From the moment I entered I felt welcomed: Maria looked at me, and the schedule, and called me by name. I asked if she was Sharon. No, she said, "I'm Maria." She pointed to her left. I said Sharon was really helpful the other day, meaning when I called for an appointment. Sharon led me to the medical room, took my blood pressure (120/74?), gave me an EKG. When she left I raised the curtain to check the view. Somehow the wide windows and trees make the freeway and onramp look attractive. While waiting, I skimmed the "Good Nutrition" brochure. When Yesenia arrived she gave me what I most want and need: information. Other professionals often just sit typing at the computer, silent. Yesenia kept me fully apprised; admitted she was consulting AI. That's okay with me, I said, as long as an intelligent mind is sorting the response. After having unresolved symptoms for several years, my PCP suggested I see a cardiologist. Since I was a previous patient in this office in 2023, I thought it made sense to return since they had a previous history with records. Unfortunately I was disappointed this time. I had some specific concerns I wanted to address and/or rule out and felt that very little effort was put forth to diagnose vague symptoms that I thought may be cardiac related. A medicine was prescribed that I was not tolerating and Dr. Shenkman did not suggest an alternative. She seemed a bit condescending in one of my appointments. When some follow up questions were addressed via the patient portal, an additional charge was incurred which was a bit disappointing but I accepted it. The final turnoff was the fact that my insurance changed and they weren't contracted with my insurance provider so they bluntly disabled my portal login and told me I could do cash pay only without insurance. I was still a patient though, irrespective of insurance or not. Very rude way to treat an established patient I thought. If you have heart disease, stents etc. Dr Shenkman might be a perfect match but for those of us that have other cardiac concerns, arrhythmias, Dysautonomia/POTS, Long COVID etc this not the right place to go. No referral was suggested either. No thank you. I won't be returning. read more

Easy to get a timely appointment. And the office staff is very friendly and puts you at ease. Seeing the doctor is almost scary because if you have a say 10am appointment, you will see Dr. Shenkman within -5 minutes or less. She has your medical records at hand, goes over everything, shares her concerns about your health and makes recommendations for additional tests, etc.. Dr. Shenkman is a really good doctor. By far, the best doctor in this country I've ever seen. Why do I say 'in this country'? Because she CARES. She takes her time and does a complete and thorough diagnosis, asking pertinent questions. Taking her time. Looking right at you and totally understanding. She does not wear a watch so she's not running against time like most doctors do and your 10 minutes are up. She is caring and intelligent. I found her because her listing is on a plant based website I follow. She is an athlete and vegan. My kind of gal. I have been to many cardiologist over the years, here and abroad. They all give me different views - take this, take that, get this surgery, get that surgery. My head was spinning. Am I a ticking time bomb? NO was her answer!!! Get pressure down. Let's try diet and exercise for a month and we'll go from there. Wow! I love this approach and prescription!!! Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Shenkman was different from other reviews. I felt dismissed and even with the mask covering most of her face I felt judged. After a brief visit she ordered a couple of standard tests which I was told came back normal. There was no suggestions for alternative ways to diagnose or remedy the chest pain I was experiencing. I wish I would have pushed or sought a second opinion at that time but I was discouraged. Now, 9 mos later, I found out I have a genetic heart disorder and will need a defibrillator. My goal here is to encourage everyone to advocate for yourself. If you know something is not right don't stop seeking answers. The two stars are for the great nostalgic music they had playing throughout the office that had me dancing in my seat and drifting down memory lane. read more
