With Tallis in hand I found a comfortable seat in a comfortable, and pretty sanctuary. I am a capable participant, and I enjoy the choreography of a crisp traditional service. I also like when there is room for people to grow Jewishly. For today members of the community had prepared and chanted beautifully from the Book of Ruth. There was a nice rhythm to the service. It ended by 12pm. People sang together. How nice that the Rabbi Emeritus is a welcome member of the congregation. The current Rabbi has a beautiful singing voice and seems to be a good leader. He read Torah today. He read fast, pronouncing the words correctly...not so concerned about perfect trop...(love it). I was a guest. Most of the people did not know me. Even so, they bestowed upon me the honor of holding the Torah during Yizkor. For middle of the week, attendance was not terrible. I recommend joining the congregation if you are in the area. Yorktown Heights is beautiful, too.

Everyone was happy. The new building is spacious, modern, yet cozy. The congregants were very welcomming. The Rabbi (on the young side with 3 young children) seemed very affable and had a great singing voice. (I latter learned he had been a Cantor.) The service was relaxed and surprisingly engageing. (At least it surprised me.) We were searching for a synaguge mainly for our 2 boys then 6 and 8. To be continued - My son now 11 is requesting the computer to play his games.

Our two daughters became b'not mitzvah and confirmed here, and they stayed on through Hebrew High School. I have been especially active in Temple life, attend Torah Study weekly, have been the Brotherhood co-president, served on the Board of Trustees some time ago and again for the last three years, on the Building Committee, and I'm now a VP. Admittedly, I'm biased, but for good reason. I can't say enough how warm and welcoming this Temple community is, starting with our incredible Rabbi Jaech, Cantor Ellerin, Director of CJL (Center for Jewish Learning) Guy Felixbrodt, musical director Eddie Pleasant, teachers, Temple leadership, office and custodial staff, many, many volunteers, Youth Group, and of course, congregants. We have an amazing music program including award winning accompanist Dina Pruzhansky, several bands, adult and teen choirs. Shabbat and High Holy Days services are very moving and engaging, and the choir is amazing. There is an extremely active Brotherhood and Sisterhood, Social Justice and Adult Education committees. The Brotherhood organizes Midnight Runs during the cold months. Adult learning is vitally important, and there are many educational programs, during the day, evening and Shabbat. Our location is quite beautiful, tucked away on the top of Mt. Airy. The physical environment within the Temple building is not ostentatious, but comfortable and inviting, with a newly renovated Community Room. I strongly encourage anyone looking for comfort in Judaism to join us on a Friday night, or at any of our programs. If your interested in learning about an orthodox service without being overwhelmed by mostly Hebrew speakers come here and the congregation will help you until your ready ask the rabbi. The congregation loves to keep up to date on how the New York Yankees Baseball team are doing at kiddish after Shabbot services. We agree to disagree on politics, but as we say put two Jewish people in a room you come out with three opinions.
