They have a huge range of stock, including fresh organic fruit and vegetables, cold goods and supplements in a surprisingly large store. The assistants are friendly and knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you might have. I go in for their supply of 'Lentilicious,' one of the many locally produced products for healthy living they have in store and their organic fair trade coffee. Even if you aren't sold on organic foods, its a great place to find healthy, nutritious food stuff.

This mainly due to the size allowing them to really fill up the place with a wide variety of goods. I am used to health food stores being the size of boutiques, not much larger than and average sized bedroom kind of thing. Surprisingly, 'Mrs Flannery's' is the size of a small IGA or your local food store. It has a few aisles like the ones you find at the Supermarket! Here you will find, organic cereal, wide range of nuts and whole grains as well as natural household and beauty products. I am fond of their peanut butter which is literally grounded peanuts with no additives, preservatives and flavourings. Of course shopping here is not as cheap as the local supermarket but you feel so good about yourself for being so healthy after shopping here. I obviously would not do my entire groceries here as that would burn a hole in my pocket though. 'Mrs Flannery's' is a must for anyone into natural health and organic foods who lives around the 'Taringa' area. You will not be disappointed by the range this place has to offer.

Smug. Trolley. This…read moreis a spot of the smuggest of your health food desires to emerge and be openly out and proud, and while it may be a smaller store for a Flannery's, there's still plenty to feel virtuous about. They stock the general range of health foods, bulk-buy grains, a small fresh produce and deli section and plenty of vitamins and such. The staff on the day that I visited weren't as hands on as other Flannery's I've visited and it seems, as I was, to be a shop to go when you know what you want already. Still, there's enough to keep you wandering to stray from your shopping list. I have two sachets of coconut butter to prove it. TL; DR? An amply stocked local health food store. Great for specifically wanted items and often worth calling before you visit to ensure it's in stock.

Organic stores are not always easy to find and the health food section of most suburban…read moresupermarkets is pretty pitiful, so Mrs Flannery's Natural Grocer chain of stores in Brisbane is a blessing. The stores are almost supermarket sized, and the Chermside store is no different. It stocks a huge range of products including coffee, nuts, grains, flours, dairy, frozen meals, skin care, vitamins and household products. They stock a full range of environmentally and allergy friendly cleaning products and household products. Whatever your allergy, there are products to suit your needs. Gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, vegan, organic - they have it all. A huge range of products can be purchased by weight, so you can buy as much or as little as you need in brown paper bags, making it environmentally friendly too. There is every kind of flour imaginable - regular, wholemeal, spelt, maize, chickpea. They stock 3 types of Quinoa, which is my favourite grain substitute at the moment. I always stock up on the soy crisps, Japanese rice crackers and dried vegetable crisps. I also recommend filling up a brown bag full of French Vanilla Granola clusters. It's not the cheapest store, and I wouldn't do a full grocery shop there, but it's great for those speciality items. And if you or your family suffer from allergies or food intolerance, this store will make your life a lot easier.

It's conveniently located next to The Single Guys which means it's the perfect combo for a morning coffee and stop to pick up some herbs, a ready made meal for your Parisienne Housewife dinner or to order a cake. On the morning I arrived the store had a delicious scent of cinnamon, cardamom and an array of Christmasy-spices. They'd been baking Christmas cookies and cakes. If there's a psychology of scent these guys have it down and it leaves you wanting to buy whatever they're cooking. And wait there's more: Julia's also have a small selection of bulk flours, oats and grains for purchase. A definite tick of approval in Brisbane's inner-West!

Turns out, Coorparoo is pretty well equipped. And if I recall rightly, West End doesn't have an organic butcher. Watch out--Coorparoo could be the next big thing! Allsop and England is a fantastic little butcher and everything in there is organic except the cheerios. Most of their meat comes from an organic grower in Roma and their chicken from an organic free range grower in Murgon, so you can be sure that your meat isn't travelling too far. They not only sell all your regular cuts of meat beef, lamb and pork, but also do a few things out of the ordinary like goat and duck. We bought a whole duck from there the other day and roasted it--amazing. The prices are reasonable, in fact really reasonable considering it's organic. I'd say it's definitely cheaper than buying Coles organic meat, for example. With so few organic butchers around, I would make a special trip just to go to this butcher. In fact, I'd like to make a habit of it.

ORGANIC BUTCHER. What more possibly needs to be said?…read more Eating organic meat has always been far more important to me than eating organic veggies (if you can do both, you get pats on the back). Luckily, today, I'm going to save you from a long winded, morally righteous rant about it. I'll keep to the basics which are said as simply as this: ORGANIC MEAT IS GOOD FOR YOU, THE ANIMAL, AND THE FARMER. SHOP HERE. ALL THE TIME. START TODAY. Allsop and England also like to keep it local too. You'll see the signs proudly exclaiming that they like "to keep it Australian". Most of their meat comes less than 10 hours driving distance away in Queensland, and so, in the grand scheme of things, these guys are really keeping it close to home. They don't really do 'fancy' here. They've got all your classic cuts, and meats, but nothing too over the top or flashy. They don't need to draw you in using tricks. They're local, they're organic. What more do you want? I am ecstatic to report that the prices are no more expensive than what you'd find at Coles or any other non organic butcher. Are you reading this properly? At Allsop and England, you essentially pay less to eat better meat. I hope I've made my point clear. This is your new butcher. It's good for you, your pocket, for the butcher, for the animals, for the farmers that supply the butcher. Feel proud to purchase your flesh goods here.
