I have had my 2 front teeth bonded over and over for the past 4 years, every 6 months. I had finally had enough and researched the best Dentists in NJ. He did, however contact Dr. Maddalena on my behalf. So, via a three party association, he agreed to see me immediately. He discovered and corrected an error made by a VA dentist the day prior. He performed a route canal that very morning and prescribed an alternate antibiotic. He also provided several packages of two over the counter medications he judged to be most effective for any post-procedural and infection induced pain. He is a consummate professional and treated me with the care I needed based on medical necessity and not on the basis of a prior relationship. He directed me to call his cell phone later in the day to assure the measures taken were effective and called me on a Sunday morning to verify the continuing decrease of symptoms. His actions reflect the importance of his perceived responsibility to render care when needed.

At no point did he tell me there would be a consultation fee, nor in my calling around, is a consultation fee usual from those I've spoken to. At the point his assistant told me of the $225 consultation fee I felt somewhat defeated but she said they would bill my insurance for reimbursement to be sent to me. About a week ago I received a check from my insurance company for $80. I was so upset. I do not have loads of money available for dental work and budget everything carefully. I wrote the office. They had been following up with me multiple times to schedule my next appointment. I told them I could not in good conscience go back to a place where something so basic was overlooked and shrugged off. The response was verging on gross. It was sort of a "too bad for you" if you want the consultation fee waived you'll have to make an appointment to continue. To sum up. I lost money. They lost nothing. I wasn't asking for a refund but to meet in the middle and let them know this was damaging to my trust and finances. The tone was clearly in disregard of me as a patient or as a person. I guess if you have to ask - you cant afford. Clearly the $225 means as much to them, if not more, than it does to me - and more than keeping a patient or a good reputation.

I called Drs. Agaliotis' office and explained my situation. They made time form me that day, although they were extremely busy. Dr. Georgia Agaliotis took an X-Ray and suggested that I go to an Endodontist to get a CT scan, see if the tooth was salvageable. They called Dr. Vivian Graham, who saw me within a half hour. She took a CT scan and showed me where the tooth was cracked along the root. The tooth would have to be pulled. I was sent back to Dr. Mario Agaliotis for getting an impression of my teeth before my tooth was full. Dr. Mario Agaliotis called the Oral Surgeon Dr. Benjamin Jacobs and explained my case. The day, Dr. Benjamin Jacobs so me, went over my CT scan, pulled the tooth, removed the infected bone, and did a bone graft. All three teams of doctors and staff were very professional and efficient. My pain went from extremely high, to sore, to no pain within one day.

I was held down by their staff and given novocaine with out a numbing agents and they prohibited my mother from being with me. So to say I have trust issues with dentists is a gross understatement. A decade without dental treatment is not a good thing. And despite my shaking and tears, Dr. Chiu and her staff never made me feel stupid or dramatic. They took the time to tell me everything they had to do, even being honest when it was something uncomfortable. She perfected my smile in time for my wedding which I am extremely happy about. I no longer hide my smile behind my mouth and know Dr. Chiu will work to get what is best for me and my wallet. My husband now sees her as well. Dentist visits are never fun but even at the worst (root canal) I was comfortable thanks to the staff and able to manage my anxiety.
