There's so many of them and they are all exceptionally well stocked! PDSA is no exception. Although it's small it seems to always have a wide variety of donations, all selling off at a reasonable price. There are the usual PDSA branded ornamanets to be found in here - all animal orientated gifts, naturally - but this palce seems to get donations varying alarmingly from clothes to gardening equipment! I have always been lucky when I've visited this charity shop, and have come out with nearly new dresses from New Look, some music and jewellery. For a while now they have been doing two for £10 on ladies and men's jackets which all look in spanking new condition (and quite expensive!) The shop assistants are always very complimentary, too. Go on, have a wee peek - you'll probably get lucky too!

Michael, you're a delight to my eyes!…read more Michael is by no means a regular mainstream fashionista of vision however more than one person you meet in a day will be wearing his spectacles. They were once on someones nose and out of his cases of retro-specs Michael has styles for everyone. If you had to reread that, you did not misread, Michael delivers a unique service of eye-dressing. A qualified optician who can "expertly fit all types of lenses to your own prescription" to any frame you pick. So long as your prescriptions no older than 2 years old. I know the eye-dresser through the Granny Would Be Proud fairs and Michael like clockwork is at one each month with a spectacular spectacle of specs. From as far back as your mum can remember to our most contemporary vintage source, the 1990's. I picked a 1960's NHS frame possibly the best decision I made since my first opticians appointment. Mostly for me the delight is in reusing something which otherwise had little other use, other than maybe being worn without lenses... However that is another rant. My specs look great and feel great! That is why my eyes feel great and look better than they have since I was 13. The Eyedresser offers great service, and decent vintage products at very affordable prices and no hassle worrying if you'll look like a granny!

This is one of the main reasons that I really admire this place; seen as Scotland's population is indeed prone to these sorts of medical problems. In fact, a close friend recently had a family loss due to a sudden and massive heart attack in her sleep and at only 43 years old. Anyway, back to this particular charity shop. It's a decent size and has a good selection of stock. This includes knickknacks, books, magazines, records, tapes and cds as well as clothes, shoes and tons of kiddies toys. I realise, there is still some stigma attached to charity shops and I imagine, this is especially the case when it comes to children's books and toys. Which is a real shame because they do have some really nice and reasonably priced stock in here. Luckily, I don't know anyone with young kids, so this is something I can't take advantage of - but if you do, it's definitely worth a look. Other items to look out for in here have got to be sensible, good quality work clothes and - the odd time - shoes. Not all sparkles and excitement, I know. But I do have a real bug bare about spending loads of well earned cash on work clothes that immediately get shoved into the washing machine after a shift. Of course, it's not all about going buying mad; the other side of the coin if, of course, donating any unwanted items you have hidden under the bed. So pop along.

The sales assistants (beautifully bespectacled of course) are really friendly and more than happy to explain the Frame Tailor process. In amongst a plethora of clothes and kitschy vintage cushion covers, I uncovered the most coveted jumper in the history of Mankind. It's unnatural to fall in love with an item of clothing, but I did - it's my favourite jumper in the whole world. It even came with shoulder pads inside! (I cut them out.) This place is packed with genuine articles from the 80s and 90s that have slipped back in with the trend setters. West End studenty type shoppers would probably have an orgasm in here, especially when they looked at the price tag. I did when I saw the best jumper in the universe cost 2 quid! I wear this thing almost every day, seriously. It's magnificent. It's quite possibly the best bargain I have ever acquired. This place is teeming with bargains from all areas and the staff are really friendly. They seem to have a good sense of humour - you'd have to, to like the kind of jumpers I buy. I just love this shop. I never come out of here empty handed, and wear half the items I buy in here more than expensive stuff in my wardrobe. I'd spend the fiver on train fare to pilgrimage to Helensburgh's charity outlets even if I didn't have family down here!
