Unfortunately friendliness and people skills don't seem to be prerequisites for staff, so that aspect of the organization has been sort of a hit and miss for years. However another (more recent) negative move is the organization's decision to become political by changing it's mission statement - jumping on board the pandering train. This was clearly unnecessary, as the original mission statement was perfect. And to be fair, the first sentence of the new mission statement would have been fine all by itself. But apparently someone with an agenda to push has been successful in at least partially derailing the trajectory of the organization. I hope they fix that.

We volunteered here a couple of weeks ago. As volunteer staff in the evening dinner service it was…read moreheart breaking and humbling to help out. Those in need truly benefited from the chance for a warm meal of merit + a few minutes of Christian guidance. My daughters and I served plates, bussed tables, and I serviced the water for the dining room. They carry on entirely with NO government support. It is all funded with donations of food and materials which they sell at their thrift shops. They claim 86% of all revenue pass through to the actual rescue mission. That is exceptionally efficient! With their operation they generate an average of 500 meals a day. This translates into 3500 meals a week... or about 15,000 / 30 day month.... or an IMPRESSIVE 180,000 meals a year! Families are served separate from single men, and the men are divided into a safer and not so safe group. Children and young people volunteer and the staff watches over them carefully. Contact or interaction with volunteers and those they serve is well managed and seems safe enough. By the same token those whom my daughters and I served were cordial and grateful with thanks and smiles. I am truly humbled by their plight and am looking to help in more ways then just volunteer hours. I encourage one and all to go volunteer. It will help you find thankfulness for where-ever you are in life ... and your time and efforts will help those in need in meaningful ways. The organization also runs facilities which provide a safe place to sleep. They have rules for those sleeping in their facilities so it is sheltering and permanent continuous residency. Curious and logical. Oh well - there it is .... do some good for others ... maybe do so good for some in our region who have great need for basic survival. I give 4 stars because it can always get better. I have seen amazing work done by other organizations for those in need (in comparison).

Is toxic and creates a toxic and hostile work environment for the poor employees there.While volunteering there I observed a "policy " be implemented by Jan H. that won't allow the homeless clients to use the restroom while there receiving services because she also uses that bathroom. The poor case workers can't even let their clients go pee with out fear of some sort of retaliation or reprimand for a inhumane and prejudiced policy.

Food Share is such an important resource and lifeline to Ventura County! The staff at the…read moredistribution center truly care about their mission, and it definitely shows through their actions. At a former job of mine, Food Share allowed the educational non-profit organization I worked for to shop weekly for fresh produce to distribute directly to elementary school students and families served in need, many of whom struggled with food insecurity. This partnership was vital, and very much appreciated by all because it helped improve food access throughout our community at wellness fairs and nutrition classes. Thank you for your hard work! I will never forget about the huge difference Food Share continues to make in countless lives throughout Ventura County, and the value they place on equity.

I'm not sure what cloud this man dropped from but his genuine kindness and support/enthusiasm in helping others succeed, whether through means of Goodwill or otherwise, literally brought me to tears our first phone call. I've unfortunately run into people who aren't kind at all in social service programs so it was a pleasant surprise to meet Micah in a time where people aren't always so patient or kind. When I called Micah back a week or so later and just gave my name, it really touched me that he actually remembered everything we talked about our first call and he asked about how it was all going and again let me know that if I needed anything further that I was encouraged to call back. When people are down and just looking for a help to get them along on their career paths, a kind and caring person like Micah can make ALL the difference. I think Goodwill is very blessed to have such a person on their team.
