Initially, I was pleased with the wooden gate they put in, but 2 years later the post cement appeared to have failed, making it almost impossible to close the gate without really strong-arming it and scraping wood on wood. I called Heart about the issue last July and was told they would go look at it. I waited a couple of weeks for their plan of action but finally had to call them again. I have called and left messages but have never heard from them again. Obviously, they don't stand by their work! read more

Mike and his son are great to work with. We've had two fencing projects completed by them and couldn't be happier. They are prompt, professional, and personable. We really respect that this is a small family business full of integrity that does work to a very high standard at a perfectly fair price. Posts are set with steel posts for longevity, then nicely wrapped in wood. For our project it took two days- the first to set the posts and the 2nd to complete the install. They worked hard and are quick and were unobtrusive. We actually had a design change mid-way through the project- they thoughtfully worked with us to make it happen and bring it in on budget. We are very happy with the final project and will definitely hire them for our future fencing needs (which are many!) You won't find a better fencing company in Central Oregon. read more

When the main gate at my home broke, I wanted a small, local company to do the work, so I tried Heart based on Yelp and a neighbor's experience. Mike returned my call promptly and showed up when he said he would. He did a great job with a difficult repair to my gate and his fee was fair. I highly recommend Heart Fence! read more

Cannot begin this review without saying that my previous indirect experience with the company was excellent. Above excellent for that matter. We had a neighbor who Vern & crew did fencing for and it was nothing short of perfection. My plan was to request bids from no one other than Vern for this reason but our fencing need was different. Instead of all wood, we wanted more of a dog enclosure design with wood posts but some kind of wire all around. Vern was patient, communicative & quite respectful at the start. His bid was fairly high, but we felt confident the quality would be worth it. This is a job I so regret not watching from the moment the crew arrived. By the time we saw the work, it was too late. The wire used was too short. In fact so short in some areas that many dogs would be able to crawl right out. The wire was put on the outside of the log posts, after the bid specified finished side out. This would end up being a disagreement over what defined "finished side out." Vern showed me two different pictures - the one on his website which has the wire inside the posts & one on his phone which looked to me like the wire was also on the inside of the posts. The wire was stapled haphazardly, the rails were uneven, the metal didn't match the wire, the gate was attached crooked & bolts were not in all the way and/or not straight. Garbage was left everywhere (labels from the posts, staples, hunks of the chain link they cut & all the pieces of the posts they had cut to size.) Later we discovered some posts were not solid in the concrete & could "wiggle." Unfortunately efforts to resolve this failed, as Vern reacted in anger toward us, the customer instead of his crew and/or the company that sent the wrong length wire. Any qualified crew would have stopped the job when it was visible that the wire did not come close to touching the ground but the Heart Fence crew completed it this way. As winter came forcefully, conditions were harsh & Vern was leaving for his winter home, we agreed to wait the many months until spring for completion of the job. I hoped for a "clean slate" and to have the job fixed & completed nicely. Vern was not of the same mind. He returned with a chip on his shoulder & despite having to be there to re-do the job up to the standard he bid, he charged me extra for his gas $$ where really it would have been most appropriate to discount the job after his crew hacked it. Overall the single worst experience we had while hiring countless contractors to do work on a short sale we purchased last fall. read more
