Once he went back to school I had tried to cancel in late July only to be persuaded to pause for a month to see if he still would need services. I asked his teachers and they said he made great progress, but additional services would not likely be needed, especially since they cost $250/mo! I went on their site to see how to cancel online and it lead me to deleting my account since the link it says to go to to cancel just has information on how to pause or change your current account. When trying to delete your account is a 2 month process, no matter how good the services are, I cannot in good conscience recommend them. Do better Varsity Tutors, do better

We found Joe's name the weekend before the last test so time was short but Joe went out of his way to rearrange his schedule to work with us. After his first session with Joe, my son told me that he learned more in that hour than in 12 weeks with his classroom teacher and that many of the pieces were falling into place. He made a big improvement on the test and did not have to retake it as he had on several previous ones. He continued with the sessions and made an 82 on the semester midterm. During that time, he would take up the whole day whereas everyone else completed their assessments within 4 hours. Fortunately, my mother and I found Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep on Thumbstack. Chris was very quick at responding back to my emails. Within a few days, he introduced us to India. She served as my younger brother's tutor for a month up until the day before the actual STAAR reading test. Within the first meeting, she assessed my brother and determined how many hours per week he required to gain maximum help. During the tutoring sessions, she tried her very best to make it fun and interactive for my brother to learn new reading and writing skills. She also communicated with the teacher in order to accommodate her lessons with his reading performance in school. Within the third week, he successfully answered 27 out of 38 questions correctly during another mock STAAR reading test. While going over his exam, I noticed all the analytical notes my brother took alongside each reading passage. He then proceeded to tell me how they greatly helped him answer the more difficult questions. Overall, there were several aspects that I greatly liked about Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep: 1. Chris informed my mother and I about the financial matters behind their services prior to the first session with India 2. India always informed me whenever she was running late and always made up by staying in a few minutes extra 3. Compared to the more expensive tutoring services in Houston, their prices made it easier for my mother to afford additional tutoring sessions with India 4. My mother and I found it very convenient that they offer at-home tutoring sessions. India provided consistent tutoring sessions that worked well around our schedules 5. India usually supplied additional homework that further helped my brother gain reading tactics necessary to pass the STAAR test 6. Everyone from Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep are very professional and courteous. When we unenrolled him I made an appointment with the director that was rescheduled with 30 minutes notice. When I showed up later at the rescheduled time the director wasn't there and it took 40 minutes for her to finally show up. She asked how my son was doing and I told her about his failing grade and she basically rushed the "meeting" to get me out the door. There was no concern, nothing. As far as her "working with" the teachers to better support my child that never happened. Disappointing doesn't even cover it. I have since contacted Jamie Sincata to speak about our experience twice and she has said both time Tom, the owner, would be reaching out. It's been two weeks and that still hasn't happened. Save your money and time, go elsewhere.

But Baodi? Baodi taught -- not just lectured. His teaching style actually made the concepts click in my brain like Tetris pieces. He broke things down in a way that made even the most intimidating material (I'm looking at you, Earned Value formulas) feel like common sense. But more than that, Baodi cared. When I was overwhelmed and freaking out over the test, he stayed behind after class just to encourage me, calmly talk me through it, and give me solid pointers. That's the kind of human he is.
