First, this is not my first PMP training. I trained with another company, and while that instructor was adequate and the material OK, other companies apparently focus on collecting money rather than training their clients to be successful. Second, here is what PMA does better: 1. The condensed laminated cards...concise enough to provide all the key elements in the exam, well-formatted, and portable that I could take them anywhere to study. 2. PMA's website is far easier to navigate. Can be navigated using a tablet or a smartphone, and includes the same cards 3. Instructor...Jackie Ockleberry. This maybe a personal preference, but I found her to be professional and non-critical. Her advice was spot-on. She explained what PMA required for the warranty, but recommended that all the students exceed the requirement and take one extra Practice Exam and shoot for scores above 80. She also personally recommended (to me) that I take the time up to my deadline (which was 11 July) to schedule the exam (I chose Monday because I knew it fit my schedule best). NOTE: To fulfill their warranty, the "other" company kept pushing for me to take the exam sooner than I was ready, and I failed it twice. PMA and Ms Ockleberry is focused on quality and success. Also, her knowledge and simplicity on EVM easily helped me answer 6 questions correctly on this last PMP exam. In fact, I feel comfortable enough to teach others in my program EVM and when to use it appropriately. 4. Last, if you couldn't tell already, PMAs business practice! I never felt ready when I took the exam the first two times. It was very frustrating, and I ultimately parted ways with them...and they wouldn't honor the refund because I refused to take the exam a third time in the timeframe they wanted. Ridiculous. Their focus was on collecting payment and protecting their warranty. Also, when I researched companies to take the training in June 2013, I ignored red-flags then because the "other PMP training company" was not forecoming about their warranty and expectations leading into their course. With PMA, I reviewed other recipients through various independent online blogs. Since other PMP individuals had consistent success through PMA, I now know why. Whether you take PMA or not, my sincere recommendation is to apply online with PMI first and acquire a copy of the PMBoK 5th Edition, and take a month to review it first because these training sessions are strictly a boot-camp to prepare you for the exam. When you are ready for the boot-camp, I highly advise you choose PMA, and the San Antonio site (hotel) is in north San Antonio, so if you live in Austin like I do it is relatively inexpensive to stay and navigate around. I took the Project Management Academy Boot Camp with Michael Martin in February 2019 to prepare for my PMP certification exam. I cannot say enough good things about the PMA course and Michael. I have no idea how I would have tackled preparation and studying on my own. I highly recommend this course. The course provides a logical framework to follow to study the materials and fully walks you through it in four days so you understand all of the concepts. Michael made it so easy, and enjoyable, to take it all in and taught in a way that really made it stick. At the end of the boot camp you will take a mock exam and as I took it I encountered questions that I only knew the answer to because I recalled a story Michael told or a technique he had taught us for remembering the term or concept. After the course you certainly have more work to do to be prepared for the exam, but Michael laid out exactly how to tackle the studying and all of the tools available through PMA for studying and practicing. He didn't just teach materials, he taught us how to take the exam and what to expect on exam day, and how to apply to PMI to be approved to schedule the exam. In the five weeks post boot camp I was able to secure my approval to schedule the exam, study study study, and pass the exam within above target ranges in every section, and earn my certification. I highly recommend this boot-camp for anyone who is serious about obtaining their PMP. Leader, Mike Martin provided an environment that was not only engaging and educational, but also lighthearted and memorable which helped tremendously when plowing through the "Planning" Process Group. Mike also "dove a little deeper" into the possible "gotchas" that might pop up during the exam. It was clear that Mike's goal was to ensure that the concepts were clarified and understood and that we remained focused on the daily boot-camp objectives. What I appreciated most is that Mike embodies not only the PMI Code of Ethics but also PMI's willingness to continue to improve. Mike Martin is very encouraging, yet he still ensured that we understood that we had to put in the time to follow the plan of attack for studying, testing and reviewing. He pointed out all the tools that PMA made available to us and provided his contact info if we STILL had questions. Mike also gave us a time-frame within which we should schedule our exam in order to maximize the benefit of the boot-camp, which paid off for me. I was on the extreme edge of latest date, but I followed ALL his advice and took every Q&A "quiz" and Practice Exam, etc before taking the exam. I passed my first attempt!!! I plan to pursue my master's certificate over the next couple years and you can bet that I will use PMA (and Mike, if he's available) to get me across the line. read more

Michael Martin was my instructor and he was awesome. He really wanted to make sure everyone in his class passed the Project Management Professional PMP exam. I recently took and passed my PMP Certification. I put in a lot of self-study prior to my test and also hugely recommend the Project Management Academy. PMA's Boot Camp and online materials were instrumental to my success. I want to specifically highlight Mike Martin for his tremendous insights and guidance. Mike facilitated the Boot Camp I attended prior to my PMP test. He is obviously an experienced PMP, but moreover he did an excellent job leading my class through a lot of material in a way that kept it fresh, relevant, and interesting. I took the PMP class on Dec 5 thru Dec 8, 2016 @ Austin, Texas. I took the exam a month after and passed. I would like to thank our trainer, Phillip Jackson, Sr. - He was very knowledgeable, delivered the content with clarity and with examples from his experiences. He was very helpful during and after the class as well (I had to trouble him couple of times to clarify a topic and he was helpful and timely with his responses). I am from Software industry and he would give me examples from the industry to help understand/relate concepts better. I couldn't imagine myself sitting in the class for 4 straight days, but our instructor made it very interactive and kept it lively with his style. After the class I felt I was prepared and ready to take the exam within a week (however, my application was picked for audit and it delayed the process) - such was the impact of the course materials' quality and our instructor. I took the PMA Virtual Bootcamp with Baodi Ngo. He was simply amazing. He took real life instances and showcased them with the content that we were learning. He had high energy, infinite knowledge and phenomenal focus. He was extremely patient and really cared about us understanding every aspect of this course. He made everything so much easier to comprehend, especially if this wasn't your field. I can only imagine what it would be like to take a class in person with him. Took the class in April 2016 with Phillip J. Phillip was an outstanding instructor who used a nice balance of book knowledge with real world experiences. He also was able to give very helpful hints & tips from test taking to effective studying which were invaluable. The combination of Phillip's in-class instruction as well as the PMA training materials were instrumental in my passing the exam on the first attempt. The PMA has a well-organized learning portal which has numerous training tools which track your progress and strengths/weaknesses. The portal allows you to access your training materials at any time. There's also many in-class training materials and study guides that were very helpful. Overall, I highly recommend this course. Completed the Project Management Academy PMBOK 6 PMP Boot Camp in April 2018. Michael Martin was the instructor. Those who are working on their PMP Certification know the material is beyond overwhelming. Mike is an EXCELLENT instructor. He was able to take the PMBOK6 material and organize it in a way that made sense. If anyone is thinking about taking the PMP Certification Boot Camp I highly recommend taking it onsite from The Project Management Academy and look for a class where you can have Mike Martin as the instructor. My experience with the PMA PMP Exam Test Prep course was better than I could have predicted. Baodi Ngo was an incredible instructor with great online presence. The lessons never felt boring or lost my attention, real life scenarios were applied for better understanding of topics, key topics were pointed out as "things to know for the exam" or "you will see a question related to this". The entire course was extremely helpful and I already feel better prepared to take the exam. I was part of the PMA, PMP Exam Preparation class of 16th/19th May 2016. The course content/materials was adequate and the facilitator, Phillip Jackson Jr., presentation style and his use of "key words" for ease of understanding was unique. I found the progress review sessions and the project illustrations given using real life situations during our very warm and interactive group discussions very helpful. The facilitator also, demonstrated good knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. The exercises and strategy guide, configurable Q&A, quizzes, and mock exams are absolutely top-notch and incredibly helpful. I had started studying for the PMP exam on my own and felt like I was getting no where. It is just such a comprehensive topic and a tricky exam. I decided to take the PMP Exam Course Prep Boot Camp and I feel so much better about tackling studying. They offer a ton of study guides and resources as well as amazing instruction. Definitely worth the money. I was luckily to have signed up for a class lead by Baodi Ngo because he was fantastic. I took the two weekend- 10 hour back to back days, and had no problem staying engaged and focused. He managed to balance heavy content with real life examples that were easy to digest and relatable. All the instructors are probably great but I highly recommend Baodi! I feel so much more prepared and ready for the exam after taking the classes. Choose Baodi, he'll set you up for success! I took his PMP bootcamp in April 2024 over two weekends. He was very interactive though out the courses getting to know each persons background and relating it throughout the course. As we learned the basics he would point out the most helpful things to know and explained what to expect in the exam. I am PLEASED with the Project Management Academy! I took the class in September, 2016 with Phillip Jackson, Sr. He stressed how to use the handouts and why. I found them to be very helpful memory aids and was glad that I used them. But what I loved best was the way he gave illustrations that drove home the point he was making.
