Super family-friendly atmosphere with the option to rent skates or bring your own. Staff was friendly both on and off the rink, and they had different size skate mates so even bigger kids felt safe. The DJ called out the birthday kids for a special celebration in the rink, which was such a nice touch! They also had games throughout like limbo -- the kids loved it! I loved the refillable Icee option (cheaper than the regular price), and the soda machine had that option too. Made-to-order food was good -- we had the cinnamon sugar mini donuts and some hot dogs. Great! Another solid Northland find! Perfect spot if your kids love to skate and dance.

I plan to have my daughter's 4th Birthday party here. Initially I was trying to find a better, cleaner rink with better bathrooms but sadly that doesn't exist at a reasonable price point. So let's start with the good. The skating staff are exceptional. Even many of the super frequent patrons take it upon themselves to watch out for little kids and check on them every time they fall. Staff checked in several times and several young kids between 7 and 12 were constantly checking in with them after every fall, helping them get their trainers back etc. the music was super fun and my kids skated hard for 3 hours! They are 12, 5 and 3. I had to size down on my skates, pay extra for trainers and I wasn't impressed with the concessions at all. It took FOREVER for $7+ nachos, mozzarella sticks (overpriced as well), and a hot dog. The hot dog and drink were on special for $2.50 a piece so those were the best deal. But I spent nearly $100 on the 3 hours there with 3 kids and myself skating. And I don't understand how, at that price point they haven't upgraded anything in the 40 years it's been around. There is literal grime built up for 40 years, the bathrooms have short wood doors that someone tall could see over and there isn't much space at all. Not family friendly for a family establishment. I attended a party here probably about 13 years ago and was disappointed in the grime then as well. I told myself I'd never do one here. But I am because it's basically the only option. I do understand the nostalgia of not upgrading. I just think a good strip and wax of the floors or painting over some grime would go a long way.

This was not a good roller skating experience, and I've been to a lot of different rinks. 8? 10?…read more This was the lawless rink. I've never been to a rink where they didn't have one or more staff members skating on the rink to ensure safety and enforce rules. They didn't have any staff members anywhere near the rink. And they needed them! I hope they have good insurance! (though they had us sign a waiver before entering, which is the only time I've experienced that at a rink.) It wasn't crowded on the Sunday afternoon that we went, but it was really hard to skate. One kid going the wrong way around the rink, kids and *adults* cutting across the rink instead of going in an oval. One young teen stealing the skate assist device from his younger siblings and then zig-zagging across the rink while they tried to chase him to get it back. One guy doing his dance moves across the path of traffic - dude, go in the middle or a corner! One man standing in the path of traffic doing things on his phone. And then the usual of kids cutting across. The rink also doesn't have a wall around it, which means at any moment someone might decide to cut across as they enter or exit the rink. I'm a good skater, but multiple times I had to skate off of the rink to avoid crashing into someone behaving badly. It made it so not fun. And when people fell down, there was no staff to check they were ok or help them up like at other rinks. I would have given it one star, because I really just didn't want to stay (and I often stay for multiple hours at rinks), but there were some good things. The floor was good, and the price wasn't bad. There were plenty of places to sit. Music was decent though loud. There was a separate little rink for beginner skaters. We were there for the second half of an afternoon session and there were no games or couples skate or anything, and I didn't see any way to request your favorite song. I had to try 3 times to get a decent rental skate (first time they gave me the wrong size, second time one skate had a wheel loose), and the laces were messed up still. Swope Soccer Village is a hidden gem tucked away on the eastern side of Swope Park in between The…read moreZoo and I-435. This is a fairly decent sized complex so I'm going to focus more on Championship Field, which is the main field, where the Swope Park Rangers and FC Kansas City play. The field itself is immaculate. It's perfectly manicured, watered, marked and a great place to watch your team perform. The rest of the venue is a mix of not yet ready for prime time and also you get what you pay for. I don't mean that in a bad way, but I do want to be direct. While the action on the field is competitive, it's definitely a developmental league. The venue reflects it a bit as the surrounding seating is all aluminum bleachers save for behind one goal where there's a small green space. At the same time, as a fan you're not paying major league ticket prices and can usually catch a game for anywhere between $10-25 per ticket. It's a lot of fun to bring the kids out, especially if they're playing on a local team. As mentioned in other threads, parking is a bit limited and during a larger attended match you can find yourself parking in a field that's a decent walk down the road. It's no bother though, we all need the exercise. There are a couple of drawbacks... the first being there is no shade. Most of the time during the Spring and Fall this isn't really an issue because we all love being outside on a beautiful day, but from mid June through August those beautiful days can be squelching. The second is while the complex has a clean set of restrooms none are available once you are inside Championship Field. There is a set of portable toilets, but if you're a clean freak then you might want to get your business done before you leave. The good thing is soccer has a running clock so won't have to wait too long. Like I said above, this review is about the Championship Field, but I do want to note the complex has about nine or ten other fields, some synthetic and some natural grass that look to have local, league and tournament action on them. If you have a young one interested in the game you might want to stop by and check it out.

She was not very good at first but everyone here was supportive. Then she started taking lessons from Hannah and she just blossomed and has been improving at a steady clip ever since which inspired us to become members. This is a great place to take your kids if they are interested in tennis. The rates are reasonable and Hannah is a wonderful and personable coach. The support staff is wonderful and the facility is clean. There are tennis parties at Halloween and Christmas for the kids and as they grow into the sport match play is available. This is a very nurturing and supportive environment. Getting court time as a member has been a breeze and if you are an adult competitive player there are leagues for that as well. This is a great place for beginner or the accomplished player. I just hope Hannah never leaves because I will have a tough choice because my daughter loves her as a coach.

This a neat little park tucked away in a quiet Liberty neighborhood…read more An asphalt trail surrounds the park, which is a bit unique, because it's cut into two sides by a creek. The west side of the park includes a rope-based spiderweb contraption, that the kids can climb and swing from, a softball field, a soccer field and a bathroom facility. The east side of the park includes a playground with some swings, a jungle gym and a slide, a cabana area for groups and lots of green space. It's the perfect spot for a picnic, a place to layout and read a book if the weather is right or a even a place to toss a around a frisbee or a football.
