Today was our very first visit at Helotes pediatrics. Dr Gideon is an AMAZING physician. She was patient, calm, clear, understanding, kind and LISTENED. Want to know what she didn't do? She didn't dismiss my concerns, she didn't make extra requests into a hassle, didn't cause an inconvenience for requests and she didn't seem partial to us for being new to her practice. She was great! I was a bit nervous about this being our first appointment (9 and 12 year old that I transferred from another pedi office due to them just being plain difficult for simple requests). It by far exceeded my expectations and I am so glad my friends recommended her. I would 10/10 recommend. read more

You see a Nurse Practitioner not a Doctor which is ok in some cases but not others. The staff are not confident especially with outdated equipment and not exactly cooperative patients. Facility needs a major facelift or new office, chairs are grey and cracked, and the walls of the patient rooms have stick on outdated decals overall the office makes you feel like you walked back into the 90s not in a good way. They do not have a very good patient portal nor do they have electronic patient forms which in 2025 is sad. Do you know how hard it is to fill out a pamphlet of paper work when your sick child is screaming, this sort of paperwork should be sent ahead of time and electronically in this day and age not only will it ease the lives of the patient but office staff too. Needs some more training on compassionate ethical care not again obvious lack of confidence/experience with patients who are not cookie cutter easy stamp and go. read more

8-28-19 Updating from 3 to 2 stars. Because of an oversight on the office's part, I have to bring my daughter back into the office, pay additional visit fees, and have them give her an additional shot to ensure she's up to date for the school year. The office received all the info they required of me, but didn't take their time to review and ensure vaccine dates and frequency before giving her vaccines. Not a good first impression on the quality of their work on top of the front desk lacking in customer service. What if instead they misread and gave her MORE than what she was to receive as opposed to less? I wonder what their excuse or apology would look like then...as of right now, my time, money, and my daughter's peace of mind is affected. My son turns 4 and will need shots in Dec. I'll look to find another practice before then. *************************************************** Came in to get my soon to be kindergartener ready for the fall. I like how they sent reminders prior and had me print and fill out new patient docs to give when I arrive. I was there 15 min early as requested, but ended up waiting 5 min or more past my appt time until I walked up to ask the front desk if there was anything additional I needed to fill out before being seen. I had 2 kids with me so maybe I was a bit impatient. Maybe they were busy ‍ There aren't any books, puzzles or toys for the kiddies to occupy themselves while waiting or in patient rooms, but there was a tv in the main waiting room. Maybe for hygienic purposes? Waiting room and patient rooms very clean. The nurses were fine, but I thought they could cater more to the kids when interacting given it's a pediatrician's office, but they did their job fine. Nothing extraordinary. I'm used to getting a slip of paper with my kiddies' stats (I save them), but I could be helicoptering or just extra ‍ I was looking around for samples, but none were to be found. You know the baby wash, lotion, Boogie wipes or anything new coming out... Dr Wells was nice, patient, interacted with my 5 and 3 yo. Walked me through paperwork and made sure all questions were answered. I'll continue to use them bc they are 4 min from my home, but will have no problem changing if service is any less than what I received during my first visit. I'm going to give 3 starts bc customer experience is very important to me along with efficiency (which could use a bit more work)and cleanliness (which they were). read more

I have four children ages 25, 23, and 13 (twins). Dr. Gideon has been the primary care physician for all of my children and she has been in our lives close to 20 years. We knew her when she had her old location in Helotes. I read some reviews where someone was upset that they couldn't get an appointment for an emergency or couldn't reach a person because they were busy. Ummm.....go to an urgent care or ER if it's an emergency. Doctor's offices by nature will be busy and I'm sure they were extra busy during the pandemic. If you want preventative and caring medical attention then Dr. Gideon's practice is the place to be. Her front office works hard and they have always treated me with respect and professionalism. Thank you all for being in our lives and helping us raise heathy human beings. Respectfully, Mr. Anzaldua and family read more

I want to start by saying I absolutely love Dr. Gideon. She is kind, caring and listens to what is going on with my children. That is when we actually get to see her. The reason for the rating is not because of her. Extremely frustrated with this practiced ability to see my sick child. I have 2 children, one for 11 yes and the other since birth (8yrs). The scheduling and practice has significantly declined since 2019. We cannot get a sick appointment same day ever. We always have to go to urgent care for antibiotics or eye drops or ointment. It just isn't acceptable to deal with this for the past 3 / 4 years. Just this year I've tried 4 times and been unsuccessful. My son is a diabetic and we just can't wait till the next day to be seen. The front office people show no remorse and basically think it's acceptable to state your sick child can't be seen same day and sometimes not even the next day, it seems like they could care less about helping you out. read more

I have taken my son here since he was brin- he's now almost 10! I love Dr. Gideon! She takes time with her patients and she really listens to them and their parents. She is very caring and thorough. Shannon Bartell is also very good and always makes time to see us when my son is sick! I refer everyone I know to this practice! read more

Only good for well checks. This practice leaves little to no room for sick appointments. I should have realized this when the sick area hardly ever had kids in it. If you want your children seen for sick appointments the same or next day- that will rarely happen here. It has been so frustrating!!! This week, my child had fluid running out his ear. I called Wednesday afternoon and they could see him Monday. Are you kidding me?!!! When my children were babies, they still couldn't see them the same day or next. Sick babies stress me out so I did NOT appreciate being put off for days! Oh and of course they are still taking new patients- even though they can't actually provide ongoing care for the ones they have. This practice maximizes profits off well visits. I wish I had realized this sooner and sought out a practice that actually cares about their patients. I have spoken to several mom's in the area and they all have had the same issue. Never going back and would NOT recommend to anyone. I told a physician about this issue last time we went and they said they were aware of the issue but did not see their business model changing anytime soon. So if you want your child to be just an number and it doesn't bother you to have them home sick for days- you may like this practice. I will be driving a little further so that my children will be seen by a practice that actually cares and treats kids, not just immunize them. read more

Definitely had an awesome experience here today. I'd recommend anyone to bring their sick or well child here. The nurse was so sweet and thorough. My son was diagnosed with what I believed him to have in the first place. This place is awesome. read more

I can never get an appointment when we really need it, what is the point of having a pediatrician or primary doctor for our children if you can't ever see your child's dr? It's been over 5 times my son has been sick in the past year and I've had to take him to an urgent care clinic. That's unacceptable and I'm appalled at the service and care for children at this clinic. read more

horrible place, they change their policies all the time! front staff is rude, change their stories and the worst at communicating. they made me wait an hour and did not see my child due to an issue on their end (their portal was not sending me email) so they chose not to see us because I couldn't the email to the portal never got into my email. make up police's and all they know how to say is " this is the new policy, staff In the past were negligent not to get your information" so it's the parents fault that their staff is not good or at least that's the way they made me feel. after many years of loyalty to them I advise you not to take your kids there! They will waste your time and charge you. Even after spending an hour trying to see a doctor I had an appt for my daughter, they did not give me excuse to take back to work and school. per their policy, they also refused to give me mymedical records to transfer care for my daughter. read more

While Dr. Tamayo and Dr. Gideon are both kind and extremely competent doctors, the front office staff members are inefficient and borderline rude. I won't return. read more

Dr. Tamayo is the best! My daughter and her father are both in the medical field and wouldn't trust anyone else. She's competent, personable, patient, and loves what she does. Been a patient since 2006 read more

I would give 4.5 stars if I could. Dr. Tamayo and Nurse Bartell are an amazing team. They show a genuine concern for the children and spend time to answer questions and explain things. I can't give a 5 because you usually wait for quite a while over the appointment time before getting seen- but it is worth it to get such quality care. read more

This practice was highly recommended so o decided to give it a shot. Dr Gideon is great, her nurse Barbara is great!! The front office staff there....is the worst. From my first phone call, the front office had no idea what a CBC was, which I don't expect her to know how to do one but she should at least know what it is. Then scheduling was always almost two weeks out. For whatever reason, I had to come one week for my baby's constipation and at that time he was due for vaccines....why not do them then....nope I had to come the following week. Not convenient at all. So the last situation was them running behind, which is understandable and can happen, but why not call and let me know that? I had asked to use the rest room and that was a NO...but if they communicated with me that they were well over 15 minutes late maybe I could have gone somewhere close by to use the restroom. I ended up leaving and when I called to get a prescription I needed, nope I got sent to a voicemail. Due to the front office....we will not be returning. They're horrible and not worth dealing with read more

Not a bad place, but had some issues with the doctor not diagnosing how sick my son really was.

We have been going to see Nurse Practitioner Bartel at Helotes Pediatrics since my first son was born almost 2 years ago. We now see her for my second son also. The care and compassion she provides is the absolute best. She always takes her time with us and now with a second baby, she addresses concerns of both babies at every appointment. It is obvious that she loves what she does. She is not pushy, but rather gives us options, advice and ideas and she is very relatable. Our oldest son actually looks forward to going to see her. I don't trust easily, but I always trust Ms. Bartel with the care of my babies. read more

Dr. Gideon is wonderful but ever plan on your child getting sick because they never have appointments available to see your child. In the 6-7 times our son was sick from birth-3 years, they were able to see him ONCE. We always had to just go to the urgent care. read more

On numerous occasions, my children have gotten a fever or been up during the night and needed an appointment the next day, and this office has always done their best to get us an appointment so that my unwell child could be seen that very same day that I am calling to schedule the appointment. The office added another physician to its staff over a year ago which helped with being able to get appointments as well. The front staff has always been courteous and helpful when I have called and come in. I like that they have a section to sit in if your child is well, and a section for children that are sick to help keep illnesses at bay. They have great big tvs on both sides which keeps children occupied while waiting. The office is clean as well. The physicians are knowledgeable and the information we receive is consistent no matter which one we see. I have met with each one, and not a single one of them push an agenda - they are very respectful of the parents and their decisions. We've met with Dr. Gideon the most and she's fantastic! These physician's do not rush you out of the room and make you feel welcome and appreciated as a patient/parent. I highly recommend this practice! read more

Dr. Tamayo is wonderful, five stars. She is very thorough and understanding. My low rating is due to the front office staff and waiting time. The three ladies at the desk never greet you nor do they acknowledge your presence even if you're the only people in the waiting room. It's the same way when you leave. Side conversations are not put on hold for you to check out. Customer service training would be greatly beneficial. read more

I had a 2:30 apt, walked in the office at 2:40 on the dot , but because there was a line didn't sign in until 2:42. Didn't get greeted, or be asked who was I here for, so I assumed I needed to sign in. (Since my husband came to the 1st two visits), the blonde front desk lady, never got the clip board to check me in until almost 3, then i was called up and was asked to reschedule. When I asked why she said it had to be within 10 mins after your apt or the doctor will not see you. I was 2 minutes over on paper!! I work for a practice of 6 doctors and I know how important it is to check in on time, but we also know things happen and we accommodate patient care. This was a follow up, not like I had to redo paperwork, and they refused to see me even though this follow up was very important for my son's result. I rushed from work, had to pick up my son from school and head to the practice. We are never late, and the one time I had an issue with time they refused to see us. I'm very disappointed and it's sad to see that they showed no care or sympathy when I said this visit is really important to us. read more

Hello I was looking for a new pediatric doctor , now this review is not on a doctor there is on a young lady who blunting lied .to start I came in on 2/1 to set up a apt for my son , she said they where booked I did understand that , so she said how about 2/2 at 3pm...I said his bus gets home at that time . .she said that is ok ,can you make it by 330pm,i said sure .well I get there promptly at 325pm that young lady was on the phone so that other lady helped me wellll now she said my appt was at 3pm I told her but that young lady right there told me to be here by 330pm I truly don't understand why she would lie like that ,if I would have not know what she had said all she had to say you know i did say 330pm i thought they would take you in or something like that. would have belied her ,but since I spoke with her and she truly did not tell the truth . the way I see it if you can lie about something like that little what else do you lie about . i am very old school and all my other kids are grown up and they know better . what she did not know is I too work as a secretary at Baptist down town and I have been there for over 15yrs in that field for 30 and my reputation at that hospital is excellent they know when I say some think I will fallow thru. I don't know how you want to handle this. but I believe you lost a customer and I am not happy at all . thank you for listing i am very disappointment read more
