I am submitting a review regarding my hospitalization at Covington Hospital and ongoing concerns…read moreabout pain management and communication during the sickle cell crisis in which I was admitted for. Dr. David Siebert's made very frustrating and neglectful statements about my medication adherence and his refusal to initiate around-the-clock IV opioid management despite my documented history, I would like to document further inconsistencies and communication failures affecting my care. During my first night at Covington, Dr. Michael Joyce informed my father and me that PCA pumps were not used at this facility and suggested that I would have better luck receiving sickle cell pain management at Fred Hutch. This recommendation was confusing and distressing. I reside in Lakewood, and Fred Hutch is located in Seattle. Additionally, Fred Hutch is a specialty cancer and hematology center and not an emergency hospital capable of managing acute vaso-occlusive crises. The suggestion conveyed a lack of viable local care options and contributed to my distress. Over the course of four days in severe sickle cell pain, I was later told that more effective pain management could have been initiated earlier in my stay, which was extremely frustrating to learn given the severity of my symptoms. Following comments made by Dr. Siebert regarding my pain management plan, I experienced an intense panic attack triggered by distress and perceived lack of appropriate care. A Code Grey was called in response to my emotional distress. Shortly afterward, Dr. Siebert returned and asked whether I had ever been on a PCA pump before. This raised several concerns: * We had previously informed care staff that PCA therapy has historically been the primary method used to control my severe vaso-occlusive crisis pain. * This information is documented in my medical record. * The question suggested that my documented care history may not have been reviewed. * It also appeared to contradict the earlier statement that PCA therapy was not available at this facility. These inconsistencies in communication, lack of continuity, and apparent failure to review documented treatment history have contributed to unmanaged pain, heightened anxiety, and significant emotional distress during an already vulnerable medical crisis. I am requesting review of: * continuity and coordination of communication between providers * review and utilization of documented pain management protocols * clarification of PCA availability and alternative pain control strategies * patient-centered communication practices during high-distress situations * care escalation protocols for patients with severe sickle cell pain My goal is to ensure that care is coordinated, evidence-based, and communicated clearly so that future patients do not experience similar distress during crisis treatment.

I have been a MultiCare patient for 5 years, always bringing my children here too. I have never…read moreonce complained or requested controlled medications--until this appointment, my very first with Dr. Show (my regular PCP was unavailable). I disclosed a traumatic experience for the first time and, while crying and extremely vulnerable, asked for short-term help with severe anxiety. Dr. Show responded by sighing audibly with an "ugh", as if my distress and request were a burden or annoyance. She shrugged off my concerns, dismissed why my current medication wasn't helping, and then bizarrely pivoted to complaining about how difficult it is to find a psychiatrist for her own daughter--turning my traumatic disclosure into a comment about her personal frustrations. I felt blatantly treated like a drug seeker despite my long, clean history. She offered zero empathy, zero alternatives, and zero support beyond suggesting I "take an extra pill" of the medication I am currently taking (which I'd already said wasn't sufficient). The entire visit left me re-traumatized and far worse than when I arrived. No one from the clinic even bothered to check on me afterward. This was not poor bedside manner--this was a complete failure of compassion and professional boundaries. I have filed formal complaints with MultiCare leadership, the Joint Commission, and the Washington Medical Commission. If you need genuine, trauma-informed care for anxiety or mental health, avoid Dr. Michelle Show at all costs.

The buildings are older, and because it's a large hospital, it can get quite busy. There are plenty…read moreof parking areas, but drivers often weave through the lots quickly and somewhat carelessly, which can make arriving for appointments a bit stressful. The garage parking could really benefit from clearly painted lane markings to help prevent near-misses and accidents. As for the staff, hospitals can be hit or miss, but I've only ever encountered kind and professional doctors and nurses here. Whether I'm attending my own appointments or supporting someone else, the waiting areas are generally bright, comfortable, and equipped with water dispensers and TVs. Wait times can be long, so it's a good idea to bring something to help pass the time. While signs ask patients not to use phones during appointments, staff don't seem to mind if you use your device while waiting.

I haven't even been seen here yet, and I am already dreading it. I'm about to have my ND send my…read morereferral to Seattle and will just have to stomach the drive. The receptionist who handles the phone and faxes is abhorrent. Imagine being the front line for a place that is supposed to issue care and being a short-mouthed drone devoid of any emotion. I've called to verify my referral for cardiology so that I may get answers in what is going on with my heart, but she keeps claiming that no fax has come through. She said that yesterday, but in fact the fax had come through because they sent a response back to my ND needing clarification on something. She responded back at 3pm yesterday. When I called to confirm today, she immediately said no, I informed her I verified with my ND and mentioned the back and forth yesterday and she still said she didn't have them, that she manned all the faxes so she would know. Firstly, lose the attitude. Maybe you made a mistake, you're not going to take 3 seconds to double check? SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED and work in a job where she doesn't deal with people. **Editing to add: Two stars given back for the OTHER receptionist I talked to that helped me to figure out what actually happened with the fax, rather than just write me off. They need more of you.

While this facility is our local hospital, the patient experience has been unsatisfactory…read more Specifically, the initial diagnosis for our daughter was incorrect, requiring us to seek further care at Children's Hospital. Furthermore, we encountered significant deficiencies in the hospital's operational systems, which appear to be outdated. This extended to the administrative processes, where a billing dispute resulted in the immediate referral of the account to a collections agency without adequate resolution attempts. Given these experiences, we would not recommend their medical facilities in the future.

But, a front desk staff can't make up for medical incompetence. I went to the clinic to get my kiddo his Covid booster. Sea Mar is one of the only groups in my area who have the vaccine version he needed. After filing out a bunch of paperwork and then sitting for an hour the nurse looked over his paperwork and told us to go home. When I showed her his records that he was due since it had been a year and a half she said no, the state wouldn't approve it and go home. When I explained to her that the 2023/2024 vaccine is not the same as the 2022/2023 vaccine she shrugged and said it's good enough and go home. So, I called another Sea Mar location who told me, nope she was wrong and that shouldn't have happened and I could drive to another city and wait in line again if I wanted. Well, by that time all the other clinics were out of the vaccine. I lost a day of work and watched her try to refuse another patient for reasons unknown only to have the front desk man explain that no, she needed to treat that person and finally she agreed. Would never recommend receiving care at this location! I will however leave a glowing recommendation for the Des Moines and Federal Way clinics shortly and I do recommend anyone to get treatment there.
