A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.

I walked over here to the Blake to check things out... and it is so beautiful and modern! The rooms look amazing and spacious, and they have a stylish bar open for dinner. It's not open for breakfast, but Lori (the wonderful employee at the front desk) explained that they offer free coffee and tea and pastries in the morning and that each room also has an espresso machine. Sign me up! They are booked up for tonight, but I made a reservation to switch for the rest of my visit. I'm super excited to move over here and will update later.

I hate giving a one star review when my stay was enjoyable being rooms and location. The reason for…read morethe one star is due to 3 weeks later i was billed a dinner on my credit card for a $250 . Mind you I live in Florida. Spoke to number of front desk people all nice. I was promised a call from them manager to fix the situation. Its been over a week now and no call from the manager. The manager name is Emma Swann. Promised multiple times within hours she will call and nothing. Its sickening. No concern for the guests.I am beyond annoyed As she clearly doesn't care I was robbed. Still have this charge on my credit card. I will never stay at The Blake or refer anyone to stay . Plenty great hotels in New Haven. IF you havr any issues do not expect Emma Sean to resolve anything. I try everyday to reach her with no avai.

We were welcomed with freshly baked bread and a warm gougère, which reminded me of Brazilian pão de queijo. For drinks, I enjoyed the French 75 along with the non-alcoholic Pamplemousse, while my niece ordered the non-alcoholic Guadalupe. To start, we each had the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and comforting. We also shared the foie gras torchon, which my niece described as incredibly smooth and creamy. For our entrées, we ordered the filet of beef and the rack of lamb. Both were cooked to perfection, and I appreciated that neither dish was overwhelmed with gravy or sauce, allowing the quality of the meat to shine. For dessert, we shared the mixed berry soufflé and the Feuillantine. The Feuillantine was my favorite--it was wonderfully rich, chocolatey, and creamy. Pairing bites of the light, fruity soufflé with the decadent chocolate dessert turned out to be a delicious combination. To end the meal, the restaurant surprised us with complimentary pistachio macarons, which was a thoughtful finishing touch. The restaurant has an elegant atmosphere that feels refined without being stuffy. Combined with the outstanding food and exceptional service, it made for a memorable celebration, and I'd happily return.

If Michelin ever rates CT this will absolutely and deservedly get a star. The service was excellent, the drinks were fabulous (they had champagne waiting for us; it was our anniversary). The space is beautifully appointed and I want to eat there every day. Simply outstanding.
