I happened to find Hederman's Smokehouse on Google maps when I was planning my Cork itinerary. The plan was to go to Fota Wildlife Park in the morning, and stop at Hederman's Smokehouse on the way to Cobh, since it was along the route. We stopped in on a Tuesday at around 2 PM. It seems they do mostly wholesale and private tastings/tours of the smokehouse, but they did have a few options for some small plates. We went with the Smoked Salmon & Pate (€15). At the time, there were two pâtés to choose from, and they'll let you have a sample before you pick. The plate comes with brown bread, pickles, pickled onions, and crème fraiche. We were happy with it - it seemed like good quality. It would have been so cool to do the tasting/tour, but it was a bit pricey, and we didn't have too much time in Cork. If we hadn't been traveling to Dublin next, where our hotel had no fridge, I probably would have purchased a few items to bring home. Maybe next time! read more
