My wife and I always get a small memorabilia tattoo when vacationing of something that stood out to us during our trip. Heatstroke was close to our resort and they stated walk-ins were welcomed when we called. Our tattoos were small so we were advised that an appointment was not needed. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Credit cards are accepted with a 3% service fee added. Indoors is clean and filled with a bunch of cool collectibles. My review would be much higher if our time was respected. We walked in about 30 minutes after opening on a Friday. We were assigned to Jimmi who did not have anyone scheduled with him. We each received a 30-minute tattoo; however, we were in the shop for close to four hours. Jimmi was constantly distracted by his girlfriend, phone calls and conversations. Jimmi did a nice job on my wife's hiking boot print and on my palm tree. Jimmi charged us an outrageous price of $200 each, knowing full well that we were out of town. I have over 200 tattoos, 5 piercings, and have been getting body beautification for over 35 years. I have been to the dregs of the harbor towns, and the upper echelons of affluent communities. I was only an observer (twice) at Heat Stroke - and I have to say - the things I saw were upsetting, unprofessional, and dangerous. The staff show up when they feel like it, even after promising the client a time and date. In some cases the shop employees don't even know when an artist will be there. My observations were: *Overly decorated studio with dust collecting on Knick-knacks, statues and the like. An impossible task to keep clean under any circumstances. *Little-to-no greeting when entering - one just stands there like a zombie until someone remembers that the customer is how they get paid, and then the attitude is like you're inconveniencing them by even being there. *A piercer (supposedly the owner?) who leaves his break outside to come in and do a piercing without washing his hands, putting on gloves, or prepping the piercing site with any kind of disinfecting agent or cleanser. Also, missing the 'sweet spot' on a septum piercing and just wildly poking through the thickest part of the cartilage, when the spacer tool sits ignored on the tray. *An obvious 'chip-on-the shoulder' when people leave bad reviews. Instead of using constructive criticism to better themselves, they just fire back with an attitude and nothing changes. *Reptiles in a terrarium in the waiting area with no proper purification or cage ventilation - a breeding ground for surface bacteria such as: Toxoplasmosis, Salmonella, Mycobacterium, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Serratia and Flavobacterium meningosepticum. *Not a smile in the place - EVER. It is one thing to carry the anarchist attitude and be a bad a$$ as a tattoo/piercing artist - let's face it - it's the vibe you expect in these types of places; but I have seen many, many tattoo and piercing artists who smile frequently because they love their customers, they love their work, and they love their workspace. These folks just look downright miserable. I hope they are able to 'transfer out,' and find a shop somewhere that treats them better, and gives them the opportunity to shine - and above all - be happy. I saved the dumbest for last: this one framed photograph of some young woman (presumably someone from the shop) holding a large-caliber semi-automatic pistol, pointed at the camera. First, it's a cheap pistol. Second, her grip is all wrong and it's obvious when the photo was taken she had no clue how to hold a firearm. Third, her finger is ON the trigger, not rested on the side of the weapon (not a safe situation for the photographer). I understand the desire to come off like some kind of gangsta-bada$$, but I don't really want to be in a shop where one of the employees wants to shoot me in the face. read more

I never had a different piercing shop to compare Heatstroke to until now. After going to a different piercing shop I have realized Heatstroke needs to reflect on their business practices. To start, when I got pierced there for my second lobes, they used a gun to pierce them. Secondly, they strongly recommended for me to buy an oil for my nose stud piercing bump. I feel like it is pretty well known that piercing guns are not the way to go, and the best way to get rid of piercing bumps are to clean it often with saline spray and to leave it alone. Doing things the more easy and unsafe way while also trying to upsell your products and make a quick buck is not cool. Also one of the piercers literally asked if I was sure I was from the Coachella Valley? Racist and very unprofessional. I was speechless, to say the least. read more

DONT GO TO SLOMO INK :) Apparently I paid SloMo Ink $650 for 1/3 of my tattoo. If you take a look at the entire text thread that's time stamped, you'll notice I had to reach out to him multiple times before he'd respond. It would usually take days but then it took weeks of him ignoring me. He blamed me for cutting our first session short saying he could've finished the wolf. My leg hurt, and I wanted to go to dinner. How does that somehow justify that you did not respond to me?? He lacks professionalism, is unable to communicate, lacks common sense, common decency and apparently the ability to acknowledge and recognize when he has done something wrong. The most annoying thing, is that his ONLY response when other people are talking is "all dead and shit" like literally every 5 minutes, and i was sitting there for 4 hours. Also, how am I watching him like a hawk because i saw one instagram video you posted? you obviously got defensive because you definitely lied about burning your hand. I feel like I should file a small claims against SloMo ink, will he be able to provide documents he actually went to the hospital? So there's another thing needing to be questioned. I went in not too long ago to get a septum piercing at heatstroke. I did see some reviews on peoples experiences, some good, some bad, but I gave Steve the benefit of the doubt to let him be the one to pierce my septum. Biggest mistake. I went in with my boyfriend and decided to get it pierced. Once we got to sit down for him to pierce it,he than said "remove your mask", he also asked to take a picture after he pierced it and that's all he really said to us. I had to ask questions cause he wasn't really saying much to us. He pierced it but it hurt like hell and it was hella high up but it was my first time getting a face piercing so I assumed it would hurt, but the pain lasted all night I couldn't sleep that well. I couldn't even move the piercing because of how bad it was, he also told me I was only supposed to clean it with water and that's it. We payed and left. It hurt so bad, even the days after I could berly move it. I texted him asking how to take care of it because it was hurting too much, he answered like 15 hrs later saying "Yes you can move it if need be, but I don't recommend you messing with it." I wasn't messing with it I just wanted to clean it better. I live in San Diego, but my boyfriend lives in Coachella valley, so I went with a piercer over there and they told me he had pierced my cartilage and that I needed to take it out immediately or my nose will get droopy. My nose still hurts went it's pushed back. I really wanted this piercing so I went to a different piercer and they took a look at it and they said the same, that he had pierced my cartilage, but they re-pierced it in the correct spot and let me say, it felt so different. It hurt going in, after though, I felt no pain, I was able to sleep good, they even told me to clean it with antibacterial soap, and when i told them Steve said to not clean it with anything they were shocked. I texted steve and asked for a refund but he again didn't answer until the next day and he said "it blows my mind you didn't come see me first, I have perfected my techniques", and said "maybe it wasn't me who pierced? someone else in the shop maybe did it". I said that I was sure it was steve and I just wanted a refund because I had to take it out. We went in to get our money back and he did give it to us but he also gave us a lecture saying "I will give u a refund cause i'm a cool guy, but you should've came to me about the piercing i'm a professional" I literally texted him and he never answered, I didn't really know what else to do but to go in person. I do not recommend going here for a piercing. Your body is super important not something to be playing around with. Any face piercing needs to be pierced well. I was already super scared going for a septum, but the experience I had here was just not great. Would not recommend. read more

I waited almost 2 years to write this review because I wanted to make sure that my results would last and I could honestly recommend the service I received to someone else. I suffered from migraines since early in childhood and at the end of 2019 I had my worst streak. I do not like to medicate myself and found that the daith piercing was a great option. Steve was my piercer and did an amazing job! While he could not guarantee anything, he gave me a perfectly placed piercing and had the calmest demeanor which helped my nerves through the process. I'm so happy to say that my migraines decreased by about 95%!! I used to get them a few times a month and now I get them a few times a year!!!!! Went today to get my septum pierced. Was happy that the piercer was efficient and quick, but there was some things that seemed off. First was that they weren't too friendly, seemed like they wanted me and my s/o to get out quickly. He didn't speak to us about the process or go through the process during the piercing. Other experiences at other shops im used to shops using MORE during the cleaning process as well as iodine, it was not used in this case. Was also expecting after care instructions as well as saline spray to be included OR at least recommended, so for someone going for their first piercing I would be cautious. The owner of the shop got in touch with me and offered for me to come in for a free touch-up that the artist should've scheduled me for. And offered $100 off. That is excellent customer service. However when contacting the artist to set up a time, he said (I won't charged you for the touch up like I normally do) wtf..you weren't suppose to charge me in the first place! For someone who has done tattooing for 6 years did not do a very good job for $500. The lines are uneven, the dot work is uneven. I understand this is a hard spot to work on. But this tattoo is not worth what I paid. And it pisses me off because when setting up the appointment he asked me what my budget was..all he saw was $$$$$.
