It was the best milchreis in ten years, flavourful without a hint of artificial ingredients. Berries adorned the top. The rice was crisp slightly, perfectly-prepared. Each staff member clearly had the highest professional standards; service was excellent - one is expected to handle one's tray, as it is cantine-style and not a restaurant per se, yet it had every other amenity. This is what people call 'no frills' and although that's kinda true I think it is a disservice. This is a German kniepe, what you see is what you get and well, we liked what we saw. I could easily spend long nights in here - great choice of beers, liquers and apertifs. Didn't sample the food but the menu looked good and any food coming pact to other diners looked basic and wholesome. We thought the service was great - we got chatting the lady behind the bar and she was very friendly. Charming.

Sometimes it does take the waiters a bit to get your order but they are humans and try their best. On the weekends they have brunch as mentioned above, so should it take a bit until your waiter takes your order, go ahead and check out the brunch selection and start eating. Because one pays a flat rate for the brunch, and beverages cost extra (of course). The price for brunch varies depending on the day. I believe that Sunday cost a bit more but has also a bigger selection and warm meals. I love their brunch selection and their warm meals. I think this place is mainly frequented by locals as it is not in a busy area or an area that one would expect a restaurant to be. The reason why it is a family restaurant is that right next door to the restaurant is an awesome playground. It is so great that it makes me want to be a kid again. So, naturally we take our daughter to the playground after brunch. The restaurant has a big seating area in their garden and even in front of the restaurant. We recently discovered you can even take your drinks to the playground with either a pfand (deposit) on the glass or in a paper cup. I think it's supposed to be the former, but the prices aren't necessarily reflective of dive bars: they're not super great but they aren't over the top either. If you come in the afternoon, it can be cozy, with plenty of seating options. Just don't sit too close to the door on cold days, because it can get drafty in my experience. In the summer, try and grab a seat outside in front. There is often free, live music inside in the evenings. I have seen a couple jazz groups perform here, which is always interesting and worth a visit. The beer selection used to be mediocre but it has improved a bit in the past couple years - that or I just now noticed the extra special selections on the table that aren't listed in the menu. Other than that I haven't really tried anything else, though I have noticed that the service is super slow, which is likely my biggest complaint. All in all, it's worth catching a gig here and hanging out with friends every now and again.

As a bar it is nice, quite cosy, but with enough space to come with a fairly large group of friends. They often have music here (that varies in genre and quality) and sometimes they have snacks. The price is ok, a little bit expensive for waht the drinks are, but not a lot different to many bars in Berlin.
