and I prepped for visit b/c with me it always goes to another thing. I have had ongoing skin reactions w/o diagnosis for years since a toxic exposure while living in Asia- you never know when a result could point to a firm direction. - While not his PCP, I had heard good things about MD Rogers from Father and partially thought, 'hell this is a sign, one leaves to the next life and another finally makes a breakthrough'. "I am sorry, I am getting a call about my dog at vet"- Rogers' leaves after 5 minutes. - I begin to try to speak about undiagnosed skin history and it's relation to other medical history since Asia= "live with it"- MD Sundance. I said, 'this visit is pointless'- she agreed and left back to check up on dog, I walked to Dad's empty house. MD has a good rep, at best I could try to read her approach as 'tough love'- but I am a Crisis Worker, am aware of [tough] and residually no matter reputation- my only take away was a dog. Perhaps it was because I walked in in scrubs, I don't know and don't wish to look into MD psychology as I do that at work- but I will say, psychologically and after Dad, I was only left with anger and demoralization. ---- Prior VM experience to the above visit as brief backdrop: - As primary advocate for my father and after a 30 minute wait- I was not given any updates on my father after he was MIA for 2 days, let alone notice if he was alive (I live in Seattle). This was D/t VM not locating ROI on file, odd also how systems are not linked- I was practically working at VM/ Main Campus, regardless, VM BI also had one and I had dealt with them regularly. - *For the record, the 1st MD that got tied to MD Rogers in this case- appeared generally inept by memory. He had a hard time documenting multiple bites by picture and voiced nervousness 'to make any statement these [could be] bed bug bites'- it was after a year in the epidemic and L&I eventually became involved. It is really saying something that between both visits and 15 yrs- in both cases Patient reason for visit was never addressed, in fact, we have- 1 inept appt actually infecting another soon to be inept appt. - Prior to this, I had an appt with VM- Main/ Neurology Re same Asia condition. The MD could not make visit D/t a kid being sick from school- Telehealth brings up communication barriers for me, kept visit in lieu of prolonged reschedule wait. - I simply was not able to communicate and it wasn't from hearing his kid periodically in the background. [I have had progressive calcification to brain since a toxic exposure to face in SE Asia and for which has plagued me with multiple side effects in system.] - I was not able to even bring up Asia or ask questions Re typical/ atypical causes for calcification to brain, let alone relate personal symptomatology. He continually likened it to a typical familial condition for which I have not in family history (this is appropriate initially), but my case is different and non the less, we could not even have a discussion. - After, I researched what I already knew, that other things cause infections and combining this with how much input I was able to give- led "appt" to ending in 15 minutes. - There is nothing quite like looking at a placating MD, apparently frustrated, but being patient with the patient as 'they can be lost in this big ol' bad medical world'- for which, this very affect leads MD to missing what may be right underneath their eyes- because of dogma and lack of respect for said patient. They often don't have an X-ray tech available and even when you call to confirm they have an X-ray tech available that day, when you show up, it's a different story. The main scheduling office doesn't know who is available and even after asking to confirm there is someone at the clinic who can do an x-ray, you'll arrive and be told the hours are wrong and nobody is available. Yet, they won't update their own system. This has happened three times to my family. Complete waste of time.

But I'm glad things turned out the way they did, because for one, all the other doctors were female, and for another, Dr Tomberg is pretty awesome. I got scheduled in relatively quickly (I had to wait on the order of three months back with my PCP in the Bay Area), within about a month of when I called, and the wait for the doc wasn't too horrible either when physical day came around. Sociable and friendly doc who didn't seem to be rushing through patients, and took the time to answer the numerous questions I had. I also appreciated that he took extra steps to see if he could do anything about things like my occasional heartburn, and even humored me with my request to get weighed (being in a wheelchair, I haven't gotten weighed in about eight years, but he actually lifted me up onto a scale to weigh me - major points for doing that).

After looking and looking for some guidance I found the Yelp reviews of Dr. Tomberg and they have proved to be absolutely spot on. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.

She is totally professional and makes things simple. Tanya Spoon's staff are totally nice and once, when I went in with a hearing loss a couple of years to make an appointment, I was initially told it might be a week or two. However, another doctor in her office came out and took me right in In less than 15 minutes, my hearing was fully restored. I had a wax build-up, and he squirted some saline in there, and presto. I was ready to go. It is a hard-working team of doctors caring for their patients you do not get anywhere else. I've been so discouraged for years with the way my health has been managed. Reflecting back to the days that doctors were in medicine became they felt compelled to help you in all ways possible. Rather that currently where most don't even look you in the eye and their answer is to push drugs. None of them want you to get well anymore. None of them feel they need to keep you happy. They could care less. They get paid if you come or not. This clinic is everything medicine used to be and more. I was hesitant for years because I paid for health insurance. I can say 5 minutes into my meeting with them to discuss how the program worked I knew I needed to switch. The cost is so minimal compared to what they give to you. I've not regretted my choice and I tell everyone who is fed up with the system, actually I tell everyone how happy I am and that this clinic is worth thousands a month and they only charge 60 so man what a value! Thank you Tanya for the courage you had to see your vision through and provide our community with medical care that is world class.

I'm actually kinda shocked by the other reviews here. I moved to the island in 2012, when Dr…read more Crandell was just coming in so that Dr. Keyes could get him situated, knowing that he was going to be retiring. I moved here from Boston. I think it goes without saying that I had access to tremendously good hospitals and doctors in that area! However: the trade-off with large, prominent hospitals is that patient loads are often quite large. I had excellent doctors, but all of them had huge numbers of patients, and it could be difficult to schedule timely appointments unless in cases of emergency -- and even then, I would doubtless have been routed to the ER. My experience of this smaller, private, membership-based practice has been by contrast nothing short of miraculous, after growing used to those other limitations. Not only do the doctors in this office respond to my messages to them through the portal same-day, they'll come to my *home* if that's something I need. Yeah. That's right. *House calls.* As a person living alone, the possibility that I might be injured or get so sick that I can't safely drive is definitely real. In cases where my life is in danger an ambulance is the obvious choice, but ambulance trips are outrageous and ER costs are, too. Knowing that my doctor is reachable for emergencies outside of office hours, and willing to travel, gives me so much peace of mind. I've also only ever had the most pleasant experiences with the rest of the people working there, from the front desk to the nurses. I personally have never felt rushed through one of my appointments. Dr. Crandell keeps thorough notes about all of my visits, has had excellent referrals for me, is always willing to explore tests and approaches (he was the one who suggested I contact a naturopath to investigate a gene mutation I may have had that would affect my nutrition -- turns out I do have it)... Not only that, but when my (late 60s) mother came to take care of me after a surgery I had, and discovered entirely by chance that her high blood pressure had returned, this membership-only office agreed to see her and get her set up on medication that would ensure she was safe until she could go home a month later to her own doctor. Everyone's needs for health care are different so it may be that this office won't suit everyone, but when I saw the previous reviews I just had to weigh in with my own experience. I'm extremely happy with this office and grateful to have membership there. I would recommend it to anyone.
