Trace is an excellent teacher and a very nice person. I am enthusiastic to study real T'ai Chi with her! I divide T'ai Chi into three categories: Nursing Home T'ai Chi, New Age T'ai Chi, and Traditional T'ai Chi. Now at the age of 70, and openminded on metaphysical issues, I have no problem with the first two types. But I was looking for T'ai Chi as Trace teaches it , and couldn't be happier with Heartmind. I highly recommend you try it! To be clear, I don't want to suggest that T'ai Chi in Nursing Homes. or as part of a path to enlightenment cannot be beneficial. I am sure Trace can offer both groups fine instruction. But sometimes real quality instruction is hard to find. I looked for years to find an instructor that could accommodate my orthopedic issues and still be able to teach me real t'ai chi. And now I have found such a teacher. read more

I have been taking classes with Trace for several years. I have a number of physical issues and she always works with me to accommodate what I may or may not be able to do on any given day. She's very knowledgeable and goes out of her way to show me things that may help. I had surgery earlier this year and I was able to return to class relatively quickly as class is always a safe place to figure out what works and what does not and Trace takes the time to listen to what's going on and show me how to adjust my movements so that I am not overdoing it. She also has a great voice, so soothing to listen to during practice. Know that I am not a morning person but no matter how I feel when I get up Sunday morning, I do my best to get out of the house and get to class, as I always feel better when class is done. If you've ever considered the practice of Tai Chi or Qi Gong, I highly recommend Trace and Heart Mind Tai Chi. read more

Trace is an excellent instructor of Tai Chi. She has been teaching for many years and is a tremendously patient, friendly, wise teacher. I have been lucky enough to practice Tai Chi with her while I was at CalArts and now years later, I practice with her Sunday group. The practice of Tai Chi has benefits too numerous to mention and it has to be experienced to be understood. I wish that this site would allow me to add a plus or somehow rate higher than 5 stars. My written review will, hopefully somehow, make up for my inability to select higher than 5 stars for Trace and Heartmind T'ai Chi. Recently, my 8 year old daughter suffered a concussive injury to her head, in what we now know to be 2 places, which we didn't initially realize was anything serious, because after the initial shock, she jumped up, and went about as normal. A couple of days later, our normally very happy, and extremely vivacious 8 year old was writhing on the floor with pain, in her head, and in numerous other parts of her body. Primarily though, the pain centered around her head, her jaw, and occasionally shot out to her extremities. As most of us, with a child screaming in pain, we started by visiting the emergency room. They ordered lots of tests of blood, pictures of her head, etc. and were perplexed as to what was going on, and why the pain was in other areas, besides just her site of impact. They remained perplexed, even after 3 ER visits, and exams over the course of 3 weeks, with all types of "specialists," who never figured anything out, and the pain continued. She missed 3 weeks of school. As our worry continued, it occurred to me that Trace had done some classes in Tai Chi, with the kids at my daughter's school, so I mentioned the situation to her, and asked for her advice. Trace very generously offered her help. We went to her studio, and where she used her experience in healing using pressure points, knowledge of pain pathways, and relaxation, to successfully teach us to manage my daughter`s pain by ourselves, and very quickly. Over a couple of days, the pain became virtually non-existent, and my daughter began to become herself again; a task NOT accomplished by a single doctor that we`d visited. They were looking for ONE easy answer, in the form of a pill or a diagnosis, rather than dealing with my daughter's the whole self. Trace helped us to listen to my daughter's body, and to answer the pain in ways that helped to heal, AND reassure her. Additionally, Trace helped ME to deal with some of my own internalized stress, from just everyday life, AND from dealing with the month of uncertainty around my daughter's health. I am profoundly grateful to her, for the relief that she has brought to my family, for the heart and kindness that is reflected in the way she cares for others. It does not hurt that she is a tremendously skilled practitioner of the healing arts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. read more

This class is a revelation -- for anyone of any health or experience level. I suffer from asthma and diabetes and chronic stress and this soothing healing practice is a godsend. I have never left the class feeling anything but more centered energized and focused. Trace, the instructor, creates a warm and welcoming environment -- whether at the Sunday session at the nearby Aikido studio or at her gorgeous home garden studio, there is never a question of professionalism or atmosphere. I have been studying Qi Gong with Trace for over a year a now. I have always been a pretty physically strong person... confident to jump into any exercise class. I got very sick and when I recovered I was easily exhausted and weak. I needed a gentle class that allowed me to go at my own pace... that if I needed to sit down... it would be safe to do so. I cannot speak highly enough about Trace as a teacher or about the healing and strengthining practice of Qi Gong. Not only has it strengthened my health and stamina it has benifits I was not expecting. For anyone in a carreer where being nervous or anxious is a part of the gig, Qi Gong will give practicle effortless tools to ground yourself, to center and calm your nervous system.
