Our family recently had the very unfortunate experience to use Heitger's Funeral Home to bury our mother. Beginning with the receptionist, who was extremely rude, and the Funeral Director, Cathi, who couldn't give a clear answer to the balance of charges on my mother's account and who became passive aggressive, rude, and defensive during the entire process even to the point of asking my siblings and I to sign off on insurance paperwork at the calling hours, in front of our mother's coffin while people were coming in! When I asked to see an accounting before signing she said " this is not the time" so I asked my family not to sign the paperwork until she could answer our questions. I agreed that the calling hours WAS NOT the time for this business but then she angrily said there was not another time to attend to the matter.
There was no attempt at any time to make clear to us the breakdown of payments and insurance or help us with the actual planning of the funeral mass. Unfortunately, most of my siblings and I live in other states and leaving soon after the services and not in a mental state to argue with Cathi, so we paid the balance. In hindsight, I wish we wouldn't have done that until we all felt comfortable with the costs.
We do not know if Heitger's did anything illegal but Cathi's behavior was certainly suspicious as well as rude and defensive. Our family was taken advantage of during our time of loss and grief and I would tell anyone to get as much information about a funeral home before being in a situation of need and grief. read more
