We started last fall in the Parent and Me class and the growth I have seen from day 1 to now is just incredible. He's able to have conversations with other adults, wave and give high fives, and love being around the other kids. We bumped up to 2 days a week last January, and I feel very strongly that the older kiddos really helped my son find his voice. It's nice that we weren't locked in for the year going 1 day a week. We are able to discuss with the director how we as parents feel things are going and can change our program when we all agree it's time. The director is absolutely top notch. She's intentional with every activity she sets out for the kids, and lets the kids take the lead (within reason). She's in tune with the needs of every child, flexible, caring, and has helped me as a first-time mom relax and trust my son's timeline. It also helps that my son is also really drawn to her, and talks about her all the time! A co-op is a co-operation program where both parents and teachers are helping to guide children throughout their early developmental years. As parents, we contribute to the learning environment by fostering communication skills, gross and fine motor skills, develop social-emotional understanding and respect, and learning independence. I love how I get to stay and be there with my son. I am able to see how he grows, and I can take on duties to ensure a healthy and clean environment. I'm so excited to see how "Caterpillars" go this year because this will be the first time my son will be at school 3 days a week for 3 hours and only 1 of those days I will be with him.

The Director, Jan, immediately made me feel comfortable and I could see what a loving environment all of the staff there had created. My daughter has thrived since being there and she has loved every teacher she's had! As hard as it is dropping her off to go to work, I take solace in knowing she's well cared for and loved. Jan has always been extremely responsive to any issues that have come up (and there have not been many), resolving them quickly and professionally. I could go on with so many more lovely things about this school, but I hope this conveys my enthusiasm for this treasure in Petaluma!

However, there were also some deeply concerning practices that we couldn't overlook. One teacher told my 3-year-old that if he didn't stop crying for me, she would call me and tell me to pick him up late. I observed a teacher stepping on a child's foot to prevent a child from taking off of their shoes and screaming at them not to take her shoes off.. There were also questionable reward systems in place, like giving candy after finishing laps, which doesn't align with healthy habits for young kids. But most alarming was the use of blankets--multiple times, we observed blankets placed over children's heads, including in the infant room. Our 10-month-old had a blanket covering her entire body and face, which is extremely unsafe and against all infant sleep safety guidelines. While we saw some bright spots in the staff, ultimately, we didn't feel confident that our children were being cared for in a consistently safe and supportive environment.

The outdoor play areas were large, shaded, customized to age range and abilities, and filled with bikes, water pads, and sensory toys. Communication with the director, Kenzie, and assistant director, Rosie, was immediate, considerate and thorough. Our eldest was fully prepared for kindergarten when she graduated from TLE. She understood classroom dynamics and expectations, and she had mastered measurable skills in language, reading, math and art. Our youngest was loved and nurtured during his time at TLE, and the teachers were incredible at supporting us during potty-training and different developmental stages. There is a lot of love, care, and attention to detail in this safe, professional and fun little school. We miss it a lot!

I regularly dropped my child off with people who weren't her teachers--including kitchen staff--which is completely unacceptable. Teachers called out so often that my child was frequently left with unfamiliar caregivers, DAILY and parents were never properly informed. The environment felt chaotic every single morning--screaming children, no structure, and no sense of control. Even more concerning, when my child had issues with other kids being abusive . staff did nothing to address it. There were also serious concerns about staff behavior and overall supervision that made me question whether this is an appropriate or safe environment for children at all. I would not recommend this place to any parent. They need major changes in staffing, accountability, and basic professionalism.

My older son would come home angry and sad. He was regularly put in timeouts and had his playtime taken away for what they called "bad behavior." They even claimed he had choked another child at just three years old, which was shocking and completely out of character. He would cry and beg not to go. That's when we knew we had to make a change. From the moment we toured KinderCare, we felt a difference. The staff was welcoming, professional, and genuinely caring. They also accept 4Cs, which was a huge help. From day one, my son came home smiling. He has been happy to go every single day since. His teacher, Emily, has been especially wonderful. She's patient, kind, and really understands my strong-willed child. She works with him thoughtfully and helps him thrive in a way that feels supportive rather than punitive. She's been instrumental in helping him adjust and grow. KinderCare also recently welcomed my one-year-old, and again, the experience has been amazing. I could tell from the very first day that he had a great time with the staff and the other children. It gave me so much peace of mind to know that both my kids are happy, safe, and truly cared for. KinderCare doesn't just supervise children--they see them, understand them, and support them as individuals. I can't recommend them highly enough!
