What an awesome little find in Jim Thorpe, PA!…read more If you're a music lover, this place is definitely worth a visit. Soundcheck Records has an impressive selection of CDs and, believe it or not, cassettes for those who appreciate a little nostalgia. Their new vinyl inventory is outstanding, with plenty of albums spanning a variety of genres and artists. When I stopped in, the used vinyl section was a bit limited because many of the records had sold quickly--which is usually a good sign. One look at the prices and it's easy to understand why. Their pricing is fair and collector-friendly, making it hard to leave empty-handed. Beyond the music, they also carry concert T-shirts, mugs, and other music-related merchandise. I was also happy to find a nice selection of discounted Record Store Day vinyl releases, which is always a treat for collectors. What really sets this shop apart are the owners. They're incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about music. If they don't have what you're looking for in stock, they're happy to special order it and even have it shipped directly to you. Jim Thorpe is full of unique shops, and Soundcheck Records is one of the best. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in--you never know what musical treasure you might discover.

I want to say, I don't collect records, I collect CDs, this was actually my first record purchase ever so I was nervous and desperate to get it. So I was grateful that when I called the Tuesday before that they informed me of the single copy of the record I wanted that they would have in stock (King James Version, Harvey Danger!). The day of I was late but lucky, as nobody had taken it yet, and when you were in line they had someone who would help find records for you. Yelp is insisting I say something about value, so I will say that this had an extremely fair price. This was a limited run collectors item and I know for a fact that they priced it well within the usual range for it sold throughout the states, even though they are a very small business is a very small town in the middle of PA. Not saying I expect small businesses to price gouge a little, but for this record and on this big record store day, I did expect to pay a premium and I got a very fair price. So these are honest people as well as helpful. Thank you!

They had already expanded their space at the old location once, and this new location continues on that path. The first floor has all of the gaming and comic products, while the second floor has the gaming space. Store has a pretty large selection of card and tabletop gaming items. New pull comic book selection is good, with longboxes mostly containing newer books. Graphic novels are spread across several bookshelves and the selection is good. They have a handful of other things like Pop Vinyls. Overall, Alchemist's Cove Games & Comics is arguably the best comic book shop for several surrounding counties outside of the Allentown metro area, and continues to grow. It's worth a stop when in the area.

I've known about this shop for a while but felt the need to stop in again as it's been a few years…read more It's located in the Cressona Mall, a small mall that could be considered a strip mall in many ways. The shop is by the Dollar Shop entrance, which appears to have been blocked off, so enter from the main mall entrance. Somewhere In Time is large for a memorabilia/card shop. The day I visited they had a sidewalk sale going on. This shop is major old school and is a collectors/diggers DREAM. Most shops like this are long closed or located at flea markets with limited hours. Near the register area is the wall of cards, which included Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon cards that I did not expect to see in a shop like this. Shop had several boxes of old singles to browse through. They have a huge selection of various collectables, but you can tell when items have gone through popularity changes. I saw various bobble heads and action figures from several eras, potential buys if you know what you are looking for. Tons of sports collectibles are located throughout the entire shop. Something the shop should look into is a major cleanup/reorganization. Areas of the shop were roped off, other things were covered up, and some areas were hard to get into with a tight fit. Some new shelving with reorganized isles and slightly brighter lighting would be nice improvements. I found myself conflicted when giving this shop a rating as I suspect most people don't know about it except for locals. While there are many shops that are part of the Cressona Mall, it is a little off the beaten path. For organization I would give it a three, but the vast selection and service bumps it up to a four. I'm wondering if the shop has considered carrying Comic Books, Board/RPG Gaming, or hosting Magic/Pokemon Tournaments as I know of no shops doing it in the Cressona/Frackville/Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven/St. Clair metro area and most shops are diversifying into these areas.

If you can't find something, the staff will work to get what you are looking for and get it to you. The only problem is the organization. Behind the counter, on the floor needs to get tightened up. In a back room is tons of memorbelia unable to get to or look at. Otherwise it is a great store with a vast selection. It is my favorite store around for anything sports.
