The stylist cut my hair quickly while chatting politely about holidays and the weather, the standard topics covered in a hair salon. I was very pleased with the cut and blow dry and it was reasonably priced. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, the salon is clean and the décor simple and bright. Bad little Yelper. When I called for an appointment the only hairdressers available were £27 and £29 respectively... well still O.K I thought, so I went ahead and booked. Unfortunately when I arrived I was greeted with about as much enthusiasm as if I had just walked in and tried to sell double glazing. With an interior ecchoing a cross between Crystal Maze's 'Future' zone and a scene from Dallas, I was beginning to wonder what I'd let myself in for. The customer service did pick up as my hairdresser, Simon, was lovely and chatty and not too overbearing, but his technique was unfortunately not as good as his chit chat. I have quite a mane of hair and asked for layering and a swept side fringe, all of which he gave me, yet there was still that certain something missing. It just looks rather, well... f... l... a... t... Which is a shame and perhaps acceptable at £21, but you really hope for more for £29 cut. In more professional salons, they've also attempted more elaborate blowdrying for a similar price, but here it was similar to what I can manage by washing it with Fairy Liquid on a camping trip and letting dry in the Northerly winds. If I'd have asked for a Kate Bush maybe I'd have liked it. But I didn't. They seemed to stock most Kérastase products, but unfortunatley none were recommended to me so I left empty handed. Perhaps Jam Hair would be fine if you do manage to book a £21 hairdresser and just need a trim, but on the whole, this salon didn't leave the greatest of impressions.

On getting home and reviewing my haircut I discovered that several pieces were much longer than others and overall it was very uneven. A few pieces were literally an inch longer than others giving me a completely ridiculous look, would never go back here despite very nice interior and friendly staff.

My husband couldn't even tell I had it done! Also, my hair felt dry and damaged after the treatment. In this case I booked in for a waxing treatment, it was the first time I'd been to Bliss and I was apprehensive about it. Waxing can go terribly wrong in so many ways and often there's the embarrassment factor. My therapist was very warm and friendly and chatty but not too chatty. Bliss salons use the Australian Bodycare waxing system and it was this, along with the therapist's expertise that prove to be a revelation. I've had waxes in very many salons over the years and even frequented a very fancy place in West London that claims to be favoured by celebrities and I have to say that the wax I had at Baby Bliss was one of the best, quickest and least painful I ever had, not to mention good value for money. The salon and treatment rooms themselves are small and are showing some definite signs of wear and tear so this would not be the Bliss branch to choose for a luxurious and relaxing treat but as a local salon for your regular beauty maintenance you couldn't hope for much better.

I think winter and laziness were the biggest catalysts in the process, having not actually paid any attention to my prickly props for sometime, so I was long overdue a visit. I telephoned to check out the times and such and booked myself an appointment. On the day I came along and was greeted nicely by my beautician, Kirsty, who wasn't in the slightest bit phased when I said, "OK, so I've never had a wax before!" I went through and she talked me through the basics, I got myself sorted and we did a test strip to check it was all good. It was totally fine! In no time at all she was waxing away, whilst we chatted (she was, as Carol C mentions, friendly but not over the top) and in no time I was finished. Of course, it stung a little, but it was by no means a harrowing experience. The salon itself is fairly small and dinky, but very welcoming, as all the staff I encountered were lovely. I was so impressed at the speed of the service I braved a bikini wax then and there, which had a lot more sting to it (I don't believe was anything to with the salon, more my pain tolerance levels!), but the whole process was swift and over in no more than 10 minutes. It was really good of them to fit that in too, as I'd only booked for a leg wax. As a reward for having spent over £30 I got to pick a small gift for myself, which is always lovely, so am now the happy owner of a delightful jar of nail varnish. I also have a loyalty card, so I plan to reap the rewards of that, in time. Essentially, if you want friendly swift service, and a great wax, this is the place to visit.
