I am calling this review ... 'Hand in knife in heart'
So after reading the other reviews for the Heart in Hand.It seems imposible to think I am talking about the same establishment!
PLEASE BARE WITH ME ON HOW DETAILED THIS REVIEW IS.It is vital in order to understand the horrendous experiance we had.
Right,so I have lived in Brighton all my life.I am pretty familar with all the bars and pubs here and never experianced this kind of hostility ever!
I was with my good work friends, about 9 of us.We chose to pop into the Heart In Hand, its known for being a traditional, cosy little boozer.
I myself brought a bottle of red for me and my friend to share. My other friends were buying a good couple of rounds throughout the evening,at a cost of approximatly £15-£20 a round.
.I hadnt been too well and after one glass of wine,i thought I'd stick to my small discreet bottle of water I had in my handbag.Without going into too much detail of my illness,it requires me to drinks lots of water.
We must of been there for 2 hours when a man came over to me..(i had no idea who he was!)..snatched my water bottle out of my hand.It became apparent he was the landlord. He stood over me and verbally began to lay into me,swearing and..accusing me of not buying ANYTHING in his establishment.Claiming he had been 'watching me the whole night' His whole manner was aggressive and intimidating.I got splashed with spit as he was talking to me.
I carefully explained this was simply not true,to go ask his colleages, to which i was told i was 'lying'.I also pointed out that I was not very well and needed to drink water.
He rudely asked me 'why i had come out if i was ill'..something which is none of his business. In the end to get him to leave me alone,I felt no other choice to go into peronal information about why i was having to drink the water. He shook his head in disqust and slammed my bottle back onto the table.
My friends boyfriend calmly aked him what exactly was the problem as they had all been buying drinks the whole night. The landlord then stood over him and shook his shoulders and told him to mind his own business.
Well as you can imaginge, this totally ruined the night.
None of us wanted to stay as the landlord then persisted to stare us out from across the room.My friends felt so angry and mistreated they decided to confront him.
We took our untouched drinks to the bar and told him we no longer wanted his drinks. We calmly asked him again, what the problem was. As soon as we did this, we were met by foul language and aggression.
The landlord claimed that NONE of us had brought many drinks that night.
He then started to grab 2 of my friends on the shoulders, both female.
He tried his best to provoke my male friends. So much to the point that at one point, my female friend had to stand inbetween her boyfriend and the landlord!..shocking.
We got no support or back up from the bar staff who looked scared and intimidated by the commotion.Clearly they didnt want to loose there heads!
So we got kicked out!..By the bar staff who claimed it was a 'missunderstanding'..he nodded his head and agreed that it was not fair what had happend. But he was the bar man who served me...he had said nothing at the time.
Not only was this toatally un proffesional of the landlord, his argument was UNTRUE AND UNFAIR.It was vile treatment and it really shook us all up.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK to that pub.
