Having been an editor for a year of this magazine, I'm a little biased. While I have to admit that quality has been patchy over the years, in principle the concept is excellent and there've been some truly fantastic issues.
Showcasing student creative writing (poetry, prose, features), artwork and photography, Helicon is entirely put together by a team of Bristol University students. While obviously it's impossible to guarantee 100% quality from student writing, there's some genuine talent on show in the magazine.
While reading short creative pieces isn't for everyone, Helicon is good for a leaf through in spare moments. Some of the issues have been beautifully designed as well, with some truly creative page layouts. I can only hope that Helicon goes from strength to strength. read more
