I actually decided it would be OK to check out, as from the road it appeared very well kept. The owner Mark was very friendly and accomodating. Although the motel probably dates back to the 60's or 70's, eveything was very clean and in perfect working order. It was comfortable and quiet, and served our purpose well while working a contract at a local hospital. Will stay again if the needs arise!!!

We live in a rural small town so we took advantage of some shopping while in civilization (Syracuse). We had too much to carry back on the plane so we arranged shipping and Diane took care of it. Even contacted us to let us know our packages were picked up. You won't believe it but she even helped me pack the boxes fussing over our stuff just like my mom would have! I seriously love this lady!!!! We have travelled plenty and have never experienced warmth and hospitality like at Diane's place. We are looking for excuses to travel back to the area so we can stay at Madison Bed, Book & Candle again. It will definitely be one of our family "get away and relax" spots. I bought some of Diane's crochet baby blankets, ponchos, scarfs, hats, etc. They are lovely and very reasonably priced. I wanted some in other colors and she made them and shipped them to me, after helping me pick the colors. If you stay with her ask to see her work. It's worth it. Stay here. Don't look anywhere else. Diane will take great care of you with all the personal touches of home and then some. I just can't say enough.

We stayed here for my husband's high school reunion and found it convenient (right on Route 20), comfortable, and quite charming! We stayed in the Nathaniel Hawthorne Room. This room overlooks Highway 20 and does get some traffic noise, so if you' re a light sleeper this might not be the room for you ... but with the windows closed and the air conditioner on low, we could barely hear the occasional car or truck go by. We heartily second the other reviewer's comment that the rooms were spotlessly clean and well appointed. And to top it off, she has free wi-fi access in all the rooms. Our hostess, Diane, made fresh lemonade for us to sip on the spacious side porch and made a delicious batch of fudge brownies for us to munch on. Breakfast was also delightful - fresh kiwi fruit and strawberries as a garnish with light, fluffy pancakes, bacon, and enough coffee to keep me happy. Yesterday's breakfast was also good - poached eggs on a lightly toasted english muffin with bacon and fresh fruit. We arrived just before the start of the annual Madison-Bouckville Antique Week festival (which is less than 2 miles down the road from the inn). Although we aren't into antiques, our fellow guests have a booth there ... they told us that this was their 4th straight year of staying here - a testament to Diane's hospitality. Prices are in line with what we expect to pay for a bed and breakfast with a private bath (there is another B&B on the road to Hamilton that's less expensive, but I understand it does not have a private bathroom) All in all, we had a very pleasant stay (and my husband even enjoyed his reunion!).

Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the area. During our week's vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Lake Otsego in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. Pure Americana from a time that relects our grandparents era of when vacationing upstate and in the Catskills was a big thing. The building itself and the rustic decor reminds me of a hunting and fishing lodge. American flags, wood everywhere, log furniture, hunting/fishing instruments on the walls, checkers game on the table, all types of outdoorsy articles and sporting things placed around, an amazing view overlooking the lake, and the most wonderful outdoor deck to enjoy it on. We were greeted by the owner, Peter, and he gave us a quick tour of the place. There are spacious grounds with gas grills and picnic tables, a beach area for swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing right on the lake. They also will provide fishing gear for guests. I saw a canoe, pedal boat and kayaks that can be used free of charge. You can even get boat tours and fishing charters here. There is a free laundry room on site which is great if you're there with kids and cleaning some clothes is a must. Also some foosball, pinball and other games to occupy some time. Every morning a full complimentary breakfast is provided to all guests. All the rooms are newly refurbished with private baths and Adirondack décor. Cable TV in all rooms and free wifi throughout. AC units in the rooms too, but it can actually get cool enough at night so that you don't need it. Plus, they are located just 4 miles from Cooperstown, 4 miles from the Glimmerglass Festival, and 9 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park so everything is a quick drive. Reasonable room rates for all this make it a terrific deal. I have to say the rooms are well kept, clean, and very cozy. Peter is a very attentive and affable resort owner who cares about his guests and makes sure they have everything needed for a great stay. One of the highlights for me was just getting up early each morning to have a hot cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. So relaxing and peaceful. At night we sat out there under a blanket and drank wine. Another was the option of a home cooked meal here on a Saturday night on the deck prepared by Peter and his friendly staff. Shrimp cocktail, crab and corn chowder, char broiled delmonico steak, and dessert. Delicious meal. (Extra charge for this but so worth the price.) Oh, can't forget that yummy breakfast quiche and fresh fruits the next day before we had to sadly head home. Overall, just a wonderful place and one of the best spots we stayed at during our vacation. Great memories. If you're looking for a more simpler place to rest your head at that brings you back to a time when upstate resort vacations were big then you should experience Cobblescote. A beautiful 15 minute drive to the ballpark and the most accommodating hosts ever! Rooms clean, well-appointed and we were lucky enough to get one with a view :) Genevieve offered a wonderful breakfast each morning and the view from the open-air deck could not be beat! Great way to start each day. Plenty of amenities offered for couples or families: games, kayaks, paddle boat, bbq, fridge, microwave, laundry facility, to name just a few. All the comforts of home, which made it a perfect place to land for 8 days! Was fun to get to know the hosts (Genevieve, Mary, Peter & Clayton), as well as other guests. This place is a hidden gem and does not disappoint!

But if you're a weary traveler looking for an inexpensive place to have a hot shower and sleep for the night, you'll want something more name-brand. Trust me. The extra $10 you save by staying here is NOT WORTH IT. Not even for the free nightmares and hair left behind by the cleaning staff. Just driving up to this place gave me the urge to Yelp it, and that desire only got stronger the longer I stayed, which ended up not being very long because the smoke smell of the (non-smoking) room and the overdry air from the non self-regulating heater had me completely dried out within hours, the bed was scratchy, and I had the distinct feeling that the man in the room next to ours who bragged that he lives in this place for weeks at a time was hard at work packaging for transport either stolen goods or a body. Not interested in my belongings or my person being added to his inventory, I left six hours after I arrived, turning in my key to a silent, surly woman on my way out. Don't let this hotel happen to you. Go anywhere else. ANYWHERE ELSE. You won't regret it.
