Sunday lunchtime and this place was packed and with a long queue. We had been told the pies here were good. They also had a McDonalds across the road which usually takes a bit of custom away. We were unimpressed with the food. The pies were OK and the pastries were a bit on the small size but OK. Considering the price they were charging, they could have been much better. An odd indicator was that there were no birds around to eat the pastry...I hoped they weren't in the pies On the positive side, we were able to get a parking spot, and somewhere to sit down. The tables were wiped down regularly and most of the customers wore masks. We won't be back in a hurry as there are plenty of small cafes on and off the main drag that have better quality food and are value for money. read more

I admit I always stop at this place on my way North and then again heading south and to home Pies are freshly made daily and taste delicious just like a home made version , parking is pretty much always available if not at the shop then across the road where you enter Bathroom are always clean and they are open 7 days a week pretty much 365 days a year They also make a great coffee with plant based milk available As well as the great range of pies they have a beautiful selection of pastries lamingtons and doughnuts The Vanilla slice is amazing ! Plenty of dine in space available with covered outside dining tables also available as well as bench style tables if you want to sit in the sun and enjoy your meal A great alternative to the usual fast food options that are spotted along the highway read more

Thought this baker, focused on pies, was A-OK. It's a popular restaurant in the area, and had a steady stream of people coming in and going out. It has the feel of a franchise location, but I'm reasonably certain it's a one-off location, privately owned. It's quite large with plenty of seating both inside and outside and lots of parking. You can order and sit to eat or get it to go, including family sized pies. Their selection of pies is good, and customer service was excellent. Overall, a good experience. Oh pies...how I love thee. On a recent camping trip up the coast, my friends from Newcastle suggested we stop at Heatherbraes to get a Family blueberry pie to have for dinner that night. OMG, now, at $9.80 for a giant pie, how can you really complain? But let me tell you, it was also delicious, especially when warmed up on a campfire and eaten on a cold night. Delicious! Now, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't travel from Sydney all the way up the friggin' coast to go here, but if it's only a little detour, DO IT! I also had a Ned Kelly pie for breakfast which has scrambled egg, bacon, and minced meat! :D Talk about a way to start off the day...now it had a great crust, and covered in tomato sauce it was pretty good. Won't lie though, I think my arteries started to clog up halfway and I had to throw it out, but it tasted damn good! Pleasant staff, no complaints. Pretty much halfway between Sydney and our destination in Port Macquarie, we were told this was the place to stop for lunch - and they weren't wrong. It's essentially the fast food version of pies - nothing fancy, but certainly with a simple charm. Your pies and sides are served on paper plates and trays, and you queue to order. The list of pies is quite long, so you've got a lot to choose from and you can have some sides (fries, mash, veggies etc) to fill you up some more. I really enjoyed my Jillaroo pie - just the right temperature inside to prevent a quick lunch stop from turning into a molten face melting experience. It seems everyone stops here about lunchtime, so expect it to be busy during those hours. Probably not worth a trip especially, but if you're driving past then this a great option for a cheap lunch or dinner. read more

Looking for a breakfast stop and coffee on the way back to Sydney and came across this gem. Great pies, cakes, donuts and 3.5 out of 5 coffee. Has bus and caravan parking as well if you need that. Hit really busy while we were there but they coped well. Outside tables as well. Booths inside - we like booths. read more
