Situated in a shared paseo, this place serves up some pretty good chicken. But being fried, it's easy to overcook. The chicken was a bit on the tough side, would have liked it more juicy. Tried the level 1 (mild) and the level 5 (HH Invitational). Level 5 wasn't too spicy, until the last bite of the first tender. You need to let it accumulate to get that burn. The dipping sauce was good, The fries were good too, lightly coated and crispy. Service was fast and friendly. Absolutely delicious chicken tenders. Came here for a quick bite to eat while walking around downtown. The chicken tenders are so tender and flavorful with trick, crispy fries. Fully delicious. Add on some regular pickles, and you're ready to go. There's a few tables outside to sit and enjoy your food. I'd imagine when it's busy that there would be some problems finding a place to sit. Ok, this place was good. Way better than expected. You walk in and order from a screen (unless you are paying cash). Then they call your name with your order. Pretty simple and fast. I ordered the 2 chicken tenders which is served with fries (which are amazing on their own). Then you choose your heat level. The levels are: 1. Hellaplain 2. Mild 3. medium 4. hot. 5. hellahot and 6. hh invitational. I wanted to go for number 6 but my friend talked me out of it and I opted for number 4. I'm glad I did because it was HOT! If I could put 0 stars I would. Our order took almost 25 minutes, the chicken must have been left out, and fries were overly seasoned. When my wife asked an employee to replace our side of fries the employee immediately got an attitude with her. Although we did get a new order of fries, the employee was rude and seemed to be under the influence! Not to mention our outside seating, which was dirty. Is there a way to give this place 100 stars ???!!! I took my son for a staycation in our state! We are from the Bay Area but came down for the weekend and decided to do our own tour of food spots in SLO. He found this spot via Yelp and we said why not? We arrived and the girl that assisted us was so sweet and helpful we ordered the chicken meal with fries and deep fried Oreos. Can we talk about the chicken bites and fries dipped in their signature sauce and the honey mustard top tier I am still dreaming about it. Then the fried Oreos. They tasted like doughnuts with Oreo filling drizzled with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar! We ordered only two and instantly went back to order more. Snugged away in a nice little plaza located next to the best ice cream in SLO ( Nite Creamery duh ), I waited months for the local restaurant to open up. And the wait was so worth it. Right off the bat their customer service is so great. They answered all the questions I had and just gave off great vibes. You can tell the owners and workers really care about the business and all their customers. In terms of food, The Sando had superb seasoning, a perfect crunch, and is just massive. The flavoring alone is easily better than any other chicken sandwich in SLO. Their red lemonade is a must try, very refreshing and similar to strawberry lemonade. A place to eat your food hot and fresh, not the best for takeout to bring home as this food is at its best when it comes out. Picked up lunch on a Tuesday. Service was friendly and fast. This place is hidden in a courtyard surrounded by buildings, so its not possible to see from the street. There is a cow statue in an archway where you enter. Like most of downtown SLO, parking is a challenge as this place has no lot and you can't use any of the lots around. With many unhoused folks and sketchy folks hanging around downtown, not an area I want to walk around a lot from a far away lot. On street parking is metered with a 2 hour max and it's painful to parallel park on Higuera St. I put 20 mins on the meter thinking that would be enough time to eat a sandwich and get back, I was wrong. When I arrived there was a group of 7 guys ordering, then 2 more before me in line. The menu is hard to read when standing in line, they have two screens with animated images that are wasted as they could make the menu bigger and spread it across two screens. There are printed menus next to the register, but again tiny type with red print on black. Have a thought for folks with less than perfect eyesight or impaired vision. Naturally it took time for them to make the 9 orders ahead of mine. After 15 mins the cashier did tell me that the grilled chicken for the salad I ordered takes longer so the order was almost ready. By that time it was too late to eat any of it and I had to take it home. As others have said, by the time you get home the fries and most of the food is cold, so not great for takeout. There are several picnic tables and the place has 5-6 small tables out front. Not much cover, so hard to enjoy if it is raining or cold (though they did have one heat lamp out). I ordered the sandwich with a hot level of spicy. I love spicy, eat it all the time, and it was plenty spicy for me. You have to be really able to take the heat to go to the higher levels of spice here. Most of the food comes in the sadly typically oversized American serving size. Sandwich is huge and too much for one meal unless you are a very big eater. It's a nice big chicken piece and well cooked, so a good value for the price, but too big IMHO. Same with the fries and fried pickles and even the salad, way more than a person needs. Hard to judge the fries as they were cold and limp when I tried them, but flavor was fine. Ordered the salad with grilled chicken so I could have that for dinner. Fortunately most of the chicken they put on it is in the middle so it doesn't ruin the vegetables if you keep it. Fried pickles were fine, breaded and fried regular pickles nothing amazing. The fried oreos are inspired and sinfully delicious. Again, I'm sure they are much better when not stone cold. Aside from the grilled chicken salad, or other grilled options, this is all fried food with high calorie content, so not a place to feel like you are having a healthy meal, this is an indulgence. Some great ideas, well cooked and prepared food and excellent service. Must eat it there or within 3 mins if you don't want to be disappointed by cold food. read more

The folks there are really cool. It's kind of built in a courtyard among other buildings so we missed it with the gps. The medium chicken spice was very good, the seasoning spicy and adds a bit of texture too. The chicken itself was very good, cooked really well (ie not dry at all) and not overly breaded. The fries were also quite tasty as well as the coleslaw/pickles on top of the slider. The Mac & Cheese wasn't my favorite, but still okay. As far as service goes, you order at a kiosk, and the food is delivered to your table (we did take out). The person who delivered was nice though!
