My 86yo mother had cataract surgery 5 years ago. Ever since that time, she has experienced double…read morevision. This double vision has cause issues with walking, balance and ultimately, has cause several falls. Many eye doctors have attempted to correct this through prisms in her glasses Rx. She has dementia that has impacted her ability to verbalize improvements during an eye exam, ultimately leading to a failure in correction. As one could imagine, this makes it very challenging for a doctor to figure out the needed correction for double vision and the repeated attempts by the lab to grind the right Rx. Enter Dr. Sherri Eakins, with Hummel Eye Associates. Dr. Eakins took the extra time to figure out how to effectively communicate with my mother to get clear signals of "good" or "worse" during the eye exam. It probably took twice as long to complete the exam, but the payoff was a beautiful thing to behold. At the moment that Dr. Eakins figured out the correct prism combination, my mother sang out the word "STOP!". Dr Eakins had done what no other Dr was able to accomplish. My mother started crying tears of joy. I can't imagine a better example of why anyone should consider Hummel Eye Associates as their choice for eye care. Although I live out of state, I'm scheduling my next Eye appointment with Dr. Eakins. Lastly, the support staff and technicians were polite, professional and pleasant.
