Poor Old Helensburgh Pier - it's a bit of a state these days, a far cry from it's former glory. But like most things that are designed to impress the visitors rather than the residents, I believe the council are about to spend a large proportion of our council tax on a long overdue revamp.
Although it's not in a good way, it's still very nice to take a walk along the pier on a summer evening. As long as you don't pay too much attention to the teenagers hanging around, that is! But from the end, you can look straight out over to Gourock, and in the summer I believe there is still a little passenger ferry so you can take a day trip if you so desire.
There's a large car park at the pier, and the Tourist Information Centre is just beside this. read more
