I'm sharing my experience so other pet owners can be aware. My dog had a grooming appointment at Heart and Paw. When we picked him up,instead of letting him walk out to us like normal, he was handed directly into our arms. At the time we didn't think much of it, but as soon as we got home he was clearly in pain and started limping. The limping lasted for about three weeks, which was very concerning for us. I called the clinic and asked if they could review their camera footage to see if anything might have happened during the grooming that could explain the issue. The manager later told me that they reviewed the tapes and did not see anything that explained how my dog may have gotten hurt. When I first called and explained that my dog was in a lot of pain, they initially told me they could see him the same day. However, after I mentioned that I might need to explore legal options regarding the situation, the appointment was canceled. That was extremely cruel because I had already explained that my dog was in significant discomfort. Because of this, I ended up taking my dog to another veterinarian for care because his actual clinic, Heart and Paw refused to see him. At the clinic where I took him afterward (Nippers Corner) they explained that when grooming is offered at their facility and a pet happens to get injured during the process, their veterinary team typically evaluates the pet right away and the owner is not charged for that visit. Hearing that made the situation even more frustrating for me because I felt like my concerns were not handled with the same level of care or responsibility at heart and paw. What was most disappointing to me was how defensive the situation felt and the lack of empathy from the manager when I was trying to figure out what happened and get help for my dog. Refusing Vet care to an animal is heartless. You should consider changing your name to heartless and paw. As a pet owner, you trust that your pet will be treated with care and that concerns will be taken seriously if something seems wrong. This place will not take responsibility for their actions and will show no empathy towards your pet. Based on my experience, I would encourage other pet owners to make sure their dog is able to walk normally and seems comfortable before leaving after an appointment. Unfortunately, the entire situation was very stressful for us and our dog. if you love and care about your pups, stay away from this place! read more

Heart + Paw has been an exceptional vet office. The staff members treat my pets as their own. They also show that they care and how much they love these animals through their actions. My animals have always been cared for in a respectful manner. The staff has gone out of their way to show kindness and compassion. They take their time to go over information if needed and make sure that I don't have any questions. I have become to feel like I am a part of the family. I love the doctors and highly recommend them to anyone that asks about vet clinics in the area. read more

The vets and techs are simply amazing. The care that they give animals and owners is beyond what is expected. my chow chow had a scheduled sedation at this place for a grooming I told the person who was giving me a consultation over my dog that I wanted some hair left but I did want her shaved. she did tell me that she was a vet and not a groomer...that I was OK with, but when it comes to nicking my dog it really makes me wonder if they used a shave guard to help protect my dog. On top of that my dog was never bathed after agreed to paying for her to be bathed. I even had to pay top dollar(650) or at least what they considered top dollar for her service...when it really should've been considered abused. now let me remind you a chowchow is a fluffy breed when thinking of a chow chow think an overgrown Pomeranian. read more

ANOTHER EDIT: My new vet was able to diagnose my cat with Miliary Dermatitis within a single visit. He knew right off the bat that none of the medications that Apache Trail tried would have ever worked on my girl. Clavamox drops (prescribed 2/15), Clindrops Oral (prescribed 2/17), and Clindamycin Capsules (prescribed 2/18), do absolutely nothing for Miliary Dermatitis as it is not an infection. Again, my new vet right away knew that no antibiotic would treat this. The Clavamox Drops cost me $44.38, the Clindamycin Capsules cost me $15, and the Clindrops (even though I requested all of my invoices from them, they NEVER sent me the invoice that includes the Clindrops on them, but from what you can find online, that is approximately $10). I was put out almost $70, SEVENTY dollars by a vet that could not diagnose the condition, even though it is very common. Also, if your animal is getting any sort of vaccines or labs done, they charge a $7 biohazard disopsal fee each visit for sharps. No other vet in my career of owning animals (I have used at least 5 vets), has EVER charged this, and they did not disclose this prior. Again, RUN. There are hidden fees with a lot of their procedural care, so make sure to get EXACT prices before your first visit. No massive issues until today when we were almost charged for an exam even though I told them multiple times what we were specifically here for. Charged full price for half a nail trim and was not told beforehand that we would be charged for the full trim when I only needed the back nails done. I'm able to get the front at home by myself. Pushed meds on us for car sickness when I explained to the tech over and over that this rarely happens now and that I accidentally fed her this morning since I was overwhelmed with a lot of other things. After about 5 mentions and sharing the price he finally stopped. Neither of the people that entered the room today introduced themselves either. This whole process makes me really fearful of what care was like when they were just curbside and if my fur babies actually needed all of the medications they were prescribed, especially my cat, because none of them ever worked. Find care elsewhere. EDIT TO NOTE: I was never told by the tech that when I ONLY asked for half of her nails to be trimmed that it would cost full price. There were already two people in there, and there is no cost for using a nail trimmer. I explained thoroughly to the vet tech about 5 times that car sickness was very, very rare for Belle, and yet he still tried to tell me I needed this medication. This vet says they care, but they don't. RUN. They did re-fund me for the nail trim, but that was only because I posted about it. read more

I communicated with your office. I even came back to the office 2 hours later to help the doctor with sedation. I was not aggressive and disrespectful. I asked questions. I have the right to be upset because the sevice that I came in for was not performed. I tried to find out were the error occurred. It was your front desk. You won't admit that. Your front desk started the conversation of up charging over the phone. I assume that's why she didn't get the appointment correct. The same thing happened when I dropped my dog off for services. I didn't come for blood test, shots. Exam, or heartworm. Yet, I paid for services that you didn't even do. I asked the doctor about the teeth of my dog and she didn't have a clue. Dr. Fox is ill and did not see my dog. Your staff said she was sick with cancer. I like Dr. FOX and have never had a issue. She at least reads the chart. None of this happened on this visit. Yall, told me I should have corrected your staff when she stated what my pet was getting but yet she keeping adding other items. How would I know what the appointment stated. I knew I was never coming back once I read the reviews of yall up charging customers. I was talking to other customers and we all stated that we felt like this was happening and one stated she called back to ask questions but just paid it because she just let it go. When I told you I was canceling my payments you became angry. Yall muffled my dog with out my permission and put him in his cage with throw up. Didn't clean it until I came. If you love your pets, DO NOT take them to Apache Trail Animal Hospital! Dr. Fox used to be a wonderful vet and has been my only vet since December 2010. Initially, I loved her and referred many people to her. In the last few years I have noticed a distinct change in her practice - what was once a concerned, loving, supportive office has turned into a money-driven, disinterested, uncaring, and unsympathetic office. At one point during my years of interaction with Dr. Fox, she complimented me on how connected I was with my dog. I knew his behaviors, I knew his personality; I knew "my boy" very well. The behavior he exhibited at that time was telling me something was wrong. I took him in to Dr. Fox, she did a CBC - and Rocky had pancreatitis! If she could acknowledge back then how connected I am with my boy; why then, would she not listen to me this time? On Oct 4, 2017 my twelve-year-old dog, Rocky, went to her office with the following symptoms: bleeding from his nose, sneezing, and a temperature of 101.2. The physical exam resulted in a diagnosis of a dental abscess of his right upper canine tooth. I pleaded with her to rule out aspergillus/fungal infection, a foreign body, and nasal cancer BEFORE she started removing teeth. I told her "I see no reason to put him through dental surgery if I have to put him down because he has nasal cancer". Nasal and brain cancers are common in dogs over 9 years of age and in small Collie breeds; my dog is 12 and Border Collie mix. I knew in my gut the true diagnosis was NOT dental but Dr. Fox would not have that. She wrote in his records on Oct 4 that I asked for and wanted to wait for the results of cytology/culture BEFORE she did any dental work on my dog. She performed a nasal swab on Oct 5 but DID NOT do the fungal culture until Nov 3, when Rocky was still bleeding from his nose and now he was not eating. She did not do what I asked her to do on Oct 4, which was to rule out foreign body, aspergillus/fungal infection, and nasal cancer BEFORE she did any procedure on my dog. Instead, she pushed forward with dental surgery on October 10. In my opinion, Dr. Fox put my dog through unnecessary trauma, surgery, and torture from Oct 4, 2017 until Dec 15, 2017, when I removed him from her care. She charged me $1086.13 for treatments and drugs that were NEVER going to resolve his true issue. On December 19, I took Rocky to another vet and paid $150.00 for a 3-view skull x-ray (left side, right side, and top down) which gave his true diagnosis - NASAL CANCER! Interesting that Dr. Fox had said she was going to do nasal x-rays during the dental procedure - question - If she did nasal x-rays, how did she not see the HUGE tumor in my dog's nasal cavity? I saw it as soon as I looked at the skull x-rays the new vet took. The new vet was unable to do anything to help my boy, except help him go peacefully. My boy, Rocky, crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 2:30 pm on December 19, 2017. I will NEVER forgive Dr. Fox for what she put my boy through when a shred of care or concern plus a standard skull x-ray could have ended his suffering back in October. read more

They're a nice group of people. The vet's office is right off a main road (Haywood Lane onto Apache Trail) and its separated from surrounding businesses which is actually really good because it makes the location more private and safe. There are about 10 parking spaces, 4 or 5 of which are employees'. It's a small vet's office but they have decent hours and everyone including the administrative staff to the vet tech's to the vet's absolutely love animals. They give a discounted price to the rescue that I volunteer for and I think other rescues use them too so I know they care about animals because they help a lot of animals. Also, there are a few office cat helpers. They're very friendly to all visiting people and their pets and might come to greet you or at least look at you. Dr. Fox and Dr. Lois are really friendly and kind. And there are a few vet techs- Jason, Erica, Sara, and Haley. They're all really easy to talk to and thorough. Cindy, Cindy, and Suzanne at the front are really great about always picking up the phone and the vets are super accommodating and will see you the same day if your pet is sick. read more

My healthy 8 1/2 month old puppy died here, for no apparent reason, during a "safe and routine" spay. She went into cardiac arrest 5 minutes into surgery. Multiple people medicated her. There is a discrepancy as to when she had her pre anesthetics and a couple other things that myself and others that I know in this profession find questionable. The staff was very cold almost rude after her death, as if they weren't supposed to speak to me. I am convinced there is something very wrong here. I also know of at least one other person with a similar experience recently. I don't know his name but her lost a dachshund approximately 6-8 weeks ago. I would very much like to speak to him if anyone reading this knows who he is. I do not recommend this place. read more

The only negative experience I had with them was due to one specific employee, who no longer works with them. I called them on a Wednesday to take my dog in and they are closed on Wednesday. What kind of place closes in the middle of the week? They have two doctors there and you would think one could take off one day and one another day. I didn't like their reaction to me saying something about it and won't go back there again. I had gone here for over 3 yrs. Dr. Fox was my vet. I went in for an annual visit and was surprised when a Dr. Lewis came in. I had expected to spend a certain amount for visit and shots, and Dr. Lewis says lets check her pancreas. She didn't tell me that's a very expensive test. She forgot to check her ears, which I had asked for because my long haired dog always gets ear infections, it's in the chart people, and I had to go back. My next experience with her was after I had tried prescription food per Dr. Fox that she thought would lessen her ear infections. It immediately constipated her terribly. I called in and Dr. Fox was not there. This Dr. Lewis wanted to do X-rays. I just laughed and switched her food back and she was fine after a couple of days. There are vets like this. Money makers. If I went to work and left my dog out all day, maybe an X-ray. But she is at my side all day. I emailed Dr. Fox, this was a yr or so ago, and told her all of this, and that I wanted to see only her, Dr. Fox. She defended her a bit, which is fine. I was telling her I like her, I just didn't want to see her new partner. In September 16' my dog was really sick. I took her to Dr. Fox. She saw her twice, $800, and wanted to schedule sedation and X-rays for the next Monday. She said Dr. Lewis would assist. I told her as long as she was there, that was fine. I drove all the way there, and they said Dr. Fox would not be in until Thursday. I said "Are you sure? She told me she was coming in. "They left the room to call her and make sure. They came back and said no, it would be Thursday. On the way home I was upset. If my dog were not really ill, and a CAT not scheduled for Friday already, that would have been ok, but The sedation and X-rays were supposed to happen before the CAT scan on Friday, and I was really worried about my dog. This had been going on over a week by this time, and she had not improved. I decided to try and find a vet to see her right away. I did find someone, and they called and got her records and did the sedation and X-rays and went into the swollen aren behind her eye that morning. I called Apache the next morning and said I needed to cancel Thursday because I took her to be seen somewhere else. They said they knew already because they had called for the record. I emailed Dr. Fox and told her all of that. I just did not want just Dr. Lewis seeing my dog for something like this without Dr. Fox. I knew and trusted Dr. Fox. I mistakenly said I did not want any surprise padded bills. I meant it, but could have said it differently. Dr. Fox sent me a hateful horrible email. She said she WAS in fact coming on that Monday morning and the techs TOLD me that and I left anyway. That does not even make sense! Then she said I was petty being mad at Dr. Lewis for running routine blood work years ago, and no one there would pad a bill. I emailed her back and said I did not say ANYONE would pad a bill, just Dr. Lewis, and I also apologized and said I should not have said the word "pad". I said that I just felt she was less conservative and I only wanted to see her, Dr. Fox. Not even having been there Monday, she proceeded to dictate the visit and say the techs were taken aback by my attitude. WTH! I would laugh, but I am so shocked and hurt. I was not even upset at that time, just worried about my dog, and adamant about not wanting Dr. Lewis to be her primary caregiver. I really can't believe that having gone there for years, that they would treat me like that. I referred her to many people. I trusted her. In return she demonized me, said things happened that did not, and I guess she forgot about all of the other things that I told her about Dr. Lewis. She closed with good luck to you both. That's a goodbye right? Well, I'm sure I will be able to find another conservative vet who cares about customer service. Beware, if something happens that you do not like, they will circle the wagons and attack the customer. I am very saddened and upset. Over time I will compartmentalize this and get over it. I will also tell everyone I referred to them what happened, and also the general public. read more

I came to ATAH because my employer started offering a pet health care discount service through Pet Assure. So, I switched to come here rather than the vet that is half a mile from my home. Even after the discount offered through the pet insurance, the cost at Apache Trail was still significantly higher than if I had stayed with my regular vet for normal services such as inoculations and treating a common ear infection. So, I ended up driving 10 miles to spend more money. It was a pretty small space for two dogs with one being a Great Dane and expensive but the vet did seem to be very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I have been coming to Apache for 4 years and think that they are one of the best vets in Nashville. Dr. Fox and Dr. Lewis are very professional and thorough. I foster cats and also bring my own pets to Apache. They really care about animals and go out of their way to give your pet the best treatment. I have many serious issues with the cats that I foster and I don't think anyone could do a better job than Apache. They really take the time to answer my questions and I have had great outcomes from their treatment when I thought there was little hope. Fox and Lewis are really, really intelligent and have caught issues before they become a problem. The staff at Apache is also excellent. I have been using Apache Trail for more than 20 years and have referred at least a half dozen of my friends as well. Dr. Fox and Dr. Lewis are both highly trained and compassionate about caring for my animals. They take the time to explain any issues in detail and answer any questions I might have about my animal's care. The vet tech staff is knowledgeable and friendly, making sure I understand everything they're doing. I've had to deal with everything from torn ACL's, kidney stones, food allergies, UTI's and the dreaded "C" word (cancer) and in each case, my pets have received the best possible care. The doctors and staff are wonderful! My dog was sick and not doing well and needed to be seen immediately, and Apache Trail got me right in and worked hard to help my pup. They were sweet, compassionate, and knowledgeable from start to finish. After staying for a couple days, I'm happy to say my fur baby came home and made a full recovery!
