They have a huge range of stock, including fresh organic fruit and vegetables, cold goods and supplements in a surprisingly large store. The assistants are friendly and knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you might have. I go in for their supply of 'Lentilicious,' one of the many locally produced products for healthy living they have in store and their organic fair trade coffee. Even if you aren't sold on organic foods, its a great place to find healthy, nutritious food stuff.

This mainly due to the size allowing them to really fill up the place with a wide variety of goods. I am used to health food stores being the size of boutiques, not much larger than and average sized bedroom kind of thing. Surprisingly, 'Mrs Flannery's' is the size of a small IGA or your local food store. It has a few aisles like the ones you find at the Supermarket! Here you will find, organic cereal, wide range of nuts and whole grains as well as natural household and beauty products. I am fond of their peanut butter which is literally grounded peanuts with no additives, preservatives and flavourings. Of course shopping here is not as cheap as the local supermarket but you feel so good about yourself for being so healthy after shopping here. I obviously would not do my entire groceries here as that would burn a hole in my pocket though. 'Mrs Flannery's' is a must for anyone into natural health and organic foods who lives around the 'Taringa' area. You will not be disappointed by the range this place has to offer.

The produce is cheaper than the supermarkets.

Mind you we all love food so this was the perfect spot. There were so many tents lined up and so many different vendors to choose from. It was like super farmer's market compared to what I'm used to at home in Hawai'i. We walked around for bit just eyeing out all the different food. There is definitely something for everyone here. Also, a great place to buy produce and meat. Probably for a cheaper price than you would find in a grocery store. Because we couldn't decide on one food stand we decided to get food from multiple ones lol. We got out drinks from a tea stand. We got liliko'i and mango teas. There was one stand where they were selling breaky sammies for $5 and they were huge! We got one of those and a gian samosa from an Indian vendor. The samosa was almost the size of my hand. Ain't gonna find any samosas like that in Hawai'i unless you make em yourself. We also got pork belly shish kabobs. It was a great experience and so much fun too! If you're ever in Brisbane I recommend going to Rocklea markets. Everyone just seemed so happy and excited even though it was a bit rainy that day. It was also a good place for families. My boyfriend and I will be back next time we're in Brisbane again.

You would think that people employed to work at a store that promotes healthy, principled, community minded living would reflect some of these characters- not at the Green Grocer. I distinctly get the feeling that I'm burdening them when I walk in to purchase something from their store. "Oh I'm sorry, you interrupted my doing nothing. How dare you." HOW DARE YOU, Green Grocer girl. How dare YOU. It is a good store to get things like moon calendars, healthy snacks, natural supplements, seeds, remedies and cure alls. The products are great. The Green Grocer is unique in that it's one of the only stores of it's kind in the area. The Green Grocer is actually a great shop, it's just a shame that it's staffed with people who don't seem to give a damn about anything.

However, I struggle to see how the place stays alive. It has a shabby, unkempt feel to it and there's not a time I've been in there when I've received overly friendly service. The vibe is that they couldn't care less whether customers came in or not. This said, they stock a small but good range of organic dairy products, including the lovely Barambah; pre-packaged Sol Bread; a good range of herbal and organic tea; plus quite a few things in bulk bins. All in all, a well-located store that could do with a bit of fresh life brought to it. Note: $5 EFTPOS minimum.

Awkward. This super chic grocer is up there for me. Head straight to the aisles of jams, chutneys, and other such condiments. Packaging branding heaven. I used to live across the road from James Street Market (and still visit frequently) and yes, it is as dangerous on your back pocket as you might imagine but let's break it down. For a slightly higher price you're selecting top quality produce, specialty cheeses, sweets and other accoutrements. You've got access to a patisserie (French Twist), a florist, a butcher, a fishery and sushi bar. The produce is always fresh and the ability to walk out empty handed? Extremely difficult. Case in point: a friend and I were recently on the hunt for salted caramel for a cheesecake. Sure, we could have made it from scratch (and normally we might have) but to put it bluntly "Ain't no body got time for that!". We'd hunted a few different specialty stores we thought would be on the money but it was James Street Markets that came through with the goods. The staff member that looked after us found it on the shelf with such air and grace. There was no trouble for her to point us in the direction of the jar that held our salted caramel dreams.

You can usually pick up a few unusual mushroom types at Fine Fruit On James - enokis, King Oysters, wood-ear mushrooms but Asian supermarkets usually cover the same range. I repeat, it is their cheeses which stand out against their competitors. They have everything from camembert in the Adelaide Hills to Spanish manchengo. I became a goats' cheese convert after sampling their 'Lingot Chevre De Pelussin'. They also stock a decent range of gourmet deli products such as ice creams, pates, dips, oils, sauces and vinaigrettes. For an indulgent grocery shopping experience, Fine Fruit On James is the place to go.

Sun & Earth Organics is a great place to start if you are in need of some healthy options and inspiration in your life. The store on Brunswick Street houses everything you could imagine in terms of healthy lifestyle and dietary choices. From dried fruits and fair trade coffee beans, to pour-your-own organic laundry liquid. Sun & Earth really does remind you of how many great, healthy alternatives there are. With the busy lifestyle I lead, I often get caught up eating on the run and not really making the best choices about my diet. I think I will incorporate Sun & Earth into my weekly grocery shopping routine to make the health kick habitual. Believe me, the produce in Sun & Earth is enough to make your mouth water as much as any burger shop walk-by. If you are a health nut, in need of a boost in your dietary health, or simply wanting to embrace a more organic lifestyle, then I highly recommend you pop into Sun & Earth Organics.
