I got called for jury duty recently. I had no idea it was traffic court. I know it's my civic duty,…read morebut what a long boring day! I didn't expect this to be a fun filled day, but a review is still necessary. From the start, I was annoyed I couldn't find the "H" parking lot to use my jury duty free parking coupon from my jury summons letter. I thought it was just me. I ended up using the parking directly across from the building. There were plenty of spots when I arrived at 8:34 AM. My duty didn't start until 9:30 AM, but lucky me, I was early - heavy eye roll! The first parking meter closest to my spot that I attempted to use was broken. Nothing showed up on the screen to start my ticket purchase. I walked to the next meter in the middle of the lot. Anyone wanna guess if it worked. Correct, it did not! I moved a couple steps over and tried the third one. Finally! A working meter! Thankfully it wasn't raining, but even at 8:30ish AM in Houston, it is still hot. I was not pleased I had to try so many meters. $5.00 for 4 hours or $10.00 for the whole day. I opted for the whole day since I had no idea what time I would end up being released. I walked back to my car and placed the ticket on my dash. I also took a photo of it to have on my phone just in case. As I entered the building, I was greeted and told to remove my shoes. I get it, but the mat I had to walk on, while barefoot, was so dirty. I finally got my belongings and headed to the jury waiting room. The jury administrator was kind. I handed her my summons and she asked if I parked in "H". I told her I couldn't find it, but that I did self-pay in the lot across the street. Then, I took my seat. As more people entered, I kept hearing them say they too could not find "H". Phew! It wasn't just me. I heard at least 7 or 8 people say they couldn't find the free juror parking lot. We eventually were told about the process and due to the low number of cases, we would probably be released BEFORE lunch time. The judge swore us in and we started our long day of sitting. We were free to come and go and use devices. A bathroom is located directly outside the juror room. Down the hallway is a little area with multiple vending machines. I was surprised the prices weren't crazy expensive. One vending machine takes Apple Pay via your iPhone, so that was cool. The other machines took cash, coins, and credit cards. You are allowed to eat and drink in the juror room. In fact, most people had their own drinks they brought along with backpacks, and a couple people even had a lunch kit. I had no idea you could bring all that. I will be more prepared next time. As lunch time came and we were all still there, we were dismissed for an hour to get a bite to eat. A food service called Fooda was in the vending machine area with 3 types of chicken options at $15.14 each after tax. The serving portion was large, but the taste was not that great. I got the curry chicken. Maybe I should have gotten something else. We returned to the room for more waiting. No one ever got called and we finally got released at 3:10 PM. All this for traffic court and only $6.00 paid for the service. After my gas, mileage, time away from work, parking at $10.00, 2 waters at $2.00 each, lunch at $15.14, and my snack at $1.35, a $6.00 pay is insulting. And again, all for traffic court?? The people who don't want to pay their ticket put all of our day on hold. Maybe I don't understand it fully, so maybe it should be explained better. My suggestion would be to have the free parking more identifiable, fix your meters, lower the price of parking if not using the free lot, clean the entrance mat, offer free bottled water, offer one free snack in AM and one free snack in the PM, lower the price of your lunch service, and up the price on what is paid to the juror. My time is valuable as I know everyone else's is too. It's a hard hit on people who are trying to do the right thing.

The officer showed no understanding or compassion and immediately acted in a dismissive and impatient manner. I understand that officers have a job to do, but I believe people should still be treated with basic respect and given an opportunity to speak. The entire interaction felt unfair and one-sided, which left me very frustrated and disappointed.

She seems to abuse her power with belittling people. You will regret going to this court 100%! Please let's all vote in December 2026 so no one has to be treated like this. We are all the same and should be treated the same. She is never on time to court and leaves you sitting for hours waiting on her. Your not allowed to use your cell phone and have to sit on that hard bench starring into space waiting for her and its really gross misconduct. This is being filed with the bar as well. Please listen for its the truth and nothing but the truth, RUN!

I respectfully told the judge that, because of my faith, I could not swear an oath. Instead of being allowed to affirm (which is my legal right ) I was removed from the courtroom and my case wasn't heard. I broke down outside the courtroom room doors. No matter how you feel about someone else's religious beliefs it's not okay to disrespect someone. The officer outside saw me crying and he helped me. Such a gentlemen. I've never experienced anything like that before. I walked in calm, polite, and ready to explain my situation, but I was treated like I didn't matter. It's painful when you try to stand by your faith and end up being punished for it. I hope the court takes this seriously and ensures that everyone, no matter their beliefs, is treated with respect and understanding. I'm sharing my experience so that others know they are not alone if something similar happens to them.

Renewing your vehicle registration is normally very easy. Unless your plates are 7 years old and…read moreyou need new ones. Then you need to come to the courthouse to renew. Except if you've got custom tags. Yes, they'll give you your new registration sticker, but you won't be getting your new plates. Those have to be mailed to you. After waiting in a [cough] ungodly-long line for about 20 minutes, an employee was walking through the line to check everyone's paperwork. When I told her what I was there for, she informed me that after an over 2-hour wait, I'd get my registration sticker today, but not my required new plates. TIP: She told me to go home and renew my registration online (www.texas.gov). That way I'd get both my new plates and registration sticker AND I'd save myself a whole lot of time. Walked out, drove home and renewed online in about 5 minutes. I then had the rest of my afternoon to enjoy myself!

I had all my paper work and upon speaking to someone they informed me that I can go online to make an appointment which is cool. Yet, they don't tell you that it's all booked for like 2 months out at EVERY LOCATION (ridicules). I went back to the lady and said as much and she verbally says "oh, well you can be a walk-in on Mon., Tues., Thurs., & Friday between 8am to 12:30pm but it's best to arrive right at 8am". LIKE WHY NOT SAY THAT! instead these people who are turning people away and not informing them of their walk-in policy so that they can get their transfers done. WHO has 2 months to wait when the state requires a 30 day change????? Make that make sense! Title transfers are not an option to do online or by mail, it HAS to be done in person. SMH, if I would not have asked these people would not have told me about this; AND how YOU GONNA HAVE AN ATTITUDE BECAUSE I ASK A QUESTIONS??? it's your job to inform the people coming/going regarding all things related to this office. Some people just give shitty service (not all) but like how are we suppose to know the walk-in rule if you are not telling anyone?

Not only did I need to transfer tags but I also needed to do a vehicle transfer and increase insurance coverage, which complicated things. I explained that my husband who was still out of state was transferring the vehicle to me. She explained that he would need to get the gift affidavit notarized and he could email it. Left feeling well informed and ready to get this done. The second time, a different clerk informed me that I was missing the original gift affidavit. The previous clerk failed to inform me that I needed all original documents! Needless to say I was furious, especially because I was starting work the following week would need to request time to address this. People say third time is the charm and in this case it was. I made it 5 minutes before they closed on a Friday...made it right on time. I was anxious and praying for no hiccups. I was lucky to have been helped by Jamie! She was surprised by all the notes on my cover page and assured that she would help me as best she could to get it done. She had a positive attitude, engaged in a small conversation, and overall very helpful...definitely didn't expect that on a Friday five minutes before closing for a long holiday weekend. She made this overall process pleasant despite the miscommunication. Thank you Jamie for superb customer service!
