Have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kennard, Dr. Flores and the entire team at Harmony…read more They're guiding us through our first pregnancy and have been super thorough and patient with us in each one of our appointments (even with my MANY, incessant questions). My one piece of advice is that I would have loved a handout with the pregnancy tests and timelines that we needed to follow in the early months of our pregnancy (as certain blood tests, ultrasounds, etc. have to be done at certain times). Adding a little outline here, in case anyone else is in the same (clueless) boat that we were as first time parents: 1ST TRIMESTER SCREENING (10 weeks - 14 weeks) Includes both a blood test (you can "walk in" at Central Coast Pathology or any place that does blood work) and a nuchal translucency ultrasound, which helps determine the risk of Down Syndrome. There are very few places in SLO that are able to do the high resolution ultrasound required for the nuchal translucency, so book your appointment at Obstetrix several weeks in advance (they take all PPOs and some HMOs). (I believe the HMOs that they do not take have to travel down to Santa Maria, so definitely call in advance.) Note: Get paperwork from Creating Harmony to bring to the blood test and ultrasound. Also request that Harmony send a referral to Obstetrix (they'll need that before they can book your appt). PROGENITY GENETIC CARRIER AND PRENATAL SCREENING (10 or more weeks) This one is for high risk pregnancies, but we opted to go for it as well. It tests certain chromosomal deletions or additions that are fairly serious, so if you're the type that thirsts for more rather than less information, this one's for you. It takes the place of the old amniocentesis procedure (which was super invasive and carried risk of miscarriage), with a super easy blood draw from the arm, which they then use to separate the baby's cells from your own. Insurance will cover it if you're over a certain age or have key risk factors. For everyone else, it's $100. Note: Get paperwork from Creating Harmony for this one as well. 20-WEEK ULTRASOUND (20 weeks) This one measures your baby's brain circumference and checks for other signs of healthy development. Obstetrix is, once again, really the only show in town for this ultrasound. Again, make sure you get a referral from Creating Harmony (or better yet, have them send all the referrals at one time). Will add to this as we get farther along in our pregnancy, but hope it helps!

I've never written a negative review before, but my experience with Dr. Sungurlu was so upsetting,…read moreI feel obligated to warn others -- especially first-time moms. This was my very first ultrasound, a moment I had dreamed about. Instead, it turned into one of the most heartbreaking, cold, and confusing experiences I've ever had with a medical professional. Dr. Sungurlu was shockingly rude and dismissive from the moment she walked in. No warmth, no introduction, no effort to make me feel seen or safe. She barely acknowledged me, rushed through everything, and made zero effort to explain what was happening. Her attitude made it very clear she had no intention of continuing care with me -- though she never said it outright. She simply walked out of the room mid-appointment, without a single word of goodbye or any indication that the visit was over. My partner and I were left sitting there in silence, confused and hurt. We had to track down a nurse just to ask for the ultrasound photos -- something that should have been handed to us with care, not treated like an afterthought. I left that appointment in tears. What should have been one of the most joyful days of early pregnancy felt like a cold rejection. No one deserves to feel that way during such a vulnerable and important time. I don't know what kind of day she was having -- but if you can't show basic human decency to someone carrying life for the first time, you should not be in prenatal care. Do better.

I saw Sungurlu for my first pregnancy. I saw she had amazing reviews soo I was excited to have her…read moreoversee my pregnancy. I developed gestational diabetes. Almost immediately after each appointment I'd leave crying because she'd scream at me telling me I would kill my baby. Once there was even an assistant with her. My sugars were often within the limit but a bit on the higher end. I spoke to a few friends who were nurses and a PA who worked with women with high risk pregnancies. They were shocked and furious when I told them about the care of been receiving. They looked at my sugar logs and said they looked fine. All my other appointments for high risk pregnancies outside her care went well. She was born at 6lbs and is healthy.

The intake people were understanding and looked and found a spot for me. So I showed up and had to complete new patient paperwork. Before I had completed that I was called in to the exam room. Ashlee was awesome. Asked the right questions and made me feel very comfortable. Doctor came in shortly and had already reviewed my labs and tests results from the emergency room and basically performed what I expected. Dr. Karen Song and her ME Ashlee thank you for your good care and consideration!

I do not recommend this office if you have complex or ongoing health issues…read more I first requested a referral to a specialist for endometriosis on June 12, 2025. After multiple follow-ups (including confirming UCSF as my choice on July 30, 2025) the referral was still never sent. Even my case manager called in, and she was told there was "no record" of my request -- despite multiple emails in their own system proving otherwise. When I had a severe endo flare (10/10 pain), I wasn't offered meaningful support. Instead, I was told that if I couldn't take ibuprofen, I couldn't take Toradol -- as if that was the extent of care I deserved. At one point, I felt staff assumed I was just seeking pain meds when all I wanted was to be heard, supported, and properly referred. This office gave my case manager the runaround for three weeks, and I was left untreated, dismissed, and in worse health. For patients with real, complex conditions like endometriosis, POTS, and overlapping chronic illness, the lack of compassion and follow-through is unacceptable. If you want to be seen, heard, and taken seriously, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for care.

Just a few of my experiences with Dr. Safarik…read more * Left his home in the evening to perform an emergency c-section which could have easily been left to the on-call physician. (First pregnancy.) * Delivered me at a hospital he doesn't usually deliver at because that's what my insurance covered. * I had a terrible rash post pregnancy, and he called twice while on his vacation once with instructions and then a couple days later to follow up. (Unheard of.) * He stopped delivering babies but as he was still my GYN during my second pregnancy he called me upon hearing I was breech with very helpful recommendations. * He recommended a previous colleague of his but I couldn't get in because she was so full. He contacted her because he felt I needed her level of experience. He was correct. * Despite retiring from deliveries he made room on his calendar to assist in surgery for my second c-section which proved to be a bit challenging. * If I was to begin listing all he has done for friends and family members the review would be entirely too long. This physician will do whatever it takes within his abilities to get you the best care in a way that fits best for your situation. He sets himself aside consistently for the service and quality care of his patients. His follow through and standard of care is off the charts. On top of being the most humble doctor I've encountered.

Be careful, they are super shady!

First off I have to note that I haven't seen any gynecologists in this office although I hear…read morethey're wonderful....when you *actually* get in to see them. I'm becoming more and more frustrated with this office. Made an appointment in February of 2024 for an annual Pap smear etc... understandably they were making appointments several months out (mine was in August). August comes around and it gets cancelled rescheduled for September, no big deal. September comes around and it gets cancelled *again*. Rescheduled for October- cancelled. Rescheduled again to November....cancelled. I am now scheduled for TWO appointments in December because they can't do IUD removal/replacement during annuals (huh?!). Also the office staff seem completely unbothered by having to reschedule you. I have also repeatedly told them my IUD expires in December and again there's no real emotional response from the scheduling. I don't know why they say they're accepting new patients if they have to keep rescheduling appointments 3+ times. I don't know what is going on but it's incredibly frustrating. If they cancel again (which who wants to bet that they do?) I'm just going to go to Planned Parenthood or my GP.

It is very important to find a good OBGYN that is trustworthy, easily accessible and caring. For about one year, I've been seeing Dr. Colton in this office, and he checks all the boxes. He's attentive, listens to my concerns and addresses them in a professional manner. He is understanding and explains all medical procedures patiently. The office staff has always been very welcoming, friendly and nice to me, and the parking validation with a large parking structure next door is an added bonus. I trust the people in this office, and find all rooms and the waiting area to be clean, modern and calming.
