This means a complete loss for me at this conference. My only recourse was to start calling Audiologists in the area and hoping for a solution. I had to have my conference roommate make the call as I can't hear anything on the phone. "Come on in anytime and we'll get you taken care of." What a relief! I was there within an hour with dead Oticons. The good doctor there (sorry I didn't catch your name, I'm deaf, haha!) had me test one in a charger. It worked! He's lending it to me for the time I'm here. Who does that without charging an arm and a leg? I was blown away by the generosity! The good folks here genuinely want to help. They saved my week at the conference in seminars and hanging out with old colleagues. My hearing is so bad I thought about just hanging it up and getting a return flight home. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and trust shown to a complete stranger. You didn't have to do this but you chose to help. WOW!

She gently takes a tool and takes out the excess ear wax. The last time I had wax removed, the doctor used a water bulb that he squirted into my ear, and it was so uncomfortable because I got dizzy from the water filling my one ear. Anyway, this way by Dr. Solat rocks!! Her patient care is fantastic and kind, and it was so easy to schedule for her office because you do it all online! I highly recommend Dr. Mandi Solat! They also offer hearing aids, hearing tests, and other hearing needs because she is an audiologist! Located in Lakewood, but I came from Westminster, not a bad drive.

Now for the star of the show, David Ives, audiologist/director of Patient care!!! He is truly an expert on hearing and treating issues with the auditory and vestibular areas of the ear. Over the years, I've learned the nuances about why it doesn't help to just crank up a hearing aid, and the more subtle benefits of consistent use. Even when I have been a less than ideal patient, they've consistently encouraged me to get the most out of my hearing aids without being overbearing. I've always appreciated the honesty of these discussions. Education extends to the items that they have recommended against too. I have decided not to purchase things like stethoscopes and rechargeable batteries because they were able describe to me how these products weren't practical enough for the real world yet. When something was ready, however, they reached out to me to let me know. For 6 years, they did not push any of the incremental upgrades to my first set of hearing aids. When a big breakthrough did happen, I was introduced to a new product in a demo. Moreover, they said "don't believe me here in the demo." They had me take the hearing aids for a few weeks, use them at home, at work, and in my real life. The upgrade sold itself, and I couldn't be happier about the improvement in my quality of life. I really feel like I'm getting healthcare that is customized to me. Because of my interest in technology, I was exposed to all the iOS hearing aid features that my newest hearing aids can access in terms of customizations, location services, and usage data. This gives Beltone information that they can then use to recommend adjustments. As far as I know, I'm the only patient they've had this discussion with because the vast majority of hearing aid users are not interested in working with this technology. We romanticize a notion of healthcare when people made house calls, took time, and really understood the patient. I never thought it would be possible to feel that way today, but I'm sure it doesn't get any closer than this.
